Name: Ben and Amy Country: Mexico Metro: Guadalajara
Interests: Bienvenidos to the official Meyer family blog site which we are not so great at keeping up with! Sorry! For those of you who are reading from North America--we miss you and hope to stay somewhat more connected with you through this route, e-mail and visits hopefully! For our Guadalajara friends we thank God that we are able to share more of our day to day joys with you here in this great country. Maybe you will see yourself occasionally appear in this blog!
Ben continues his search for adventure and has satisfied part of it with mountain biking. In a normal week he bikes three mornings a week in the mountains near our home! He went on a biking trip to Puerto Vallarta in December (see pics) with his friend Larry and is now looking forward to a church planting conference in Nicaragua in April so that he can catch up with some friends there and maybe scuba dive near the Corn Islands.
I (Amy) am mostly home absorbed right now. I'm Expertise: We are both Calvin College graduates (Grand Rapids, MI) where Ben studied business and Spanish. Amy focused on second education with an emphasis on science and English. After spending two years in Nicaragua as missionaries right after college Ben went to Calvin Seminary for his Master of Divinity degree and was ordained as a minister in the Christian Reformed Church. During the same time Amy began working on her Master of Education degree with an emphasis on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She has one more class to go in order to finish, and hopefully that will happen in 2009. Occupation: Missionaries Industry: Ministry

| 4 MONTHS WORTH OF PICTURESHi friends and family! Sorry for the long lack of time in writing and updating. We've been unbelievably busy around here. Hopefully this summer we'll buy a computer for home school and then I'll have more chances to write as well rather than just when Ben is away. Ben had meetings this morning so I thought I'd take the opportunity to catch up while having the boys do a few other school-related activities. Our computer is super slow and it takes a long time to upload the photos. We hope you enjoy seeing the pictures I'm sending now beginning at just prior to our trip to Gracie's birthday tea party. gettting caught up a bit though in our lives.
Perhaps on Friday (Ben's day off) we'll send more pictures of our trip to Merida and Isla Mujeres (near Cancun) and Ben can fill you all in on his trip to Nicaragua.

| You know what they say, when the cat's away the mouse will play.As most of my close friends and family know, I completely surprised Ben while he was in Nicaragua by redoing his office. To my credit, it was a project that he had wanted to do someday, it's just that he knew it would be a big one and take a while. So I thought I'd surprise him by completing it while the cat was gone! His office had become a catch all for strollers, bikes, sports gear and other "goodies" and I wanted to give him a really tranquil place to work so the following three photos are of the redo. This is the only photo I can find right now of the office BEFORE! Sorry, you can only see the shelves... but Gracie's cute showing off her necklaces!
What I did: stained and put a mate varnish over 2 desks and 2 shelves took out a gross dirty heavily stained carpet cleaned the floor taking away the tack and the glue left from the carpet new pictures, containers etc to add to decor installed new curtains added the cute bench so I can come and talk to Ben while he works :)
Side note: my househelper actually helped a lot which I paid her more for :) which allowed me to still have regular home school time with John and Luke!
P.S. One night I went to bed early because I was completely exhausted and Grace who was up still reading awoke me to say that it was raining profusely outside. This was not good since I had the BIG shelves and all of the drawers out on the back porch. So....I ran downstairs feeling like God was punishing me for taking on this surprise project and carried/dragged in everything slipping on the tile the whole time only to have the rain stop 10 minutes later!

| OFFICE #1Here's a view from the door you enter. I bought a Mexico map which I framed and hung above his desk. I also framed 2 of his diplomas which was something he had wanted done. He'd like a frame yet for his ordination so that will come later :)

| OFFICE #2The office was about 2 " too small for a couple of the configuations I had hoped to try so this is how it ended up. I needed to keep all of the furniture that existed since Ben was using it all and yet try to add warmth, space and aesthetic beauty so that he could enjoyably complete his work tasks. I plan to add a ceiling fan and put a glass top over the desks out of my gift money for him yet to complete the job.

| OFFICE #3Here you can see Ben's 2nd desk and the collage of notes we all wrote and put together as a welcome back gift to Ben!
