Against Cops

3rd Jan, 07

Kowloon Bay

LUFC     1 : 3    Cops

Gerald

                          Cop x3

Last summer, two late goals against Cops fabricated a dramatic comeback that concluded a successful first season. This time, we were hoping to do it again for a 3-0-0 record this Christmas.

LUFC fielded a strong team other than the fact that Justin C and Shabi were missing from the lineup from sickness.

Cop took advantage of the unfavorable ground condition and controlled the game in the early stage since LUFC couldn’t really get to ball up the field. LUFC had a few chances including an Albert freekick that sailed over the goal and an aggressive attempt from 40 yards that dropped before it reached the box. Surprisingly enough, LUFC was the team to take the lead. When our team is on the verge to collapse, there is only one person to turn to, 戴志偉. In the context of LUFC, that will be Gerald. That being said, the goal was of course scored in the most 戴志偉 manner. Justin took the corner that was missed by everyone and it took the bounce near the penalty spot. With his back facing the goal and defenders closing up, Gerald had only one move in his mind—倒掛金勾. I actually didn’t see how it went in but it did and the whole team erupted in celebration.

Cops soon equalized and took the lead with two excellent goals but I don’t remember what they were like.

Although Cop were playing at the upper hand from the beginning through the end, LUFC did have a few chances to bring them back to the game, included two Albert’s breakaways that were saved.

When they scored the third, the game was pretty much over. All their goals were nice so we had nothing to blame.

Summary:

Again, the level of play dropped exponentially towards 2nd and 3rd period. Winston continued to be the most consistent of all performers. Anyhow, they were a good team and they deserved the victory. Albert, pass the ball motherfucker. Scholes and Brian partied too hard over christmas. We need them to deliver in order to have any chance against a good team. They are our midfield.

Man of the match: Winston

With the momentum of last week’s victory, LUFC took on Cathay Pacific hoping to improve their already impressive record. Brian and Lulu’s return strengthened our midfield and back. Albert and Shabi continued to play upfront and the only change to the starting lineup being Gerald dropped from left mid to left back.

The opponent looked competent in the early stage and the game was stagnant until a bad back pass from J So set up Cathay’s striker to take the lead. LUFC woke up at this point and fought back hard. Soon, Albert equalized with a volley from the outside of the box that rarely finds the net. After that, everything was in our way. Shabi showed no mercy and continued to molest Cathay’s center back who, besides being at least 50 years of age, was also believed to have thrown in the towel long ago after suffering from a few cramps. His five that night gave him the top scorer title for now. Albert dropped 2. The most notable goal was a fantastic build up from the left side to the right that was finished by Winston.

Summary: that other team sucked. Nuf said.

Man of the Match: Shabi, obviously

Against Eric's Young Team

20thDec, 06

Ma On Shan

LUFC  2-1   Eric

Gerald

Justin

                      Eric player 1

LUFC returned to HK for Christmas and took on Eric’s Young Team. Key starters Lulu and Brian were missing from the lineup while guest players LingLing and Jeff Mui were included in the roster.

Although this young team shows much promise, they are still inexperienced at this stage. LUFC went hard from the get-go but didn’t find the net until 10min from break, when Shabi just missed Albert’s cross from the right but Gerald’s timely arrival and cool finish gave them the lead. While most teams like to sit back after gaining the lead, LUFC never let their opponent off the hook easily. Justin doubled the lead just before half with a long range effort. After the match, many argued that it should not have been counted as a goal because the keeper, who looked like any random kid found under a bridge to fill in as keeper, fumbled the ball cheaply in his face. Anyhow, it was his first goal for LUFC and he certainly bended it like Beckham.

LUFC was determined to expand their lead in the second period but many chances have been spoiled in front of the goal. Shabi had a very frustrating game as nothing fell in favor of him. Into the third period, Eric’s team looked revived and created turmoil after turmoil in front of our goal that eventually crawled one back for them. They hit the post 3 times and had numerous chances spoiled. To say the least, we were lucky enough not to lose that game.

Summary:

It has become our personality to have a very strong start but we often run out of gas in the third period and we are lucky enough to maintain our lead to the last minute. There are positive signs of improvement in teamwork and building up of play, yet we need to finish our chances.

Albert’s brother was solid at the back and Jonathan So was inspirational. Justin C seems to be a better defensive center midfielder than a defender.

Man of the Match: Jonathan So
