| vicariously living through someone else's joys
Last week began like another week of exciting ministry. There was plenty to do, especially since The Rock was an official evacuation and distribution site for the city of San Diego. Then, on Thursday afternoon I got a peculiar call from a number I did not know. As I dialed to check my voicemail, I soon found out that it was my close friend, Steph's boyfriend. "What?" I thought, "he never calls me." Judging by that, I knew it meant something big.. something I was waiting to happen for almost two years. :)
Lo and behold, it was exactly what I thought it was. He was going to propose the following night and wanted to gather her family and close friends to celebrate. Hooray!! It was so exciting, especially since the last handful of times I had spoken to Steph, she had freely chatted away about marriage, engagements and other special things that her boyfriend had done for her. It was so sweet to see that glimmer of joy in her twinkling eyes. :)
... and now, two wonderful people who committed themselves to building a friendship that places God in the center of their lives are getting married!! God is good- and He delights in His people when they follow His paths.
I LOVE IT!

I can't really recall how long it has been since I started talking about relocating. Looking back, I really think I wanted to move out of the OC area when I was a freshman in high school. Growing up in the Laguna-area was great, but hard for the most part. There were things people did and valued that really did not strike a chord with me. As I explored life, fell a bit, learned from mistakes and others and went back to church my Senior year of high school, I realized I needed to find out who I was wired to be.
I know God's time and faithfulness will help me learn more about people and myself- and that the process will be never ending. As scared and excited as I may be about moving to a new place, I know every thing will be alrite because of my heavenly father and all that He has provided me with to this point in life.
I feel like busting out and singing that song that was on Armageddon:
...Cuz I'm leaving on a jet plane, I don't know when I'll be back again.
So many prayers of mine have already been answered to ease the anxiousness running through my veins. Isn't he so good?
Yes, indeed.

| Mom's back!!
...in talking to her about the different health care facilities in Shanghai...
.... me: Asian's are prone to have fertility problems. Mum: Oh really? there is a hospital just for women with that type of stuff. me: ok, well, that's good. Mum: yah, and there's even a hospital for the man. THE MAN, ONLY! me: really? wow, that's interesting. Mum: The man always has problems... you know, how they don't have the worms. me: worms? Mum: yah, you know the little worms that swim fast.

| Goodbye, Shanghai
It's the last day for me and Shanghai (for a while). I've seen so much in the last week- Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing and now back in good ol' Shanghai. For the most part, I think I accomplished what I came out here to do.
I will miss seeing my mum and dad together this next month. Adjusting and focusing on school again will be difficult, but it'll happen- I must finish in December and move on to bigger things!
Hope to see you all very soon.
miss you all. | | |
| Shanghai's lights
It's now day 3 in Shanghai. Paula and I have been able to go to these two shopping areas a few times to walk around and find some yummy eats. It's amazing how much STUFF is out here (and people)! Mom and Dad have been great tourguides- but Dad's a little more enthusiastic when it comes to all the attractions and sights of the area. I can see why he likes living here.. it's sort of busy in the daytime and there's plenty to do, see, eat and enjoy at night. The lights on all the buildings come on when it's dusk and residents get such a sight.
We went to the Grand Hyatt hotel today, a 86 (?) floor building including the Hyatt hotel which starts on the 54th floor. I went to the top and took a view down. The sight sort of set my heart on an adrenaline rush so I had to take a quick picture and back away. =) It was quite a view from the top.
On to West Lake and a lot of other places.
Pictures to come soon (as soon as I get an adapter for my computer) | | |
