  • CESA reunion

    Dr. Lau is back again!

The CESA gang (some of us) got together for a good chat and lots of laughs... We always managed to laugh our heads off just reminiscing on our CESA days...

Hope we can keep up our reunions regularly and at least annually.

    It's just priceless.

  • Had the first BBQ of this year with my skule friends

We had some quarter chicken, veggie platter, caesar salad, stuffed eggplants with mushroom, cauliflower casserole, lamb shoulder, baked mushroom, chicken wings, mixed berries, blueberry cake, and lemon pudding.

It's my first time making stuffed eggplants. It turned out to be quite tasty.
The cauliflower was good too but it could be better if I had onion mix.

We watched Forbidden Kingdom by Jackie Chan and Jet Li. I didn't know the movie is based on the Chinese story 西遊記 Journey to the West and a mixture of HK movies from the 70s. It was really funny seeing all these directly translated Chinese sayings in the movie dialogue. It reminded me of skule when we used to say things like "congee star", "big green" and "pick which star". The martial arts in the movie were done well... as for the plot, I already knew what would happen so no comment for that part.

Liu Yi Fei looks prettier at the end of the movie.. She wasn't as "dreamy" as in the Chinese soaps because she was tanned.

Even though it requires a lot of work to organize an event, getting together with skule friends is always fun and memorable.

  • A sharing with you

When was the last time you found yourself complaining about something?

Everyone gets frustrated at times and it is ok to complain. However, if a complain becomes habitual, then it is time to reflect on the reason of the frustration.

A lot of times, people may not realize that what they have at the present moment is actually the best they will ever have. They may find themselves complaining about something that makes them bored out of their mind, nothing is going smoothly or nitty gritty detail or things just aren't right. In these situations, people should step back and think about how they can improve on what they are unhappy about rather than just accepting these "misfortunes" as is.

Life is about being proactive, knowing how to adapt, and learning that things may not always be as perfect as in the fairytales. Everyday, there are new tech gadgets for sale, new songs being broadcasted on the radio, so why does anyone have to be stuck at one point thinking about what is wrong?

Sometimes, people are fortunate to have the opportunity to encounter somethings that other people strive for many years. People who are fortunate in early stages in life may not have been "down in the dumps" and may often be mistaken that what they have is ok or a standard. They have nothing worst to compare to and so everything just seems normal to them. Being fortunate early in life can be a dangerous thing and lead people to a misperception that life is suppose to be like that. Although it is hard to know how to appreciate the fortune at hand, people should really be happy when things are going and can keep going. Things don't have to go smoothly all the time, but when it is smooth, it is when a smile should always be attached to the person. Being appreciative doesn't mean to be satisfied and just do nothing in life. It is part of having a positive lifestyle. These are essential to having a good life.

  • Pan-gee-ah

    Summerlicious at Pangaea

    Portion: 3.5/5
    Taste: 4.8/5
    Presentation: 5/5
    Atmosphere: 4/5

My impression of Summerlicious at Pangaea (pan-gee-ah) is very good.

The overall taste in all the dishes is very good and the food is intricate and has depth to it. You can taste the chef has put a lot of effort and thought into making the food taste good.

The different ingredients that are combined to make each dish goes well with each other.

This is the menu. I forgot to bring my camera.. no food pics

    Pangaea Hot Soup
    As described by your server
    or
     Tomatoe Salad
Kalamata olives, lettuce, red, yellow and orange tomatoes, cheese (forgot which kind) ... it looked really yummie and colourful.

    or
    Serrano ham
Watermelon sous-vide, arugula, avacado and Aged balsamic vinegar

Comments: Serrano ham is dried cured Spanish ham.. it's very similar to the Italiano prosciutto. By the looks of the ham, you can tell it's sliced in-house and not from a deli shop. It is very delicious with the watermelon. The aroma of the arugula is really nice and strong - it also goes well with the meat.

    Rainbow Trout
Pan-seared, on a tomato salad with red onions, capers and a dill and mustard dressing
    or
    Angel Hair
Wild white prawns, tomato, basil, preserved ginger, niçoise olives

This pasta is freahly made and the basil seems to be grinded in a pesto form. The basil is fresh and has a really nice flavour which spiced up the pasta.  There are only 2 prawns in this dish but they are grilled nicely.

    or
    Roasted Leg Of Lamb
Herb crusted, on sherry macerated mixed bean salad and fresh horseradish

This leg of lamb is different from what I have had at other summer/winterlicious. It doesn't have the tangy sauce and it's not an entire leg. It is like presented in the form like a piece of roast beef.  The cut has some tendon which makes this dish imperfect... In spite of that, it is nicely marinated. The macerated mixed bean is OK, but I would prefer a mash to go with it instead of beans.

    or
    Vegetarian Risotto
Summer mushrooms, leeks, snow peas, tomato, parmesan cheese, and olive oil

    Best of Summer Apricot Shortcake
With crème Anglaise and blackberry compote

This is REALLY good. It basically is preserved apricot sandwiched in between two pieces of shortcake biscuit with fresh cream and blackberry in between. The cream is really light and fluffy. Even for a person like me who doesn't like cream had a bit of this cream.

The best part of this is the preserved apricot. It doesn't like canned fruit because it still has the apricot skin and the texture is not mushy... just really nice.. and bursting with various flavours.

    or
    Honey & Almond Biscotti
    With Canadian cheese
    or
    Vanilla Pavlova
With Ontario berries and crème fraiche

The pavlova is presented really nice and neat. The meringue is nice and  white with lots of berries on top. This one also looked really good.

Sangria cocktail at Pangaea is also really nice. It had the right combination of red wine, fizz water and fruit juices.

Looking at the regular menu, Pangaea is rather pricey but if you would like to have a special meal, it's definitely worth a try.
