| and now for the weekend/monthlong update! i should probably get a cooler looking xanga at some point..maybe one of you supercool day students/new jersey residents can give me some pointers seeing as i'm..formatting challenged. or just lazy. aaaanywhoo..it's been a feast or famine kind of month...2.5 weeks of busyness...2.5 weeks of not so busyness and taking walks or just lounging around in my room pretending to work on my apps. thank god the college visiting marathon is over. we saw four schools at distances of 1-5 hours away in the span of about a week and a half and 'twas just a weee bit intense. at least i've acquired more than a passing familiarity with the backseat of my dad's car. which is...worth something i suppose.
today was a cheery exercise in randomness...we went for a picnic in this state park near my house and played scrabble..of which i emerged victorious somehow using three and four letter words. the jury's still out on how this is possible. then the flick city of god was watched...a bloody brazilian coming-of-age tale which i'd recommend if you're in the mood for a quirky twist on a familiar theme. the evening was then terminated with a trip to the local bowling alley at 10 pm for lack of anything better to do. we met two guys from NJIT who challenged us to a bowling duel. one sounded like a pakistani taxi driver and the other looked like vaguely like silent bob. quite a pair and their bowling skills were considerably sharper than ours. fun nevertheless in the way that only the monday night before school starts can be. the day before we hit up one of those old fashioned town carnivals, complete with the spinning rides which go on for far too long. honeslty do the dudes who run them LIKE cleaning up vomit? but it has been forever since i've eaten cotton candy and made fun of middle schoolers so i enjoyed it. and before THAT we went to the US open and saw lots of strong looking people hitting balls really fast. not to mention serena william's latest whore-suit. i wonder if she's got a promotional contract with the local brothel.
tomorrow it's off to the big city for one last hurrah with the credit card and the public transportation system and then i'll commence with my packing which is as pleasant as getting your wisdom teeth pulled. which is to say, not very.
was this entry disjointed enough for you? please respond on a 1-6 scale with 1 being 'did you write this in english' and 6 being 'you might as well submit this to the courant.' 'night all~ | | |
| hooray for caracas and warm weather. and cousins who have computers so i won´t be out of touch with civilization for too long. it´s been fabulous so far ... lots of fiestas, staying out late and the food is FANTASTIC. my spanish is...asi asi as they say, but it´s getting better. hopefully in another week or so it´ll be up to par. right now it´s a bit frustrating to interact with people, seeing as i feel like i have the vocabulary and communication skills of a third grader. ah well. i´ve started to work at a smallish version of fedex, sorting mail, sending packages, making photocopies etc. it´s fairly easy work but at least it pays well and gives me something to do in the mornings. shopping tomorrow...gotta love the currency exchange thing. i got a manicure and pedicure the other day for the equivalent of 7 bucks. SEVEN. i´d move here or something except for the minor detail that you can´t really visit most of the city without having to worry about being assaulted. ah well. maybe one day. | | |
| ahhh sleepiness - but it's that weird kind where you know you really WANT to sleep but somehow it just wont come. so you figure that if you stay up doing something that tires your eyes even more, maybe eventually you'll just drop off. it's been an awesome summer so far - great to see everyone (and some of you multiple times - i'm not sick of y'all i swear!) and movies and driving and all those other good things that come with being seventeen at long last. ah. eighteen can only be better. <if you are already, can you attest to that? or am i totally off?> i'll be away till august 1st, trying my hardest to return home un-mugged and un-stabbed so if you want to see how i'm progressing, feel free to email me at lblas@andover.edu. or lenabar1502000@yahoo.com, whichever you prefer. but do, because emails are nice. i'll write back too! i'm just not cool enough to not answer my mail. maybe one day i'll get there. doubtful. and everyone go see spidey II b/c it's tres good! but make sure you go pee first. or trouble awaits. anywhooo hope everyone has a peachy fourth of joo-ly. let me know if you want a postcard or other paraphenalia. no more ak-47s tho please. there's only so much one can smuggle. :) | | |
| hmm...i should probably make my xanga a bit more..visually stimulating shall we say. it's kind of dull compared to everyone else's and their high-teched-ness. perhaps the next time i've got absolutely nothing better to do - hell, it takes enough effort just to write in this thing, let alone make it look nice. anyway. life - well, life's pretty good. today was on the quiet side - i basically sat around and painted all day, which was fine, i mean you can't go out every day or your mother will yell at you and tell you you're not paying her enough attention. how's that for a role reversal? <complete b.s. by the way - i'm so devoted, i don't know who she's kidding...> then we watched some of the dvds we got my dad for father's day <which, appropriately enough, also happen to be some of my faves :) > and then i went for a run. at 11.15. i must say i love running at night - at least i feel like i'm going faster. that or i just cant' see where i'm going so...i don't know. that makes it more mysterious or something. like a religious experience. really. if you don't live in one of those places where muggers and rapists abound, definitely try it sometime. otherwise stick to the daylight hours. wouldn't want to lose you. well, at least not that way. anywhoo...sorry i don't have any nifty surveys or other ways for y'all to procrastinate - not that you'd need to since it's summer..mmm. well until later ~ | | |

ahoy all you devoted xanga readers. i can't believe i've been home all of a week. this whole "time is relative" thing is surprisingly true. i'd say it's been a productive return tho, albeit my parents wasted no time hounding me about that thing that starts with a c and ends with an ollege. well. who can blame them. they do after all, live vicariously through me. even if they're the ones who wander off to south america and party for weeks at a time. bah. no resentment there.
can i just say how wonderful it is to have one's license? yes yes this is old news to most but i can't get over how i can just LEAVE for hours at a time and do whatever the hell i want. well. as long as i still have gas that is. which is increasingly hard to come by in inexpensive quantities. bah again. way to impede my newfound freedom OPEC. no points. none at all.
it's also wonderful to have plans - and hopefully a job, within the next few days. hooray for dairy queen. being home has such potential to just..blow, frankly, but so far it's passing quite satisfactorily. i went for a long walk in this park like half an hour from my house. i've lived here for 17 years and i'd never been there before. i feel that way about a lot of my town - i guess since i never went to school in the area i never really discovered any of it, other than the shoprite and a restaurant or three. or maybe i'm just making excuses and i was just a lame i-have-no-life middle schooler who liked to sit at home and play civ three for hours on end. not like i do that NOW of course... ahh anyway, was i missing out. after the supersaturation of people you have at PA it's' been awesome to just sit, listen to all those nice cliche nature sounds. and think about things not orientend around one's future but rather, one's past. or preferrably just the present, but that happens so rarely. well before i get too sentimentally pensive i'll go read about a bloody war or two. that always helps to harden one's heart/ shut you up for an hour. hope summer's been what everyone was looking forward to ~
(and xina, if you see this, cheer up! school's not the be all end all of anything. you can always come waitress with me in nebraska! and you definitely don't make my top 25 terrible persons list. which is saying something. really.)
'night all. | | |
