My Life....So, it has been a while since I updated. I was over at my parents place over Christmas which was fun. We had a pretty simple Christmas because my family is getting more and more serious about poverty in Africa. Most of you know how my family is involved in clean water projects in Africa-specifically Nigeria and Rwanda. We decided that we didn't need as much "stuff" for Christmas while most of the world suffers from the lack of basic needs like clean water and enough food. It is awkward taking this approach because part of you agrees because you know it is right, but the other part of you is like, "man I miss getting sweet gifts!" Along those lines, I'm reading this book that I got from Godwin called, "Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger: Moving from Affluence to Generosity." It is killing me. I hate poverty. I hate the suffering of human beings. The problem is so complex though. Poverty is caused by a million variables: greed, injustice, big business, immoral politics, materialism, capitalism, socialism, centeralized power, and ultimately sin. The whole thing is just utterly overwhelming. The last part of the book is focused on what individual people can do about poverty and injustice in the world. It is pretty hardcore stuff. I have a lot of thinking to do. |
