  • Wow I have forgotten the world of xanga for such a long long time! I never was a really great blogger lol. Anway I'm still here after months and months.

Plans changed ALOT from one college to the next....

Well I now live in Florida I moved here this past month and am going to school down here. Right now my major is nursing and eventually midwifery, I'm living in an awesome apartment complex and I have 3 really great room mates and I am loving life here in Gainesville, Florida :)

I have no clue where I will be in the next year I dont know if I plan on staying in Florida or moving back to Maine or moving to someplace like Texas, or California or somewhere totally random and crazy? I'm going to apply to many different nursing schools in many different states and we will see where I end up :)

As much as I would like to be predictable every plan I've had so far for the past few years has always ended up changing so I've decided I'm going to attempt not making any more plans though I know that will happen regardless ahah.

And I probably wont be on xanga again for a while I was just checking in for the heck of it!

  • It's been a while...

    Some new news:

I am now an official DONA trained Doula :) I have been EXTREMElY busy lately and have so much more to do!

A couple weekends ago I visited Shiloh Farm. I stayed for the weekend and learned a lot about living communally and learned about a few different chrisitian groups. It was a great experience!

Next week I'll be gone to Canada with my best friend, we go every memorial week, it's a tradition I suppose.

When I get back I'll have my official High school graduation. Even though I've already "graduated" months ago.

I finished my college classes the first week of May.

Then the day following graduation I'll be going to Mass. for our class trip.

I bought tickets to the Three Doors Down concert :)

I'm going Skydiving and white water rafting in July.

And I'm going to Soulfest in New Hampshire, it's a christian concert event every year, lots of people, great music and fellowship, tons of memories and camping are sure to be found.

This is only a bit of what I will be doing this summer....

  • She is back!

    And she brought home pictures!!

So Mom got home last night around 8:00; the same time I was getting out of work. She waited for me to get home before she looked through all the pictures :) It was great, I'm not going to go into a whole lot of detail about her trip, but it was great. They had many opportunities to venture the country this trip. They got to ride horses up a 7 mile high mountain to the top of the famous Citadel, and have guided tour of the castels. They were able to drive to the border of Haiti and I think the city was called wanna-me in the Dominican and they got to see the ocean surrounded by mountains.

The team that went on this trip was smaller than usual I think there was only about 6 people, but working with His Hands For Haiti child sponosorship program they processed a record number of children last trip 671 kids this trip 673 kids :)!

And guess what not only am I a Godmother, but in about 7 months Mom will be too! Our friend Jackson's sister is pregnant and when the baby is born she wants Mom to be it's Godmother :)

There's Mom's God baby inside that belly right there ^

Now as for my God-baby his name is really Djorkens lol I was close ;) over the phone, it sounded like Djordens. He is a little porker which is a good thing, especially in Haiti.

Djorkens :) He looks like his mommy!

There was a little girl that I met on my last trip to Haiti in Novemember...her name is Rose. She really needs our prayers. I believe she is eight years old. When I met her she looked like she was 7 months pregnant! Her stomach was severly swollen. Upon further questioning and prying we found out that she was born with a genital deformity in which she has no anus, and elimantes feces through her vagina. It was a very sad situation, doctors can't believe she has lived this long the way she is. Her intestines would frequently become blocked. Other children made fun of her and she's very self concious and embarrassed of her condition. HHFH and out team came up with the money to allow her to have reconstructive surgery. On this recent trip in April Mom and the team went to see her in the hospital. She is hooked up to an IV, and confined to a bed. She has a very high fever and has a bad infection; nobody knows if she will live :(

I'm asking everybody to please pray for this sweet little girl named Rose

There are so many people and children in Haiti that need our prayers many like rose that need surgery, thousands that are hungry, orphans, abandoned children, mothers and fathers that work all day making about $1 for all their hard work and trying to feed all of their children. Meanwhile in the past two weeks the prices of rice and beans has gone up from $160 Haitian Dollars(HD) to $260HD (for a 50lb bag), and nobody can even afford to EAT!

    Haiti needs our prayers.

My sweet little Pamica doesn't look like she is doing well.

    Pamica now :(

From what we can tell it seems their family can no longer afford their home and they had to move in with another family. Mom went to their old house and it was vacant and borded up. I'm sure like all the other families that are struggling the rise in prices of food and lack of work is having a huge impact. I don't know what I'm going to do, but I'm going to try and contact the family and see how I can help. I may not be able to feed every child in Haiti, but I know I can make a small difference by feeding this family.

Haiti seems to be pulling on my heart harder and harder everyday! I'm staying open and trying to listen and figure out how I am supposed to help. As soon as I graduate from midwifery school I hope to move to Haiti as a missionary midwife. The women need knowledge they need to be taught about nutrition and how to care for themselves prenataly and postpartum. But how can they eat proper if they can't even afford a cup of rice?

I don't think that most people realize that they CAN help. It doesn't take a special person, a rich person, or a missionary to help. Anyone can help Haiti! You don't even have to commit to monthly donations, but the few extra dollars or change in your pocket could mean one meal for a child in Haiti. Find ways to get involved, it really is that simple.

I just wish people realized how desperate Haiti really is...don't you see it?

  • Hurray!

Last October when I was in Haiti I had the opportunity to meet a couple pregnant women at the clinic. I was able to practice using my fetal doppler. It was so exciting to see the womens faces light up hearing their babies heart beat for the first time. I had some baby clothes, recieving blankets, and baby hats which I gave as gifts to these ladies. One of the ladies actually worked at the clinic and we were able to talk a little throughout the day, we ended up exchanging cell numbers and when I left I randomly told her to call me and say "The babies here!" She was about 30 weeks along at the time. A couple months went by and I had settled into my daily life back at home.  On December 23 I received a phone call "Alo, Alo, is this Shayla?" The connection wasn't the greatest and I could hardly understand this person calling me, thinking it was a telemarketer I almost hung up the phone. Until I recognized what he was saying. The baby was born! I couldn't believe they actually called me :) This person was a random friend of theirs calling me, because they do not speak English in Haiti obviously but they got the message relayed to me. I had completely forgotten I even told them to call.

Well the exciting news is I heard from Mom yesterday, she is still in Haiti and is doing well. She was borrowing someones cell phone because her's won't work in Haiti...anyway we only talked for about 30 seconds cause the minutes were almost gone on that phone. BUT she was able to tell me that she got to see the family with this baby she got pictures and they told her that they want me to be the babies Godmother! I was so happy! I didn't even get to ask any questions, but I will find out more when Mom gets home next week.

    I'm a Godmother <3 <3 <3

About Me

  • I aspire to be a wife and mother someday in the near future hopefully God leads me in that direction sooner than later! So here I wait for "him" to find me, I know God will send me the perfect guy all in his own timing! I'm becoming a midwife. It is my passion and will always be a part of me. I am a christian girl trying to follow God's plan for my life! I'm on a journey in which I'm growing closer to the Lord, and trusting him in everything that I do! I'm just living life day to day; allowing the Lord to have all the control and do with my life as he pleases! And doing a little dreaming on the side :) I've been accepted to a midwifery school here in Maine called Birthwise Midwifery School. At first I wasn't sure I that's where I wanted to be, but everything fell into place so perfect. After visiting the school and meeting the students and midwives I fell in love with it! It all seems so right, God's plan has been unfolding right in front of my eyes, even when I'm unaware.
