I support Iraq...

Settle down!!  I'm not talking about the war, which I do not support!

Whilst the sporting world is drooling over Sir Beckham's 12-minutes cameo in LA (watched by, literally, 0.5% of the US population on ESPN), the Asian Cup has been taking place in SE Asia and yesterday, something of a minor miracle happened yesterday in Kuala Lumpur (that's where things go down, baby!).  South Korea, 4th place in the 2002 World Cup, were beaten on penalties by the almighty footballing nation of...Iraq!  The irony, of course, is that the Iraqis will now play...Saudi Arabia!  This has 'based-on-a-true-story movie script' written all over it!

Of course, on a more serious note, we really should salute the Iraqis.  For 120 minutes, 11 men united a war-torn nation in a way that the Americans & co have not been able to do in the past 4 years.  They showed that Iraqis are Iraqis, and not just Shi'tes, Sunnis and Kurds.  It's just a shame that some idiots decided to set off a couple of car bombs when everyone was celebrating.

Anyway, I urge you to support Iraq in sunday's Asian Cup Final.  Sometimes, it can be more than 'just football'...

Where's the blood bath?!

Without giving too much away, I'm slightly disappointed with the final ending to Harry Potter.  I really thought that many heads were going to roll...

(Have I read it?  Don't be silly!  I have no such patience!)

Re-making our favourites

I don't know about you, but I'm very excited about the Transformers movie.  As an action movie on itself, it looks extremely watchable.  However, I think you'd all agree with me (the guys at least!) that Transformers is something we can all relate to.  I bet some of you even played with your toy trucks and tried to pretend that it was Optimus Prime.  I didn't - I didn't have a toy truck!

This, of course, is not the only re-make of a cartoon / comic series in recent times.  Batman, Superman, Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic Four.  At some point of our childhood and youth, we have enjoyed reading or watching these titles.  They've grown up with us, which is why we look forward to them being made into movies.  With this in mind, Transformers should be a success, if not because of the amount of people born in the 80s flogging to see it!

I wonder what cartoons or comics of recent times would be made into real-life action films.  Pokemon requires a hamster that generates electricity.  Power Rangers would need A LOT more blood involved.  Any most of the Japanese anime remade into real-life movies would requires gallons of hair dye and some kind of eye-enlargement surgery...

Cartoons - just not how they used to make them anymore!

The Beckhams

The day has finally arrived - the Beckhams, or David himself to be precise, has officially moved to LA (his wife was there ages ago, but you already knew that!).  As I write this, he'll be unveiled as a LA Galaxy player in 20 mins.

I, for one, am not fond of the Beckham brand.  I can live with Beckham the footballer, but not the brand.  The truth is, the man is being marketed for his looks, not his footballing ability, because plenty of players who are twice as good as he is can be bought for half the price, and I will name them if you really want me to!  The truth is, and I'll piss people off for this, David Beckham is an above-average footballer with model-like looks.  If he didn't have his looks, we would not be talking about him right now.  But anyway, if he was such a professional who wants to play at the highest level, why is he moving to a sub-standard team stuck at the bottom of its half-decent league?

Don't blame him - it was his wife's decision!  Picture this: you're driven by fame, but you were the least talented in a highly successful band 5 years ago.  Your career's going nowhere, and you want to go somewhere where people will give you a bit more attention.  Your husband's highly marketable, playing a sport that has received less focus in the US than a neglected baby.  You see an opportunity to gain more exposure, more camera time, more...attention!  What do you do?  You convince your husband that it's a good career move (cuz men are all about careers right?!).  You get to make friends with Hollywood stars, while your husband's career suffers.

'It's not about the fame or the money'.  Of course it isn't, not to you Mr. Beckham!  Your wife?  That's a different story all together...
