Yeh - totally. Last night me, Mateja and Nicole went to Alpine Village in Torrance.

The contingent was literally, "South-Bay" - I could have sworn half the people there were like former students of mine at Long Beach. The rest could have been actual Nazi's who threw off their uniforms and donned t-shirts just for one night before hopping back into their time-machine.

I am sorely behind in my blogs.

I should have posted one about the party we had for Azad (because he's leaving) and my trip to the San Diego zoo.

Italian, you say? Very apropos, because TONIGHT I took Mateja to Angelini Osteria in Hollywood for her bday - THANK YOU LAUREN for that suggestion - and I must say this was probably the finest dining experience that we were going to have in 2008, if not like, EVER for a bday.

Mateja and I have been looking for some good Italian joints that were a tier above BJ's, so this was a very happy occassion.

The upscale crowds in Hollywood are a far cry from Venice. Last year for Mateja's bday we dined at Boa on Ocean and well... let's just say that while Hollywood has its headaches, I still prefer their classy "Old Money" stuffiness to the Venice Beach/Santa Monica "anything-goes-Blasé".

Our waiter (We forgot to ask his name, Doh) looked like Patrick Fischler and made the overall dining experience amazing. The meals are served multi-course and they tell you the specials in Italian. The only damper to the evening was the mother/daughter couple who sat RIGHT NEXT TO US (it is a very tight fit in the restaurant...) talking about how lovely their sex lives were, but what can you expect with Old Money.

I would suggest you go to this place immediately.

And I would recommend you try the Tagliatelle with Boar Sauce (secondi) and the Blood Sausage (antipasti).

not a good photo of the blood sausage - but c'mon. you can't go by its name NOR the photo. You just got to try it.....

Bulgarian food/ Bulgarian girls

For those of you who aren't familiar with Bulgarian food - I highly recommend trying Danube Bulgarian Restaurant on 1303 Westwood Blvd in Westwood. I had the pleasure of touching their cuisine to my lips last week and have been hurriedly trying to spend all my waking hours online and shopping for things I don't need so that I can waste even more time blogging about this new food. And then complain in a subsequent blog that I have no time to do anything. And then blogging again.

Great food, friendly Eastern European girls, and a flatscreen TV showing the latest pop hits from Bulgarian MTV.

For those of you who still thought Bulgaria touched Kazakhstan, Bulgaria is a small country south of Romania. If you are a fan of Neil Strauss' The Game you might subscribe to the neue-chiche that the further east in Europe you go, the hotter the girls are. Once Dan (before he met Kelly, of course) and I went out to a Hollywood joint and some (two, to be exact) Eastern-European girls started talking to us. Actually, they started talking to Dan and I just watched. But back then, I considered that scoring. Anyway - they were amazing. And I will from then on never forget that the capital of Bulgaria is Sofia. Not knowing that, cost me.

But I digress. Here, I will not talk about the girls, since:

a) I'm here to talk about food - as I do in every blog.

b) Mateja is a Slovenian - a country WEST of Bulgaria and I will not score tonight if I keep writing about Bulgarian girls.

At any rate because of the country's proximity to Greece, you do get tons of Moussaka - which I had. I highly recommend asking the girls what is the most authentic dish on the menu. They'll proudly tell you. And if you don't you'll probably end up eating something with fries in it.

Great appetizers and a cheap corkage fee make this place an all-in-all sweet experience. Oh - and this place is very casual and feels like you're eating in a friends' house. So, def good for casual dining, not a first date. Unless she's from Moldova and is trying to use you to get a Green Card.

I'm kidding. Go to this restaurant.

Hey guys I'm here to blog about a cool mini adventure Mateja and I had today at a Hawaiian-themed restaurant in Rosemead, CA.

Since Mateja likes all things "d' Island" (like her men) I took her to this little joint that I actually had passed several times when I was a little tot living in Alhambra. (Alh and Rsmd are neighboring towns) At anyyyyy rate.... here we are at Bahooka....(website: http://www.geocities.com/bahookarestaurant/welcome.htm) (THey haven't updated their page in a while and it's super antiquated haha Geocities)

... on 4501 N. Rosemead Blvd in good ol' 91770. Boasting over 100 Aquariums, with exotic fish that have LITERALLY been living in those tanks since the 60's. I mean, fish that aren't sold in pet stores anymore.

Really rad. And the entire decor of the place - it's like you have stepped onto an old 60's fish barge off the coast of Oahu. Super rad. Every square INCH of the place is decorated, even the ceilings. Fish tanks surround the tables and service is fast. Def a high recommendation from me, although I did NOT try the ribs as the website says to do, and we weren't there for dinner... but soon ......

A little of the interior and the exterior.... and oh yeah - the large fish you see is a Paku. It is related to the Piranha. It is massive and is 34 years old. That thing was living in that tank before I was born, and before I lived in my house in Alhambra back in 1980.

A very strange thing happened to me the day after my birthday party - June 7th. Randomly, out of nowhere, an IM by the same of "OppositeSalmon" messaged me and began this ridiculous conversation with me:

OppositeSalmon: It was great seeing you last night.
ME: Oh yeh? It was great seeing you. (this is me trying to play it cool and smoke this person's identity out)
OppositeSalmon: It was nice to run my hands all over your things. Your house is so cool.
ME: What do you mean by "things?"
OppositeSalmon: Come on now. You remember.
ME: Ok yes - I remember now. We called the guard and high priest and had you escorted out of my castle. Halfway down the tower they became tired of walking down the stairs so they just tossed you into the moat.
OppositeSalmon: Don't be an asshole, you' IMed me first.

Pretty stupid. Except for the fact that I kept drilling this person for the next hour and still didn't know who this person was, and it was pretty clear this person didn't know me.

Then I surmised that it could have been a bot.

If this was indeed an IM bot, it was the most advanced one I had ever talked to. I did a search for "OppositeSalmon" and came up with a few blogger's entries:

Apparently the bot either is a machine that's capable of way more advanced conversation than your typical SmarterChild, or Spleak - or it's just some annoying thing that pairs your IM name up randomly with another person for the sake of witnessing chaos and confusion between two strangers.

Stranger still, is that all these bots have the suffix "Salmon"... woodensalmon, comatosesalmon. Why do genius programmers and hackers only use their skills for utter BS like this?

Either way, I am taking my IM name off my Facebook. Most blogs say that IM names can be retrieved off of your livejournal, but I don't have one. The only way someone has my IM name is from Facebook. Has anyone had this happen to them? What's more lame than a random bot talking to you, is that somewhere, somehow, some nerd has the ability to read our IM conversations.

................sheesh luiz.

Only losers have to work on Fridays.

Cool people like me, post my blogs in the same place over and over again in an effort to suffocate myself with my own self-aggrandizement.

(.... still trying to find a way to use the word "self" again.....)

Anyway, just wanted to say that most recently Art Thief Musical! has been licensed to the Russian site minimovie.ru, which features all sorts of cool international shorts, Sundance winners to small camcorder gems.

So it looks like it'll stay on there for a year or so, with a chance of renewal, so THANKS to people who still write to me for DVDs and keep up with the goings on of Autumn Reeser and me. I love stalkers.
