| new look feels like microsoft 2007Where's the blog page? How do I make a new entry? Why is the front page loading my profile instead of the weblog? All this take time to get used to...meanwhile, I'm pining away for the familiar way of doing things. It's like someone has moved stuff around my desk while I was away. All of a sudden, I get this discomfiting feeling at the pit of my stomach that tells me I am very uncomfortable. Show me all that I was familiar with...I just want the old stuff back.
But then life goes on and those that don't update frequently deserve to be caught in the dark (like me). Tonight, my youngest told me that she was going to check out the new look of xanga. That piqued my curiousity. Hmmmm...
Last weekend, we drove to Gibraltar and Seville. Walked in the pouring rain of the British piece of the rock and ate tapas in the town of La Linea. The very next day, because of gale force winds, we didn't make the crossing across the strait to Tangier. Instead, we drove back north to Seville and watch Flamenco at the Palacio Andaluz in the evening. On Monday morning, we walked around the old town center of Seville, gaped at the Cathedral, and enjoyed hot soup at the only Chinese restaurant in the Santa Cruz neighborhood. After lunch, we drove back to Lisbon, pelted by rain most of the way.
Today, we went to a party in Azenhas do Mar. How lucky we were to be invited by a friend who lives in one of the cliffside homes in the most picturesque sea village in Portugal. And today is my birthday too :)

| Today was our carnaval/mardi gras party. Cajun gumbo, jambalaya, moist cornbread, crackers, tri-color King's Cake, and tiger shrimp boil. Folks came in costumes. Music to dance to. It was most memorable.

| I'm back in Portugal and it's good to be back.
The flight from LAX was uneventful despite the windy rainy weather that poured down California over the weekend. However, I am thankful that the plane didn't experience much turbulence from LAX to Heathrow and then agai n smooth skies on the way to Lisbon.
I continue to savor the memory of the six mile walk along the beach from oceanside pier towards Carlsbad on Friday morning, finding the perfect sand dollar which I gave to someone picking up shells near the surf and eating Colima's surf and turf burrito after the walk.
A belated Happy New Year Greetings to all!

| The whole family is together this Christmas. We left Portugal on Sunday and flew an uneventful 14 hours from Lisbon to Frankfurt to Los Angeles. Upon arrival at LAX on Sunday night, I spent the evening with Claire and on Monday, we shopped around Westwood then were reunited with spouse and our eldest daughter Emily. Life is good when I remember to slow down due to the 8 hour difference. Weather is perfect. Being all together here in sunny southern california is wonderful.
