Dying of Embarrassment

I wrote this the other day as I watched these events unfold in someone right in front of me.  It was so human.

Strange how embarrassment
Can so quickly change
Into pure hatred
In not even a day

It's not all roses
On this flowered hill of shame
It's all dying weeds
Now there's a dying will to claim
Mistakes or sins made in secret
Now they're covered with shame

But eventually those secrets
Are secrets no more
As shame becomes hatred
And the dying will is exposed

As the light surrounds
The daylight drowns out
The dark secrets die out
They are no more

I may finish this another way or change it one day, but this is it for now.

xanga time

hey y'all,

i've missed xanga-ing.  it's not that i didn't want to keep everyone up to date.  it's just that i haven't found an opportunity in so long.  so here goes:

back at the beginning of january, i got a new apartment and a new job all within 3 days of each other.  that was quite a weekend let me tell you.  a bit nerve-wracking but well worth it.  i love both my new apt and my new job.  i am working at the corporate headquarters for a major communications company.

when i was hired, i was a "customer service representative 2" which meant i was one notch above a regular csr.  well my entire team got a promotion and now i am an "analyst 1" which means i am like a behind-the-scenes supervisor type person (i analyze call center data to make decisions on what the call center reps should be doing at any given point in a day).  my new position is part of the tactical operations team.  on friday we had a nationwide "department celebration" (via conference call) in which the new changes in the department were announced and i am very pleased to say that i am the only new hire to get a promotion.  God is soooooooo GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the spring semester of 2008, i have been able to help out the ULM chi alpha group here and there.  not much, just meeting some new students and leading a couple Bible study discussions.  having a full-time job and doing XA on the side is really different from what i am used to.  in february, we went to lafayette for the annual statewide leadership summit.  it was the first time ULM students have gone to it.  pretty cool.

there are more exciting things on the way that i can't wait to xanga about.  and as of next week, i will have internet access hooked up at my apt and i will be able to xanga a lot more often!!

west monroe rebel football- on TV!

so apparently there is now a show on espn about my high school's football team.  there is no other important thing in the lives of west monroe high school football fans than their games (unfortunately not even academics).  well maybe lsu football... but it ranks nowhere nearly as high on their list.  ask a wm rebels football fan if there is a university around here.  they don't care.  it's all about high school football.

everyone- small kids to senior adults, goes to west monroe football games on friday night (except for weirdos like me who could care less about the sport as a whole).  nobody goes to ulm games.  this town is football crazed.  it is scary.  here's proof:  http://youtube.com/watch?v=RMRGVKVdie4.  my brother is watching Varsity, Inc. right now on espn and he never even went to west monroe high.

when i went to college, the ONLY people who had heard of my hometown were football fans.  mostly from rival high schools who got beat by the rebels.  the only students in my high school who had heard of the art club, were in the art club (that goes for any other group on campus besides the football team).  but EVERYONE knew who the football players were.  the only reason anyone was in the band was because they got some small portion of the attention given to the football team.  but mostly the fans went to the concession stand and the bathroom instead.  the only reason the fans put up with the cheerleaders is because of the football team.  but most assuredly, they would rather not see the cheerleaders again- it distracts focus from the game.

as if the rebel football players needed anything else to make their heads swell- they are now on national TV!

i'd like to see some statistics on what happens to the rebel football players later in life.  (Proverbs 16:18).

English speakers with accents

For those of you who know someone learning the English language...
For those of you who enjoy linguistics...
For those of you who enjoy picking on me because of my accent...

My aunt found this really cool website the other night and I just had to share it with y'all.  http://accent.gmu.edu/browse_language.php?function=find&language=english

I found this fascinating, especially because I love to meet people from other cultures.  I am such a sucker for accents.  If you want to hear what I listen to on a daily basis (in some cases much more severe), listen to

english83, female, winnfield, louisiana, usa.    (note:  meter winsdee)

Now that you've heard this, you have to take back all those things you said about my accent.
