  • Paula Prentiss stops by the MIKE-FM Morning Show

We were doing the show this morning when Tim and I noticed a familiar-looking woman in the AM station's studio next to us.  Could it be?  Nah, we first thought.  Then Tim and I Googled, and sure enough... Hollywood legend Paula Prentiss was in the building with her daughter Prentiss Benjamin.  All of Paula's movies..."What's New Pussycat" with Peter Sellers, "The Stepford Wives", "Catch-22", "Where The Boys Are", "Move" with Elliot Gould.... and TV as well!  I remember her on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and that '60s ABC sit-com "He Said, She Said" with her husband actor/drietor Richard Benjamin.  Turns out she and her daughter Prentiss are in Lansing to do a stage presentation of George Bernard Shaw's "Mrs. Warren's Profession" and the Boar's Head Theater.  I snagged her from the AM studio and got her over to MIKE-FM for an impromptu interview 'on-the-fly'.  Listen to the interview below!

Common Ground 2007 in Lansing was awesome!  Tons of great acts, food and fun!!!  The MIKE-FM night featured the Motor City's own Marshall Crenshaw and The Romantics opening for Starship.  The Romantics still ROCK THE HOUSE!!!

  • No, I'm not dead (so I don't need a Memorial)!

Actually I've been so daggone busy I haven't been able to post on this thing.  So, to stop being the slacker, here I go!

Things at MIKE-FM have been hopping!  When I started on the morning show there, we were #7 in the market.  Right now according to the numbers we are #2!  (#1 here we come!)  And I've been rewarded (or punished, depending on your definition) with a promotion - Creative Services Director.  Time to make the promos, imaging, and all them there things.

Coming up in about a month - Common Ground!  Lots of great artists and fun for 8 days at Riverfront Park in Lansing.  Tim is once again the master of ceremonies for the festival, so I'm sure I'll be there to help out and do the artist schmooze thing.  Plus in July I'll be doing a remote from Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant.  Ought to be fun - I promise not to gamble away the appearance fee.

  • Megan Soroka - 1957-2007

I know I haven't posted in awhile (been super busy and all at the station).  Yet when I first read the story off the wire on Wednesday about the workers that were stabbed to death at Detroit Red Wing Chris Chelios' bar in Detroit, I had to post something.  When I first read the story, I thought of my high school classmate Megan Soroka who works there - who I last spoke to at our high school reunion a little over a year ago.  Then came the news that Megan was one of the victims.  So sad!  She was a wonderful person - so happy and full of life.  She was always willing to help out - she helped us put together the golf outing at our last class reunion.  I placed a memorial on the home page of our high school class website - http://www.DHSClassOf1975.com.

My thoughts and prayers to the family, friends, co-workers and other classmates who were touched by her life.

  • This week's Mornings with Tim Barron

Well, another busy and fun week with the MIKE-FM Morning show.  Tim finally got his chair back - making him one happy camper!  And a good thing too, because we had a lot to do!

    TIM GETS BACK HIS CHAIR!

This week we had two contests/giveaways.  We started a new contest called "MIKE'S Home Town Trivia" where Tim gives a clue about a Lansing landmark and the first caller to guess the landmark gets dinner for two at the Golden Rose.  Also we're giving away passes to the sneak peek Thursday 11/16 of the new animated feature "Happy Feet" at the Celebration Cinema's IMAX 3-D theatre (B, the kids and I are going - it'll be cool!  The kids are soooo geeked to get to see it!!!).  Next week we start the "Secret MIKE" contest where we give clues to where listeners can find our "Secret MIKE" in the crowd at the Silver Bells Parade in Lansing next Friday 11/17.  First listner to find the "Secret MIKE" wins $1,000!

Also this week we had phone-in interviews with Joan Collins (of Dynasty fame) and Chip Taylor (a.k.a. Voigt as in Jon Voigt's brother - the writer of the song "Wild Thing" done by the Troggs).  Joan is coming to town next week with Linda Evans to star in the play "Legends" at the Wharton Center. (Linda is calling in to the show this coming Monday 11/13).

Well, 've gotta go.  Another busy weekend at the Holder ponderosa.  I'll check in next weekwith updates on the Happy Feet sneak peek and the Silver Bells parade.  Ciao for now!

  • Oh, my God... they're everywhere!!!

I decided to take a drive after work yesterday and go 'billboard hunting'.  The station has started an agressive promo campaign of the new morning show and had put up nearly 50 billboards around the greater Lansing area.  So I went hunting.  I found 12 in my quest.  The one above was on Dunkel Rd. near US 127 (right next to a Sunoco/Dunkin' Donuts).  They're great!  And they've been doing the job as well!!  The phone lines are ringing like crazy during the show - people talking to Tim and I (mostly Tim) saying they're glad to know where they can find the morning show on the dial now.

  • Havin' Fun in the AM/Still love the AL Champ Tigers!

Well, things are progressing nicely on the MIKE-FM Morning Show with Tim Barron.  We are really clicking together on the air and have already started doing wacky things around the station.  The other day, after a frosty night, the sun began warming the leaves on the trees in back of the station and they began to fall of the tree 'en masse'!  This totally freaked out Tim, since he had never seen this phenominon before (though I have experienced it myself several times in the past)!  So I tell him, "If you think the sight is awesome, you should check out the sound it makes!".  So, Tim preceded to go out back and stand under one of the trees, grinning from ear to ear and shaking low branches to speed up the process.  The station owner just happened to glance out his office window at that moment to witness Tim shaking the tree.  Hilarious!!!  Wish I had gotten a picture - it was a sight to see!  I'm going to start taking my camera to work with me every day to capture future 'moments'!

And, then, my Tigers.  Yes, I'm sad they couldn't duplicate 1968 against the St. Louis Cardinals.  But I'm still proud of how far they had come!  Yes, our youthful inexperience showed in the World Series, but they are still a talented bunch and Jim Leleand did a supurb job managing a team to go as far as they did after having the worst record in baseball a couple years ago.  I can't wait until April 2007 to see what the Tigers can do now with that World Series experience under their belt.  I'm sure they're hungry now to win next year!!!

  • MY LONG AWAITED RETURN TO THE AIRWAVES!!!

Well, Eric isn't the only old WCM alum to get back in the saddle again.  After over 10 years of being, as the say in the radio biz, 'on the beach', I am FINALLY BACK!  I started this past Thursday at WHZZ-FM Lansing - "The All New 101.7 MIKE FM".  I am starting out behind the scenes - learning the ropes and getting acclimated on  the on-air studio computers to take over as producer/'co-host' of the Tim Barron Morning Show.  I should be fully ready to hit the 'waves'  this next week or so (whenever the boss says he's ready to make the switch to me).

Unlike Eric, we are streamed on the Internet.  All you have to do is visit the MIKE FM home page, click the sign, and you're streaming us!

Just a simple comment : MIKE HOLDER for president, has a nice ring to it "President Holder" A man with these values and just honest commitment to all he does would make a great leader! Something to think about for the next election.
