| From just about everybody...This happens to be a variation (she says "corruption") of one of Jen's favorite movie quotes ever:
| | |
| The baby shower was last weekend, and Jen and I just went out and had a spree at Target with the gift cards we received. We got some travel stuff, a humidifier, pacifiers, and such. But we mainly stocked up on clothes. They're so tiny! Little onesies, jumpers, a little pooh bear hat, and all of it so diminutive it looks like toy clothing. But only a couple more weeks and it will be put to use! | | |
| Busy night, but everything's coolFirst: Jen and Baby are just fine. So, now for the story.
Jen
woke me at about 2AM because she was feeling really sick and wanted me
to rub her back. This did not help much, and she was soon in the
bathroom experiencing an unknown, very unpleasant sensation.
Contractions! A warm bath seemed to help a bit, but then she got sick
and they kicked in with a vengeance and she had me call the doctor. He
said that with the reported symptoms, Jen should come in for
monitoring. So she got her PJ's and a robe and we were off for the
hospital's birthing center.
Jen had already registered at the
birth center, so we just had to sign in and we were escorted to an
antepartum room for testing. Jen was given a piece of origami to wear,
which I helped her figure out, and then the fetal monitors were
attached and Rowan's heartbeat came through loud and clear. Jen's blood
pressure was just fine, though the nurse had Jen drink a bunch of water
while she was there as she was apparently a little dehydrated.
Otherwise we just sat while the machine recorded Rowan's heartbeat and
a couple little contractions. After about half an hour, the nurse came
back around and said that everything looked fine and the doctor said
that there had been a flu going around, and the vomiting kicked off the
contractions. We ended up getting back around 4:15AM. Jen took the day
off work to recuperate, and she feels fine now, while I worked a later
shift. | | |
| !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!So, some news to post. I have been feeling stagnant at my current job for a while. Then I became irked when the only other IT person, JD, left in August and the company never replaced him. Not at JD but at the company. I never looked for another job, but when an opportunity presented itself, I took a look. I had two interviews, including one with the CIO of the company, and I will start as a Senior FoxPro Programmer April 17th. My last day at my current job is the 12th, giving me time to head down to L.A. for Jen's Southern California Baby Shower. | | |
| I found this in the paper during lunch just now, and wanted to record it. There is a martial element to it, as with many ancient Greek writings, but I see it a broader light, as an exhortation to learn from history and stand on the shoulders of giants to reach that little bit farther in our own lives.
For the whole earth is the sepulcher of famous men; and their story is not graven only on stone over their native earth, but lives on far away, without visible symbol, woven into the stuff of other men's lives. For you now it remains to rival what they have done and knowing the secret of happiness to be freedom and the secret of freedom a brave heart, not idly to stand aside from the enemy's onset. | | |
