| | You know you're getting old when you spend your extra money on.... dishes.
We had the opportunity to buy two tickets to see Eddie Izzard tomorrow night at the Orpheum. We love his comedy (and watch his show on FX every week), but the $150 price tag was a bit high for a couple hours of stand up. So we passed.
A few hours later, we were watching a commercial on TV for Corelle dishes. There's a new Ultra brand that offers a five year "break and chip" warranty. The commercial shows a woman walking down a runway, sliding on some grease and dropping a plate on the floor.... without a crack.
Scott watched the commercial and said, "That's what we need. Our dishes look like crap." (Keep in mind, these are the casual dishes we received for our WEDDING in AUGUST.)
Here they are in pristine condition:
Unfortunately, eight months later, every single piece is chipped and they look HORRIBLE. White on brown was never so glaring.
So what did we do? We spent $150 on new dishes, with no regrets.

Yep.... we're old!
In other news, I had my first golf lesson today with Noel. We had a good time, although the boys (Scott and Manny) were laughing at us from the driving range. The correct grip on a golf club is tough for me to get used to, and I'm still tempted to use both my arms for power (instead of just my left). We'll see; there are four more lessons, then the guys will take us out onto a course and let us strut our stuff. I'm looking forward to it, and it's nice to have something else in common with Scott.
And secretly, I'm hoping I can use this whole "golf thing" to convince him to take more exotic vacations, under the pretense of going golfing. For some reason, you say the G-word and his wallet opens magically; I'm sure there are beautiful golf courses in St. Croix or Aruba, right?
Our friends Eric and Heather got engaged last week, so hopefully we'll have another wedding to attend next summer. I'm happy for them; they're a great couple, and Eric (who went to Clark with Scott) really needed to meet a good woman. I'm happy he found Heather (who went to high school with me). Kind of a weird coincidence, but not really, since Eric is also from the North Shore.

In work news, my first deposition is on Wednesday. I'm a bit nervous, but I've seen enough of them that I think I'll do okay. Should be interesting, because apparently the deponent is a huge bitch (at least, according to our client). So we'll see how that goes.
I'm not really good at being aggressive to people I don't know, but if she gives me attitude, I'll be sure to give it back. :) |
