Where are you headed?

Southwestern Assemblies of God University has a for profit company, SAGU Financial Services, that does business as Nelson Investments (named after the founder of the university, P.C. Nelson).

The houses they own on Village Drive (across the street from Southwestern, one block away from the new $15 million dollar residence halls under construction) are in serious disrepair and not up to code.

Students and others have asked the administration to repair the holes in the walls and windows, the electrical problems, the plumbing, the wires coming out of the walls...to no avail. Most of the tenants are Hispanic.

So students have worked on the houses themselves several times (at their own expense).

The process of helping the school do the right thing started in October 2004.

The houses are still in very poor condition. Alumni, students, and friends of SAGU are requesting that the school either

1) bring the houses up to code and not raise the rent for these basic repairs that simple justice requires (to say nothing of Christian love), or

2) give the tenants a couple of months to find other housing and tear the houses down (since they're slated for demolition anyway sometime in the next few years).
