| | BABY SNAKES!!! about a month ago, we caught our 2 corn snakes doing the horrizontal mambo. it was an interesting sight and was a little unexpected. they are only about 18 months and they aren't expected to start breeding until at least 24 months but i guess they didn't want to wait. teenagers... but the interesting thing is that we didn't set up a winter for them. usually, in the wild, there is winter and they hybernate. so, in captivity, you turn off the heater and don't feed them. then, they come out of hybernation in the spring and you feed them. then, their instincts tell them it's time to reproduce. given that they are so young and didn't really see a winter this year, we really did not expect them to mate. next thing we know, eve is getting really fat! lol. so, we read the breeding section of our snake book and made all the proper preparations. she had her prenatal shed last week which indicated that she would lay her eggs soon. so, yesterday, after a long and hard 6.5 hour labor, she laid 10 eggs!!! we are so excited! we got them transfered to the incubator and they all seem to be healthy! now, we have to wait 2-3 months for them to hatch... |
