| Its been hot and humid this week and we have had several storm systems move through. The worst was last night when it stormed for about five straight hours. We got a lot of rain and we are under a flood warning which doesn't affect us too much as we are not near a river. We are supposed to get more storms later this afternoon and evening. Nathanael is done with little league season for another year. His team went 1-10 which is pretty bad. It was a disappointing year. After the last game yesterday the team had a pool and pizza party which seemed to cheer the kids up. Its nice having Matthew home for the summer. He is busy with work and taking a science class at the community college near here. He had friends from college spend the weekend but they both left earlier this morning to return to their homes. We don't have any plans for the summer. It will just be the usual of canning, freezing, jam making and salsa making as the different fruits and vegetables come into season.

| Matthew just left to return to Hillsdale after being home for a week for spring break. It was nice having him home again. I am glad that spring break coincided with Easter weekend. I think he got lots of studying done and he was able to sleep in, take naps and eat lots of my home cooking. Our winter has been long. We are at our third snowiest winter on record but if we get two tenths of an inch we will edge into second place. As they are predicting one to two inches of snow tonight I think we just may get into that second place spot. It got down to 15 last night so we are also still below normal for temperatures. This is funny because all the meteorologists in the area predicted a warmer and drier than normal winter. They all said we would get about 63-65 inches of snow and we have had 105 inches so far. I think meteorologists have the one job where they can consistently be wrong and still keep their jobs. Must be nice. I continue to knit as much as possible. I made an afghan for my nephew who got married last week and now I am working on another one for my niece who is getting married in August. I hope everyone else is enjoying spring. I am confident it will eventually arrive in Michigan.

| Its pretty pathetic that I haven't posted since just before Thanksgiving. The holidays were nice. We never do anything too busy or extravagant. It was wonderful having Matthew home for a month at Christmas time. On December 31 he turned 21 which was a little nerve racking for me but he was responsible or at least that is what all his friends told me. He is back at college and enjoying himself. He is at a debate tournament in Indianapolis this weekend. We have had snow on and off again with some warm ups in between to melt the snow. This weekend however is a different story. It started snowing around four yesterday afternoon and we got about six inches. It is 10 degrees out right now and that is our high for the day. The wind chills are below zero. They are predicting a warm up for next week though with temps in the low 20's! I have a brown sugar pound cake in the oven right now. I thought it would be nice to have the oven going to try and heat up the kitchen a little and besides the smell is heavenly. I also thought we should be putting on extra calories right now in case we need to go into hibernation. I think this cake has about 800 calories per slice and that is not an exaggeration! Hannah is busy getting ready for a piano competition on March 1. She has to learn three pieces so she is learning The Music Box Dancer, Moonlight Sonata and Canon D. She also will be tested on scales and she will be given both a written an an oral test. It takes at least two hours to complete the competition. She doesn't seem nervous at this point. Its something her music teacher thought she should try even though she has only been taking lessons for 2 1/2 years.

| HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! We have so much to be thankful for don't we? We just got home from church where we were reminded that being thankful is a choice and we need to make it every day. We also need to learn to cast all our worries, anxieties and frustrations on God and allow His peace to fill us. I have to bring the desserts to my families dinner today. I made two pumpkin pies, two pecan pies, a chocolate cake and an apple cheesecake yesterday. As I was taking the cheesecake out of the oven I suddenly remember that I had forgotten a key ingredient. I was supposed to add 2/3 cup of heavy whipping cream and I didn't do that. I have never made this recipe before so I am just a little concerned about the taste. I am still going to bring it anyway as it looks beautiful and smells great. I still have to drizzle a cup of caramel sauce over it so how bad can it be? I hope everyone has a blessed day.

| Its time to post again as it has been way too long since the last entry. Michael is once again trying to help me put pictures on here. The kids had fun carving pumpkins yesterday. They had lots of help from Michael because it is not something I have ever been fond of doing. It was a picture perfect day for sitting outside and doing the carving. That way I didn't have the mess inside!
