My return to the workplace

Started work on Monday.  Boss is currently in Israel on business but should be coming back tomorrow.  So far just a bunch of orientation/training stuff.  People seem pretty cool.

I think I got a really good first assignment.  I believe that HR placed people according to what school they're from.  So most of the other people also starting out have these budgeting and planning and reporting type of jobs while I have a strategic function.  I was talking with one of the trainers today and she basically told me they do that based on what school you're coming from...  so I guess it's things like that that make people think there is politics going on.  A couple of alums are doing really well here.  We'll see.

Got a nice door ding on my first day but for some reason I wasn't even really pissed.  I mean a car is still a car I guess, no use getting all worked up.  Still haven't really found a good parking place.  Nice to have a parking structure so the car doesn't get hot or rained on.

It's been hard waking up early, tomorrow is (forced) volunteer day so I'll get to sleep in a bit.

Still eagerly waiting for that much needed paycheck.

Car is sweet.  It's rather amazing how much the human body adapts though, when I first test drove an M3, it was scary fast but now it's like meh, I guess it's quick...  although sometimes it still surprises me.

Oh, one another thing I noticed at work is how many women there are, for a tech company I wasn't expecting this many women.  Even in finance, where MBAs usually come in a 70/30 male/female ratio, there are a lot of women.  In our training class, it was half women.  Certainly not complaining though.

So I found a place in SJ.  Will be moving on 7/5.  A nice place.  The owners seem really nice too, a young couple who gave up trying to sell the condo and are now renting it out.  I picked the hottest weekend ever to go looking for a place and it's a ton of work cuz I look at too many places but in the end, I guess it was all worth it.

And today, I finally found a car.  A used E46 M3 in pristine condition.  The current and only owner was obviously anal about the car and it's in great condition.  He's an older dude in his 40's and still put on exhaust, coilovers, short shifter, strut bars, new wheels and a lot more.  I like most of the modifications and he also has the stock parts as well.

The bank was closed by the time the inspection was completed so I have to wait until Monday to pick up the car.

So I was debating feverishly between the AP1 S2000, AP2 S2000 and the M3 and maybe a 330Ci in the back of my mind but once I test drove an M3 I was sold, the S2000 is still a fun car and I may still get one in the future...  If Honda only made an S2000 coupe since I don't like convertibles.

Btw, I thought I wanted an AP1 S2000 because of its 9000rpm redline and more raw nature but after test driving one, the ride was way too stiff, my back felt at unease even after the test drive.  Speaking of which, I think I scared the heck out of the poor salesgirl who came with me.  At first, she was like 'oh, cool, a convertible.'  I did warn her that I was going to take it to the redline but she was still scared witless.  I, too, had forgotten how loud VTEC at wot is.  Anyway, I must be getting old if I think the AP1 is too raw.

Speaking of test drives, I didn't like the M3's rasp during hard acceleration from looking at videos online but in person, I think I might actually like it.  Can't wait until Monday.

I graduated.  Mom and bro came then we took a trip to Canadia, visited Montreal, Quebec City and Niagara Falls.  Had some issues with roomie's family, particularly his uncle straight from mainland China but water under the bridge now.

Been back in So Cal for about a week now.  Now looking for a car and an apartment up north, will probably make a trip up next week to check out places.  My company seems to be in THE most expensive part of Silicon Valley.  My goal of living as close as possible to work may have to give a little bit.  Seems like the newer, mega complexes that are professionally managed raise their rents like crazy every year and have very poor management.

Also, as mentioned, looking for a car, right now some of my choices are: S2000, RSX-S, or another BMW either another 330Ci or an M3.  Heck, even the 06+ Civic Si's are looking nice as well.  Not many people crossshop BMWs and Civics I suppose...  The S2000 is the least practical, I don't know how much of a hassle having a car with 2 seats and virtually no trunk space would be... also, if I get a place with carport parking, I think any flashy or nice car is a bad idea.

1 exam and 1 presentation/paper to go.

Last week of classes!

After that, another week of projects, presentations and 1 exam for another week.  2 weeks of school left overall.  Last exam is on 5/10.  Then, graduation (no one ever calls it graduation, they always call it commencement or convocation etc.) on 5/24.

Bro and mom coming over for graduation, then a weeklong trip on the east coast.  Then bye-bye to the east coast.  (bye-bye is how I've noticed the Taiwanese people say good bye to each other, it's very amusing to me when the guys say it)

I hope to never have a roommate again.  It's been mostly good, but sometimes just being together constantly, things rub you the wrong way.  No blow-ups or anything like that though.  We'll still be friends but fortunately not roommates anymore.  I think what made it worse is that we have our own sleeping rooms but have the same study room so are sitting right next to each other all the time.

Reflecting on my whole MBA experience, it's been awesome and I have no regrets.

Or so I thought until I saw what my student loan bill will be.

Even then, seriously, I am so glad to have gone back to school.
