Happy Earth Day!
Another year has gone by.... what are you doing to reduce your carbon footprint on our planet?
Since having children, we have focused a lot more on setting examples for them in reducing, reusing and recycling.
We do our best to by organic (my husband loves to shop at the local farmers market) and we grow our own garden each year with produce that we use a lot of. Zane is really into it this year, having fun planting seeds, watering them and watching them grow! Just last night we picked the first of our chives to use in our dinner! Zada just likes to play in the dirt and eat it.
We recycle everything that we can. We have a sperate container in our kitchen to place the recyclable items in it (AKA zada's other toy box) We have to be very careful since she is quick and loves to snag the plastic containers out of it and play with them.
Reuse... that is our weakness.... its hard to get into the mind set to reuse on the scale of buying second hand, passing things down, but we are getting better. When we do buy new its in our mind set to keep our purchase for many years verses repurchasing new furniture/ household items etc every year or two.
One of the biggest differences in our lives was the switch 3 years ago to all natural/ organic soaps. A HUGE difference in how our bodies feel. We are not infecting our bodies with chemicals to wash our bodies, hair or lotions to protect our skin from the Sun or moisturize it. We also use about 80% all natural cleaners on our home.
We are not perfect. Life with children and working full time is HARD and we do take easy ways outs. One regret I have is that we didn't attempt to cloth diaper any of our children and took the easy way out to diaper them.
What can you commit to this year to help reduce your carbon footprint on our beautiful planet???
The average footprint for people in United States is 20.4 tonnes.
The average for the industrial nations is about 11 tonnes. The average worldwide carbon footprint is about 4 tonnes. To combat climate change the worldwide average needs to reduce to 2 tonnes.Mine was 14.093 tonnes
