DID YOU EVER GET ONE OF THOSE DAYS BOYS..EVER GET ONE... AS THE SONG GOES!

How unbelievably long since the last blog.... sooo much water under the bridge a big bucket couldn't bring it back...

But... I read the following today as I'm sure many others did as well... taken from UCB's daily word...

"... troubles produce patience. And patience produces character..." Romans 5:3-4

Do you ever wondeer what sort of character goes is producing in You!.... really you have to laugh or as the saying goes you would cry.

As I read it today I wondered what might be around the bend... in some way its quite encouraging that the Holy Spirit gives you a 'heads up'. Only, in truth, I dont want to face struggles and trials etc. But isn't is good to know our Father loves us so much he willingly gives us a heads up before that trial or struggle comes. I'm not saying for one moment its always like that - maybe because I haven't always experienced it like that. MAYBE he wants our walk to grow so close that the 'heads up' experiences become even more apparent, clear, audible... tangible... this side of heaven.... similar to Enoch's experience - maybe!?

Well... the Invasion North plans are well under way... the prep team are in place... we look forward to the team coming from Living Word, New York. Anyone local reading this who may be interested in volunteering for this summer's mission... please drop me an email and I will advise of initial plans...

Blessings on you all... may God be so real to each of you that you can 'nearly' catch your own reflection in his eyes...... Les

Saturday 4 February 2006... it has been sooo long!

It is probably fair to say we all go through dark or dry seasons. Mine lasted from 30th November to 25th December. Without going into all the minute detail, just let me assure you that by God's grace I am fine. To be honest I haven't felt so clear minded about the things of God in my life for such a long time. I am grateful to my Lord, Saviour and friend - Jesus.  I am grateful that in his discipline of me,  his heart is to assure me of his love and continued purpose and direction for this redeemed life. Why, I still don't know other than the inner conviction of ... I am my beloveds and He is mine. What a treasure.

During the 'season' I read two books which I highly recommend - Simply Jesus by Joseph Stowell and A Shiver of Wonder by Derick Bingham - the latter about the life of CS Lewis. While the content of both books was different, they had commonality woven through them. Here is a little taste:

... Are you convinced that even in the darkest of times He is with you, that He has a purpose, and that He will not waste your sorrows?
If you answer yes to these questions, you're on your way to a closer walk with the Son of God. The psalmist tells us that... 'He inhabits the praises of His people' (Psalm 22:3 KJV). Strangely enough, it doesn't say He inhabits our complaints or our self-serving compliments. If your heart is full of complaining or self-pity - or of self-congratulating applause - you won't experience His nearness. Positioning our lives to experience Jesus requires seeing beyond the blessings and burdens of life...to fill our hearts with Him alone. In the process, we learn the sweet skill of boasting on Him, regardless.
He inhabits the praises of His people.
Meet Him there.
(Extract from 'Simply Jesus' written by Joseph Stowell, president of the Moody Bible Instute)

So from just after Christmas a particular piece of scripture has been coming back to me repeatedly - Ephesians 5 from about verse 15

...15Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is my desire to be a consumer of God's Word... but in a way which Paul commands... For too long have I started each day with the usual alarm clock - bathroom - breakfast - drive to work - hit the office - routine etc etc etc and continue to hope that the position I have in Christ will see me through... but having read Ephesians I am convinced that God wants us to seek Him daily... to ask for cleansing and filling on a daily basis... not just a regular basis as this ultimately leads to self reliance and onward to omitting God grom His rightful place.
Enough already as its time for bed... will write more later...

Tuesday 8th November 2005

... what a wonderful God... so the lyrics go of another heart wrenching Chris Tomlin song... what a wonderful maker... what a wonderful Saviour... the words draw out of my soul such agreed sentiment. The declare the truth, they are the truth. So no matter what condition I am in He is still all of the above and more.

Whatever place you are in at this moment - stop - speak quietly to yourself those words. Allow them to muster your head into line with your heart - the place where Jesus dwells. How true the apostle speaks when we need to offer  our minds for renewal... every day! Consciously drag your mind to the foot of the cross... lay down again the pain, the rejection, the loneliness, the despair - return the joy, the celebration, the praise to the One who is truly Wonderful.

blessings

Tuesday 18th October 2005

... the Lord fills my cup to overflowing.... to be honest I rarely feel this way. All too often its more like a feeling of half empty or the cup is knocked over. Usually I'm the fault. In our efforts to do the will of God we somehow equate this as having to do all that is asked of us by everyone else other than the Lord! Crazy world.

As you can read from Becca's blog, Max is in France with school and I don't really have a clue how to use a washing machine - to prove the point - when Max was giving us a 'lesson', I replied to her question of "what do you do next?" by saying hit the PLAY button!! Well it does have an arrow and pause symbol on it and as someone in the audio world - well need I say more!!!

It is always refreshing to read all your blogs so a big thanks for the encouragement they give - keep it up. One of the greatest things in life is knowing that you are loved. As I read about you lot it becomes obvious that love aboundeth... KJV! Even when you open yourselves to potential confrontation it is apparent in the comments given back that others just want to get alongside and share the love that God has given to them with you...

Finally, this saturday in Ballysillan, 7.30-9.30ish we are meeting together with the guys over from Global, Crumlin Rd, ROCK, Blue Houses, St Andrew's and a few others in preparation for Invasion North 2006. Spread the word - don't really know what to expect other than when we approach the Lord to seek Him He will be found. We come together for information but also to encourage one another - if you have any questions drop me a line. In the meantime say a little prayer for the washing machine- it may have the odd CD thrown into it!!

 - I took this one January day inear LA - it was a work related trip, but I remeber thinking how awesome is our God - He who makes the sun rise and go to bed in the evening! Whatever you are all doing when you read this... know you are loved by the same Creator who has this unfathomable ability. Blessings

Sunday 25th September 2005

Can you believe it when you look at the date... 25th... 3 months to Christmas!... there I've gone and said it... Christmas!! Where does the time go to.

So much seems to have happened in the last 3 months highs and lows... the desire is that it would all be highs - just doesnt work like that. My prayer is that we would have an incredible experience with God over these next days and weeks. To have such an encounter with the living Christ that not only our lives but also the lives of countless others would be transformed as we eagerly await His return. I know the thought may trouble some... it may cause others to state - 'Oh He wont be back yet a while' - maybe so... but i'm just saying whatever the timescale we need to be ready... we need to realise that we are called to live as if it is our last days and we have been given the task to tell others the fantastic truth concerning Jesus.

Its not always easy... in fact its pretty hard. Especially when people are sooo disallusioned with christianity in this age of self reliance, self deliverance, self determination - but there is no greater need than now. Take a few minutes after you read this blog and think about the following...

Think of a clear dark night sky... not a breeze and everything is still. You can see hundreds if not thousands of stars. Suddenly, you see a shooting star... in a second its gone and before you know it you are back to looking at all those stars in their place... giving off their light to us. A gentle wind stirs the trees and you feel it upon your face - like the shooting star its gone as quick as the shooting star.  In that short space of time you have been engaged with some of the natural wonders around you.

Now think of the promise in scripture which tells us Jesus will never leave us - never forsake us. He is not like the shooting star which we can ponder at in amazement. He is constantly with us and yet we struggle to believe or understand at times. When you feel like this try to get out to your back yard and look at those stars. They will help to remind you of His promise. In the same way as they are constant... greater is HE.

from my telescope... I will try to take a few better ones in the near future!
