  • Beloved these are dangerous times
Because you are weightless like a leaf from the vine
And the wind has blown you all over town
Because there is nothing holding you to the ground

So now you would rather be
A slave again than free from the law

    (Chorus)
    Beloved listen to me
Don't believe all that you see
And don't you ever let anyone tell you
That there's anything that you need
    But me

    Beloved these are perilous days
When your culture is so set in it's ways
That you will listen to salesmen and thieves
Preaching other than the truth you've received

    Because they are telling lies
For they cannot circumcise your hearts

    (Chorus)
    Beloved there is nothing more
No more blessings and no more rewards
Than the treasure of my body and blood
Given freely to all daughters and sons

oh my goodness!!! i'm watching "the wedding story" on TLC. okay, i know that's a little weird, but i've always liked that show. so anyway, a couple is getting married in atlanta and they are having the whole wedding in CIVIL WAR DRESS!!! what in the world??? this is ridiculous. please, if anyone even reads this...DO NOT EVER DO THIS! it is so tacky and gross. the war is over!!!

and on that note, yesterday i'm driving through the square of oxford on the way home from church and there are men in civil war uniforms marching through the square. i love the south, but sometimes it is just TOO MUCH!

  • this is a derek webb song, and i think the lyrics are amazing...

    "(vs. 1)
don’t teach me about politics and government
just tell me who to vote for
don’t teach me about truth and beauty
    just label my music

don’t teach me how to live like a free man
just give me a new law

    (pre-chorus)
i don’t wanna know if the answers aren’t easy
so just bring it down from the mountain to me

    (chorus)
    i want a new law
    i want a new law
    gimme that new law

    (vs. 2)
don’t teach me about moderation and liberty
i prefer a shot of grape juice

don’t teach me about loving my enemies

don’t teach me how to listen to the Spirit
just give me a new law

    (pre-chorus/chorus)

    (bridge)
what’s the use in trading a law you can never keep
for one you can that cannot get you anything
    do not be afraid
    do not be afraid
    do not be afraid"

  • "There are many poor souls that think themselves fine reasoners, yet they pretend to say there is no such thing as original sin; they will charge God with injustice in imputing Adam's sin to us; although we have got the mark of the beast and of the devil upon us, yet they tell us we are not born in sin. Let them look abroad into the world and see the disorders in it, and think, if they can, if this is the paradise in which God did put man. No! everything in the world is out of order. I have often thought, when I was abroad, that if there were no other argument to prove original sin, the rising of wolves and tigers against man, nay, the barking of a dog against us, is a proof of original sin. Tigers and lions durst not rise against us, if it were not for Adam's first sin; for when the creatures rise up against us, it is as much as to say, You have sinned against God, and we take up our Master's quarrel."

  • from "The Story of Us"...

Katie: I want to go to Chow Funs
Ben: I thought we agreed we couldn't really talk at Chow Funs
    Katie: I know
Ben: Are you saying Chow Funs because you can't face telling the kids? Because if that's why you're saying Chow Funs, don't say Chow Funs
Katie: That's not why I'm saying Chow Funs. Funs, I'm saying Chow Funs because we're an us. There's a history here, and histories don't happen overnight. In Mesopotamia or Ancient Troy there are cities built on top of other cities, but I don't want another city, I like this city. I know what kind of mood your in when you wake up by which eyebrow is higher, and you know I'm a little quiet in the morning and compensate accordingly, that's a dance you perfect over time. And it's hard, it's much harder than I thought it would be, but there's more good than bad and you don't just give up! And it's not for the sake of the children, but God they're great kids aren't they? And we made them, I mean think about that! It's like there were no people there, and then there were people and they grew, and an an an I won't be able to say to some stranger Josh has your hands or remember how Erin threw up at the Lincoln Memorial And I'll try to relax, let's face it, anybody is going to have traits that get on your nerves, I mean, why shouldn't it be your annoying traits, and I know I'm no day at the beach, but I do have a good sense of direction so I can at least find the beach, which isn't a weakness of yours, it's a strength of mine. And God your a good friend and good friends are hard to find. Charlotte said that in Charlottes Web and I love how you read that to Erin and you take on the voice of Wilber the Pig with such dedication even when your bone tired. That speaks volumes about character! And ultimately, isn't that what it comes down too? What a person is made of? That girl in the pin helmet is still here 'bee boo bee boo' I didn't even know she existed until you and I'm afraid if you leave I may never see her again, even though I said at times you beat her out of me, isn't that the paradox? Haven't we hit the essential paradox? Give and take, push and pull, the yen the yang. The best of times, the worst of times!I think Dickens said it best, 'He could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean', but, doesn't really apply here does it? What I'm trying to say is, I'm saying Chow Funs because, I love you
Ben: Did you hear that kids? Mom wants to go to chow Funs!

About Me

  • "But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, "Do it again" to the sun; and every evening, "Do it again" to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we." G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy
