i'm on a 1 and a half day excursion to Athens. currently, i'm sitting in the computer lab in Gordy Hall, trying to find a professor who said she would write a letter of recommendation for me. only i can't find the letter and she isn't anywhere. not in her office, at home, and i don't have a cell phone number for her. so i'm just waiting. patiently (kind of). i don't actually mind waiting, it's the parking meters that i hate. and i'm out of change. so i have about 15 more minutes until i have to go park somewhere else and buy something so i can get change.

at least my friends have been kind to me on my little visit. i haven't had to buy any food since they keep cooking me meals. that's nice.

well it's been awhile. my first quarter of teaching has come and gone. the grades are final and i think it went pretty well overall. i don't think anyone hates linguistics, so that's good. also, grad school is a lot easier than undergrad. seriously-- exams were taken orally and in a circle. actually, a lot of class time was spent in a circle-- people felt better without the sharp lines of rows. we had a lot of class parties as well. nice.

i am now on my forever long winter break, which is super because i haven't had a break for awhile and i was about to go insane. this is supposed to be my time to study and decide what to do with the rest of my life. i haven't been studying that often and i'm drawing a blank on future plans. any suggestions?

our church is performing a musical version of It's a Wonderful Life. i am in the orchestra. i am playing the triangle. no joke.

so i'm a teacher now. today in class two people misidentified me and called me a professor. haha. good stuff. i'm teaching the introduction to linguistics class here (one of them) and spreading the joy of linguistics through the university. soon people will be amazed by fricatives and transformational grammar!

other than that, i'm trying to pick up some spanish. i can't roll my r's so people have been laughing a lot. i also can't spell anything in spanish. but today over lunch i learned how to say, "the banana is delicious" and "the orange is juicy" so thank you julian!

sometimes i hate the internet. i spent too long shopping online because i had a free coupon that was only good for the month of august. when i clicked checkout, it was 11:56, but it said that the offer had already expired. it was still august! i want my free things! technically, it's not the internet's fault, but rather my own for being indecisive and wasting time. oh well...

i've decided to take up the bagpipes again.
