The Mouse who Ate Her Belt

(Story based on actual events.  Names and places have been changed to protect those involved.)

Once upon a time there was a red-headed girl named dori who worked at the Fairy Queen and lived in a small home in the Hill of Oaks, Ohio.  Each morning she would get up and get ready for work.  But today would be an unusual day.  You see, last night she arrived home from her job at Fairy Queen just in time for church.  So she took off her belt, dropped it onto the bathroom floor and ran into her room to change.  She was so tired when she arrived home and busied herself for a good night's rest that she forgot to pick up her belt and take it to her room.
The next morning, New Years morning, Dori got up and readied herself for work as usual.  She was all ready to go, except for her belt...  You see, this accessory is not only for looks, but is an essential part of her wardrobe... seeing that her pants are slightly too big for her.  Dori quickly remembered that she had dropped her belt in the bathroom the night before.  So she hurried into the bathroom, only to find a little mouse chewing away at her belt!  Dori's first reaction was to scream and cry "not again!"  Because this was not her first encounter with a mouse.  Instead, Dori decided that she would grab the broom and try to get the mouse away from her belt.  She grabbed the broom and climbed up onto the sink (just in case the mouse would try to run out of the bathroom.  But just as Lori...I mean Dori was about to hit the mouse, she noticed that, once again, the mouse was on one of those stupid little sticky pads... the stupidest invention ever made.  The little mouse had gotten stuck on the pad behind the toilet and had somehow wiggled its way over to her belt... not only that, but it somehow managed to get 1/2 of her belt also stuck to the sticky pad!  Therefore rendering the belt useless forever!
To make a long story short... Dori used the skill she had learned after the first insident with a mouse and proceeded to make her "shovel" out of her broom and dust pan. She picked up the pad, mouse, and belt and threw it outside.  And went to the Fairy Queen without her belt.   The good news is...Dori bought poison... NO MORE STICKY PADS!  Death to the mice!  The bad news is... Dori's favorite belt is no more.

My Christmas

Still no pictures of my cute little cousin...
But this is how my Christmas went...
Saturday was spent taking care of my cute little cousin Nick...
Sunday we had both a morning service and an evening service.  In the evening service we just sang Christmas carols, listened to the Christmas story, smelled frankincense and myrrh, and lit candles.
On Sunday night I got to be included in my aunt's tradition of getting pijamas for Christmas.  They always open them on Saturday night so that they can put them on and drive around looking at Christmas lights.  So we all put on our new pijamas and headed to downtown pittsburg in the minivan to look at lights.  The best part of the night was getting out of the van to look at a huge manger scene, at the same time the lutheran church across the street was getting out of their service.  So here we are in our pijamas and slippers and out comes the whole church in suits and ties and dresses.
Christmas day was pretty uneventful, but still nice.  We went over to a church family's house for a late lunch/early supper.  They have 8 kids, my aunt and uncle have 4, plus me...equaled a lot of people!  We played a cool trivia game about junk food, called Eat It...and I won.  Go Figure!
Tuesday- Friday was spent up at anna's, which I already mentioned.... We had a blast with angela!  I think we all shed a tear or two at the end of Charlotte's web   Free refills on popcorn and pop, bowling, and a late dinner at Cracker barrel made the trip a blast.

and that folks, was my Christmas vacation...

jubilate

You may be wondering why i have these two random pictures... well, it is Anna is in one of them and Angela is in the other...and that is who I am spending the day with today!  I have been up at anna's since tuesday!  It makes me miss the three years we spent together as roommates... not to mention the freshman year we were practically roommates because we spent so much time together.  Good times.  But today is going to be a little taste of once was.  Today Amber, Anna, Amanda, and I are going to meet Angela and bowl and go to a movie!  I am so excited!  Then tomorrow I have to go home.   Back to normal life...

A post will follow...detailing my Christmas and will hopefully have pics of my adorable new cousin Nick! So long for now!

A new story

Recently I feel like I have had so much excitement ...so many good xanga stories... tonight was no exception!   So it here it is...without further adeiu... "my first house emergency"

It was a dark, rainy Thursday night when I arrived home from our church service at the nursing home.  The clock had just struck 9.  Everything seemed normal.  I thought to myself "hmmmm I think I should get myself something to eat"  (since I hadn't eaten anything all day!)   So I strolled into the kitchen, turned on all the lights, and there it was...staring at me with it's beady little eyes... a MOUSE!  I proceeded to go into a panic... I hate anything that creeps and crawls.... even now, after the fact, I still am getting goosebumps and shivers down my spine...   Stuart little was trapped on the stupid little sticky trap.  I found tonight that sticky pads do just about as much good then if I were to draw a sign that said "mouse come in here" and taped it to a cardboard box!   I tried to ignore it and make my supper...but it kept wiggling and looking straight at me like its only goal in life was to get free and scare the life out of me by charging straight for me.  I knew that it would not give up until it did!  So I had to come up with a plan...and it had to be a good one.  I knew I couldn't leave it there....chances were it would get loose and hunt me down in my sleep.  I knew I was NOT going to pick that thing up and risk the chance of him coming loose while attempting to take him outside!  Mrs. Miller suggested killing him with a frying pan... the thought of it nearly made me sick!   So instead I found the longest thing possible... my broom....and taped the dust pan to it... used the dust pan to scoop up the little sticky thing...(that way i would at least have a good three feet between me and the rodent if he happened to come loose giving me time to scream at the top of my lungs and jump uo on something)  I made it to the door safe and sound and threw the thing outside as far away as my little broom could catapult it!  My heart is still racing...and I am paranoid about going into my kitchen....for fear he might get loose and come back for revenge!  But I did it!  And I did it without a man!   It's a miracle...   I think whatever "genuis" thought that he had the best idea in the world when he invented those sticky traps is the dumbest guy ever!   If I ever meet him someday... I don't know what I will do...but I will think of something!
