  • I passed my test!!!!!!!!!!

I found out today that I passed my State exam (final written test). I had the second highest score in the class, and I'll be receiving a special award at graduation. Not only do I have brawn, but brains also! Tomorrow I get sworn in and start working as a real police officer.

So a lot has happened in the past month or so.

I passed my PT test as I mentioned before. That had to be the hardest thing, physically, I have ever had to do. I gave everything I had, and then some. The Lord got me through it. I remember running the last lap on autopilot, and trying to run as hard as I could. As soon as I crossed the finish line, with 2 seconds to spare, I collapsed on the ground and rolled out of the way of other runners. Some of my classmates rushed over, poured water on me, and gave me water to drink. I was so exhausted that a couple guys had to help me up off the ground, and assist me with walking into the shade. I was exhausted the rest of the day. I had committed that when I passed my test, I would buy a Panini's sandwich, and I did. I got a pastrami Panini's sandwich. I was only able to eat 1/2 of it. I wasn't even hungry. (me to tired to eat is unheard of). I ended up being sick for the next couple days. I couldn't eat very much. (weird, huh?) For some reason, anything that I ate that day, I can't eat now. The thought of it makes me sick. oh well.

We had a couple more weeks of class, but it was downhill from there. It was nice to finally finish class. I miss a lot of my classmates because we bonded and became like a family.

2 weeks ago I started working at headquarters. I did a ride along my first day which is cool. They make me wear a bullet proof vest when I go out. Then for the next 8 work days I was on a auto-theft detail. For the most part it was boring. I spent all day scanning the parking lot looking for car thieves/people breaking into cars. If I saw something suspicious, I would call it into my backup, and depending on situation, he would check it out. It was good training in observational skills and radio protocol. I learned what to/not to look for. It's funny, but when I'm out of work, I look at the things the same way. Good practice for being a police officer. On my last day, we finally caught one of the guys we were looking for.

One thing I did during this time was I tried to keep track of all the cars that came in/ left the lot. Well that day I noticed a car that I didn't remember pulling in. When I looked further, I noticed a guy go into a truck, sit there for a while, and then come out with a square shaped object/ After he put it into his car, I saw him break into another car. Soon after that, the detective I was working with, arrested the guy. It was neat experience. Everyone on the detail was pumped. The Chief even came out and congratulated me. He said it was a good way to start my career.

That was last Thursday. Friday, I went to a test review at the Police Academy. After that, I had lunch with my dad and spent the rest of my time studying. This week I'm doing more ride alongs. Wednesday and Friday I'll spend my whole shift studying. I'll take my final test on Friday, June 22nd. Pray that I pass it. I shouldn't have difficulty with it, Lord willing. As soon as I receive the results of the test, I'll be sworn in as a certified police officer. Can't wait.

Aside from all that, life is good. Wife and kids are doing well. There is an adjustment period for the family as I'll be working a different shift. Missy has started to reach out to a young mom that lives across the street. We're praying that maybe it turns into a chance to reach out to our neighbors. Softball season has started, but I won't be able to play because of work.

  • Joey's back home now. He actually came home Friday evening. The doctors think that a combination of the fever and croup caused the seizures. After having his fever go up and down the past couple days, Joey is finally starting to get better. Alexis is starting to come down with the fever and a cough. We gave her medicine last night, and hear fever appeared to have dropped throughout the night. Keep praying.

  • Pray for Joey, he's sick. He had a fever all day yesterday, and he had been coughing as well. While we were watching tv last night, he had 2 seizures. Missy called 911, and I went to the hospital with him. Missy spent the night with Joey, and here I am this morning. The seizures were probably a result of croup, which they think he has. Pray for Missy and Joey. Missy called me this morning and barely slept at all last night.
