Ode to Caffeine

Caffeine, it is you that I love dearly.
At first I tried to deny it but now
I can see perfectly and so clearly
That you dwell within my heart. Tell me how
Would I make it through each day without you?
Would the sun rise, or shed a single bright ray,
Without your power to help me to do
The great tasks that I must perform today?
And so caffeine, please don't ever leave me.
I need you to save me from the cruel pain
Of the boredom that attacks me daily.
Without your help I would become insane.

Joseph: the soon to be father of Jesus

(Late one night in Joseph's room)

<What do I do, what do I do???...how long has she known about the child?...I mean sure she promises that she is still a virgin, but can I really trust her?>

Of course not Joseph...how would it be possible to bear a child without first laying with a man?

<Well, I guess that's true...No...no, I have to trust her...I love her. She's going to be my wife. How can I marry her if i can't trust her?>

You can't Joseph...she's lying to you...what is she but a woman...there are plenty of others for you to choose from...come. Let me take you to them.

<No. I love her...I couldn't do that...>

What will everyone else think, Joseph? Even if you do buy this "still a virgin" story, they won't possibly believe her. Neither will they believe you. You're only a carpenter.

<How can I get out of this?...Tell me, what do I do?>

Divorce her quietly, Joseph. Tell her you don't love her like you used to. Tell her that you don't believe her. Get. Rid. Of. Her!

<All right...yes...That will have to work.>

(he sleeps. he is awakened the next morning by the sunrise in his window.)

<Who was that man in my dream? He was in all white and...Oh God forgive me! I remember now the will of your messenger, Lord. I am sorry that I doubted Mary. We will be married and our son...Your son...shall be named Jesus. Thank you, Lord.>

But Joseph-

<Enough! I'll not stand in the way of God's will.>

The people, Joseph, the people!

<Away, Satan! The Messiah IS coming.>

"Anytime you're feeling lonely, focus on his joy. When the time comes for your understanding peace will conquer your painful tears, endless comfort as the Lord draws nearer."- Acapella

How many times do we go to God in prayer focused on ourselves? How many times do we pray in general? If you're like me then it's not enough, but then we can never pray enough. But just think how many times we ask God "give ME this" or " I need this." We constantly focus on ourselves and our problems right now and fail to see the things God gives us already. As if it weren't enough that he sent his only son to die for me, a worthless sinner, but he also gives us talents and abilities, jobs, money, food, shelter, friends, family, etc. Why are we constantly asking for more from God when he has already given us more then we could ever dream of. God has given us all a ticket to Heaven, and for what? The things we do? The people we know? No. He did it because He created us in His image to be His children and because we are His He wants all of us to come home. Instead of always asking things of God we should be constantly rejoicing in all things because even though we were still lost in sin God gave up His son for you and me. Do we feel deserving of that? Do we think that God owes us more than what He has already given? I should hope not. The thing is, while we don't deserve anything from God, He continues to pour blessings down on us. Even in times of trouble and heartache He is there with us and will provide the way out. Thanksgiving may have passed, but I now know what I am thankful for: God's unending, unyielding, unwavering grace.

"Lord you give, not what I am due, by being there for my rescue."- Acapella

The Lord will rescue you. In fact, He already has.

Your Brother in Christ,
Matt
