Hmm, have I updated since we came to Hawaii?
    I don't think I have!

Well, I am super sleepy, but I will write a teensy update, to well, update you.
We are nearing the end of our first week here in Hilo.  We arrived on Monday afternoon, got a tour of the corps, the thrift store and went out for dinner with some corps people.  I am impressed with the people at the corps - they are so focused on ministry and take pride in what they do...it's very refreshing.
Tuesday we helped package some school supplies and then spent the afternoon trying to get oriented and then slept....the time difference, while it's only 3 hours, is a doozy for me.  However, I have been sleeping very well here...it's great to fall asleep to the sound of frogs and other assorted forest noises coming from our backyard.
Wednesday was our first official office day- which was admittedly a bit overwhelming, as I have a lot to learn - but at the same time exciting for what lies ahead!
Thursday we woke up super early and flew to Honolulu to meet at DHQ for our new officer orientation, which was also good and helpful.  We ate at the Waioli Tea Room, which I liked!  We got a lot of information and it was nice to tour and meet all the people that will be so helpful to us, as well as seeing familiar faces and places from last year's summer assignment at Leeward.
Friday we flew back to Hilo with the DSB and DSP and toured our Family Intervention Services program - which is huge and really cool, we look forward to working with them in the future!
Today we went to the Farmer's Market and I look forward to frequenting that to really get into eating local fruit and vegetables.  While I LOVE fruit, I haven't really super loved the tropical variety of fruits and there are so many I have never tried...so I want to try them all now!  I quite like the lychees, and have a bag of them from our office administrator's back yard!  Today we also went to Kiluea Volcano National Park (got an annual pass, so come on over!!) and saw the steam vents and craters, also walked through the lava tube.  Then we drove to where the lava goes into the ocean and was exploding (I totally blanked on the actual name), but it was amazing.  You could see the steam and lava rocks shooting in the air, and as the heat was over the water it caused water spouts - really, a sight to see...come on and check it out!  Apparently, it's way better at night because you can see the glow of the lava - so we have a box of flashlights and will go there again soon!

So tomorrow is our first Sunday - Craig is preaching, go for it!  We are being "installed" and then having a pot luck....looking forward to that!  Monday we start getting healthy...have to sign up for the Wellness program, and there is a YWCA near the corps, so I will look into Aquafit or something.

So this was not really in-depth, but an overview - hope you don't mind.
We are getting settled and oriented by the day and are looking forward to the ministry for us here.
I still can't believe I live in Hawaii...this little Canadian girl from the Steel City didn't think she would ever visit Hollywood let alone Hawaii....it's nice!

    Mr. Darcy's Diary

    Review

    So some more reviews.
    You are lucky.
(Can I even call them reviews?  Oh well!)

Now that I am done with school (for now) I have the freedom and time (for now) to read what I would choose!
    It's been a while.
So, in honour of my new-found Jane Austen/Mr. Darcy fixation, I read two books on this subject.
Now, keep in mind, I wanted light "summer" reading...nothing of consequence, really.

So the first one I completed was The Man Who Loved Jane Austen by Sally Smith O'Rourke.
If I was looking for a senseless, fantastical, sorta romance, well then I got it.  It seemed really promising as a "thinking woman's" fluff book (if there is such a thing)...the heroine finds letters from fictional Mr. Darcy to actual Jane Austen and works to find out if Mr. Darcy was in fact a real person.  It just gets ludicrous from there.  Let's just say there is time travel involved...and I usually all for fantasy and suspended belief...but this was more like a lame plot move.  So to sum up (I don't want to spoil ALL of it) - it was fun to read, albeit a bit too fluffy, and I wanted to know what was going to happen...but it didn't really make me feel any smarter or more enlightened.  I am glad I didn't buy it...I thought it was going to be more along the lines of the "Becoming Jane" movie (which I actually haven't seen).  So yeah, it wasn't bad.  End Review.

Next, I read Mr Darcy's Diary by Amanda Grange.  This was much better.  While it was meant to be in diary form, I didn't see it like that as the narratives were often long and I found myself thinking "no one would write all this in their diary, verbatim conversations?!"  However, it was a good insight to Pride and Prejudice (which I must admit I haven't read all of...shh!  I am going to now, though!).  It is P&P story from the point of view of Mr. Darcy rather than Elizabeth.  I found it to be well-done and I felt connected to the character.  In this book, I found the "thinking fluff" that I was looking for.  I feel as if I have done it all backwards by watching the recent movie, then the A&E miniseries (which is the best!), then reading this book and THEN reading P&P...but if I can forgive my own gauche behaviour, I am sure you can, too!   In sum, this was a much better book and a good read, for a "chick" book and a historical one as well.  End Review.

Hmm, we have watched some movies recently that I could review as well...but I have typed enough!

Hmm...a quick update, but whose benefit is this for?
    Me?  You?  Cyberspace?
I am considering making a photoblog or a new "I'm a Lieutenant" now blog...but that's all in my head still.  I just feel kind of stuck with this one, if that makes sense....

I have things to update, but I don't feel like it, to be honest.  Do you really need to know it all?  Those that care already now.
I will say that we are home from the Western Bible Conference now.  While I wish I could've sat in on more meetings, I am thankful to have sat in on two.  Also, the childcare was far less painful for me than anticipated (I am not so shy about the fact that babies aren't really my "thing" - let's just say Craig is the maternal one in this relationship ).
All of our stuff is shipped and on its way to Hilo.  On Monday we will be on our way, too! It's weird, really.  I don't know...being Corps Officers....responsible....wow.  We met two corps members at WBC, which was really great!  For this week we are kind of spinning our wheels - just have to clean and finally pack up and what-not.

So what else?  Hmm...lots I suppose.  My big sister is engaged, so that is very good!  Yay Krista!   I am eager to get to Canada...I have admittedly been rather homesick, especially since we are now moving even farther away - however, that is the life I have dedicated myself to, and "such is the mango!"    We listened to a lot of Stuart McLean on the way home from WBC (a radio show from Canada) and it made me so Canada-sick!

    Oh, movie reviews.
    In brief.

Wall-E: not at all what I was expecting and I am glad to have seen it.  Very cute and well done.  I was surprised to see "humans" in it, and was worried it would get too "preachy" - however, the story of Wall-E and Eve far outweighed that storyline for me.  I think smaller kids might be bored as there isn't a lot of talking, but the visuals are great and the story is sweet....I could have even shed a tear!

Hancock:  I love action movies - especially Will Smith action movies!  I was worried after reading reviews and things, but I liked it.  Not the best movie ever, but it was fun and I was engaged....and I still like Will Smith!

    So that is all.
Now off to watch "The Mummy" - I look forward to the new one coming out, so I am just catching up on the old ones.

Find me on Facebook - I am more active there...with pictures, to boot!

Rumour has it, the Summerfields are moving to Hawaii.

    Well, guess what?
    It's true!

    Dude.

So yeah, the newly commissioned Lieutenants Summerfield will be the Corps Officers of the Hilo Temple Corps.
    Sweet!

I survived the weekend, barely.  Really, I don't recall being so exhausted mentally, emotionally, etc....okay, I do, but this time was harsh.  Going outside after the appointment service was intense...there were so many people hugging me, giving advice, and taking pictures.  I appreicate all the love - but I can barely remember any of it!  I was essentially a deer in the headlights.

Anyway, it's been neat as we talk and learn more about Hilo and the corps.  It's a trip when we say stuff, "we have..." or "our corps..." and stuff.  Exciting!

So I really don't want to type more.
    I am way tired.
My family is here - and today we spent the day at Knott's, which incidentally, is a good place for young kids - I had fun at Camp Snoopy with my nieces.

So much to say - but lacking brain cells and motivation.
    Must.
    Pack.
    But.
    Sleep.
    Better.

I will post some pics on Facebook.

SPOILER ALERT - Indiana Jones, don't read if you don't want to know stuff...

Okay, it's about time for a movie review.
    This one is ripe.
Please keep in mind, this is just my opinion....and it's my blog...so there.

Let me get some stuff straight, first.
I love action movies.  I love far-fetched movies (done well).  I love adventure movies.  I love Harrison Ford movies.  I love archaeology movies.  I love Indiana Jones movies....

...I DID NOT love the new Indiana Jones movie.

    Sorry.
    It was lame.

I really wanted to like it.  I was excited going in.  I was eager to see what was going to happen.  I knew that it had to be good, so it wasn't like I was wanting it to fail...I wanted to like it.
    I couldn't.
Sure, it was entertaining....but...not an Indiana Jones movie.
I don't know what's up with Harrison Ford, but his acting chops need some fine-tuning.  Cate Blanchett's accent was lame.
I thought John Hurt was the best in the movie as the crazy professor.  (oh, and Jim Broadbent)
I also liked how they payed tribute to Marcus Brody, whom I always enjoyed.
    However -
The minute they opened up the crate with Area 51 stuff and they showed the little alien hand....that's when it went downhill.
Again...I tried, and tried to like it.
    But really.
    Aliens?!
    UFOs?!
I should have gone to see Close Encounters.

And what was with the monkeys?  Shia LaBoeuf as Tarzan?  Uh....
And those CGI gophers??  I don't like unnecessary CGI.  That's just me.
I told Craig that I believe a man's face melting off or a dude ripping another's heart out...but I don't believe a 65yr+ guy hiding in a fridge and surviving a nuclear blast.
    So, to sum up.
It didn't suck, but it was not, in my opinion, and Indiana Jones movie....
    Do not pay full price.
    Netflix it.
Or just go watch National Treasure 2, which was still better than this (even with Nick Cage's wig).
    End review.

    So here's an update.
    Or something like that.

I've been lacking in the xanga department lately.  Sorry guys, just not "feeling" it.  I have been on Facebook a lot - if you really want to chat and connect, probably find me there (playing Word Twist...hehe).
So yeah, just have not been up to writing stuff.
Things are super winding down class-wise and winding up commissioning-wise.
There's a lot on my mind.
I have crazy dreams every night.  Weird ones, travelling ones, stressed out ones...random ones.
I want to sleep a lot - but that's nothing new.

So here I am.  Something like 5 days of classes left and 16 days until Commissioning...how can that be?  Our 100 Day was like last week!?!
I am speaking at commencement.  I didn't really want to talk about it because I didn't want to get stressed about it - but I finished my speech, so now I can bring it up! I hope to represent our session well.

My family will be here 2 weeks today.  Huzzah!  Guys, get ready to grub because apparently the only plans I have made is to go to restaurants (really, we have to take advantage of all the places that aren't in Canada!).

So that might be it for now.
I guess my previous post was another empty promise...I will get back to it, perhaps.

Going to see Indy next week.  Really want to see Iron Man this week...hint, hint Craig.
Some other cool ones coming out - I am moderately intrigued by the new M. Night Shamalamadingdong movie and Get Smart.

    That's all for now.
Gotta do some homework.  No assignments over 3 pages left for me to do!! (as far as I recall...)

    Later,
