| DC is a very navigable city, I think this is a point upon which we can all agree. Letters and numbers with the occassional intersecting diagonal street, but nothing complex enough to really throw you off. If you know where you're going, then getting there should, all things considered, be relatively straightforward and easy. Unfortunately, some of us, well me I guess, are born with an innate sense of misdirection, and can get lost in the seemingly easiest of places.
So Olga and I were walking back from the Jefferson Memorial, it was about midnight or so, and getting pretty cold. For the life of me, I can't understand how it happened, but instead of ending up at 23rd and I back at the dorm, we managed to wind up in the middle of Southwest. Now, how many college age kids does it take to navigate their through the highly complicated grid of intersecting letters and numbers? The answer to this question is obviously some number far greater than two. <sigh> So yea, it was this pretty sketchy area at, by now, about one in the morning. Eventually we just found a cab and took a fifteen or so minute ride back to campus. My mind hurts when I stop to think about it, but alas, such is life.
Anywho, happy 21st birthday to Olga. Now it's time for a nap and some homework. |
