  • TwitterCrack

I know, I know, I don't ever update.  The whole truth is that the "micro-blogging" thing over at twitter seems to be way more my speed.  I have a hard time being very verbose lately.  Stringing 140 characters together several times a day is a lot easier for me than trying to come up with a whole blog post once a month.  We'll  see how this plays out, in the mean time - Follow me!  http://twitter.com/mmmfiber

  • Three Things

    1. I have an appointment for a pre-colonoscopy consultation today.

    2. I have a job interview at the Oregon Council for the Humanities next week.

    3. My brother G is coming to visit for my birthday.

I have ordered this list thusly: scary, nervewracking, exciting.

  • Where have I been?

    Dunno.  Around.

Had a rough week last week, work sucked, felt depressed, general malaise.  I feel much better now, though.  Looking forward to a girlie matinee of Sex and the City with my sister and my buddy today.  Also looking forward to the trip to Seattle next weekend to see Anthony Bourdain.  We're only staying one night but it will be really nice to get away.

I added a twitter module to the left there, so I'll sent updates when I'm out and about for y'all.

    Later.

  • Recommendation

Having only just begun this book, I have to say -  it's so enjoyable that I have to give a partial review now.

Barbara Kingsolver is a fiction writer, so I've heard.  I've never read any of her novels.  That said, her style of writing non-fiction is definitely colored by her other hand.

I readandreadandreadandread, for so many years of my life, wonderful and amazing fiction.  Then one day I could read only non-fiction.  I was a current events junkie.  Picking up a novel felt like shirking my duty somehow.  I've read from great journalists, scientists, essayists and experts in their field and felt learned, and the better for it.

This book feels different to me.  Her descriptions of experiences are well felt and elaborate.  It's a different kind of read from my usual. Which is a good thing. So, let it be said that I recommend this book.
    It makes me feel good.

  • The Beach!

So I took a few days off of work because, well, I hate my job, and it was either take a break or go postal.

Adam's days off are Thursday and Friday, so we drove to the coast yesterday morning with the dogs and spontaneously decided to stay the night.  It was a beautiful, gorgeous and perfect day.  The dogs had so much fun I thought they might keel over from sheer enjoyment.  Especially Kafka, it was sooooo freakin' cute. Little boy loves the beach. Adam got roasted to a fairtheewell and I think has heat stroke (or a really bad hangover), but we had a blast and some much needed relaxation.  We stayed at the Seaside Inn - very nice place and people.  They didn't even kick us out when we left the dogs in the room to grab dinner and they barked like mad the whole time we were gone. Yes, we are officially those people with the dogs who you want to kill. Anyway, even rotten beasts couldn't spoil our good time.
