GAMES FOR WHEN WE ARE OLDER

Farm of Old Macdonald Art Print by Melanie Cargill

1.  Sag, you're it.
2.  Hide and go pee.
3. 20 questions shouted into your good ear.
4.  Kick the bucket
5.  Red Rover, Red Rover, the nurse says Bend Over.
6.  Musical recliners.
7.  Simon says something incoherent.
8.  Pin the Toupee on the bald guy

SIGNS OF MENOPAUSE:
1.  You sell your home heating system at a yard sale.
2.  You have to write post-it notes with your kids' names on them.
3.  You change your underwear after a sneeze.

OLD IS  WHEN:

1.  Going bra-less pulls all the wrinkles out of your face.
2.  You don't care where your spouse goes, just as long as you don't have to go  along.
3.  Getting a little action means I don't need fiber today.
4.  Getting lucky means you find your car in the parking lot.
5.  An all-nighter means not getting up to pee!

Thoughts for the  weekend:
Wouldn't  it be nice if whenever we messed up our life we could simply press  'Ctr Alt Delete' and start all  over?
If  raising children was going to be easy, it never would have started  with something called  labor!
Brain  cells come and brain cells go, but fat cells live  forever.

Ponderisms
I  used to eat a lot of natural foods until I learned that most people  die of natural
causes.

Garden  Rule: When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a  weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of  the ground easily, it is a valuable  plant.

The  easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a  replacement.

Have you noticed since everyone has a camcorder these days no one talks about seeing UFOs like they used  to?

In  the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird.. Now the world  is weird and people take Prozac to make it  normal.

How  is it one careless match can start a forest fire, but it takes a  whole box to start a  campfire?

Who  was the first person to look at a cow and say, 'I think I'll squeeze  these dangly things here and drink whatever comes  out?'

Who  was the first person to say, 'See that chicken there? I'm gonna eat  the next thing that comes outta its  butt.'

If  Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, why is there a song about  him?

Why  does your OB-GYN leave the room when you get undressed if he's going  to look up there  anyway?

Why  doesn't glue stick to the inside of the  bottle?

But  Most Of All,  Remember!
A  Good Friend Is Like A Good Bra. Hard to Find, Supportive, Comfortable,
and Always Close To Your  Heart!

Sunshine and Light - Dream a little Dream

 Mornin Glories!!!

Blue Morning Glories Art Print by Georgia O'keeffe

“We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true."

 Woodrow T. Wilson    1856-1924

the moon, venus & jupiter

"the moon venus and jupiter"

Stars shining bright above you
night breezes seem to whisper
I love you more
Birds singin' in the sycamore tree
Dream a little dream of me.

Sweet dreams til sun beams find you,
sweet dreams that leave our worries behind you.
But in your dreams
whatever they be
dream a little dream of me.

Mamas and Papas

Poopers on a picknic table Spring '07
"To sleep, perchance to dream- ay, there's the rub."

Good Monday

000_008_08
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex standing in the
foyer of the church staring up at a large plaque. It was covered with names
with small American flags mounted on either side of it. The seven year old
had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up,
stood beside the little boy, and said quietly, 'Good morning Alex".

"Good morning Pastor," he replied, still focused on the plaque. "Pastor,
what is this?" he asked.

The pastor said, . "Well, son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women
who died in the service."

Soberly, they just stood together, staring at the large plaque.

Finally, little Alex's voice, barely audible and trembling with fear
asked..........

"Which service, the 9:00 or the 11:00?"

The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.

SKY WATCH....Here Come the Perseids!

-edit-

If you didn't get to see the meteors Tuesday night there is still hope for you (if it's clear where you are) they stay quite active for a couple of nights before and after the biggest night!  It was cloudy here last night too.

BUT

Tonight Barry and I are going to watch the Cubs beat the crap outta the poor Braves again (well maybe not)...if you watch the game...listen for me  - I'm gonna whistle after the 7th inning stretch song - I whistle really loudly - I'd tell you to look for me but I don't know where we'll be sitting and I havent decided what to wear yet   - but I will get in a good wave - and maybe some shooting stars will appear!

Wave

Tonight is (are) the perseids meteor shower.....and drat if it's not raining here!  But it can't be raining everywhere so if I show up on your doorstep after midnight tonight don't be suprised....

Any time you’re outside at night, watch out for meteors — streaks of light that look like “shooting stars.”  Most nights a half-dozen sporadic meteors appear hourly. But several times a year Earth encounters a stream of debris left by a passing comet. The result is a meteor shower — the hourly rates rise and the meteors seem to fly away from a common point in the sky called the radiant.

August 12: The Perseids

The Perseid shower is a popular display because it offers plenty of meteors (up to 60 an hour) under a summer sky. Showtime begins after 1:30 a.m. with the departure of the 10-day-old Moon. The radiant is near the Double Cluster in Perseus.

This "Old Faithful" of meteor showers reaches its broad maximum around mid-August. Fortunately, the Perseids stay active for several days before and after their peak.

During the 2004 Geminid meteor shower, Alan Dyer caught a bright fireball with a tripod-mounted digital camera. He used a wide-field, 16-mm lens for a 1-minute exposure at f/2.8 with an ISO setting of 800. Expect to shoot a lot of frames before you get this lucky.

The central Internet hangout for meteor observers, full of news and comment, is www.meteorobs.org. After making a count, observers often log on to compare what they saw with their late-night compatriots around the world.

I'm going home now, to watch the weather channel (and maybe the olympics) If you see me coming after midnight don't worry - I'll bring my own coffee - and some for you too, cause.....

ILYM

Stars and Stripes

"The sun rises but once each day-- maybe; so too is life.

Never take it for granted; rather, compel yourself to live each moment to it's fullest capacity.

Authored By: Richard F. Sternath, Sgt/USMC

Northern Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam, 1969

            TAPS
                Day is done,
                gone the sun,
                from the lakes
                from the hills
                from the sky,
                all is well,
                safely, rest,
                God is near.

                Fading light,
                Dims the sight,
And a star gems the sky
                Gleaming bright,
                From afar,
                Drawing, near,
                Falls the night.

                Thanks and praise,
                For our days,
                Neath the sun
                Neath the stars
                Neath the sky,
                As we go,
                This, we, know,
                God is near.

I've read several blogs lately that have mentioned Memorial Services that have included presentation of the American Flag.  The Air Force presented one to me at my Son's Memorial and it was the most precious thing, the Airmans words will be imprinted forever on my mind.... forever....I wasn't even aware that the folding of the flag  had a meaning.  At the time, for me, it symbolized finality.

I've tried several times to add to Hatsie's Memorial Tribute, twice I've gone to submit and gotten a failure message.... So although this really isn't a memorial it's about as close as I'm going to come to it,  maybe it's the next best thing.

Meaning of Flag Draped Coffin

All Americans should be given this lesson. Those who think that America is an arrogant nation should really reconsider that thought. Our founding fathers used GOD's word and teachings to establish our Great Nation and I think it's high time Americans get re-educated about this Nation's history. Be proud of the country we live in and even more proud of those who serve to protect our 'GOD GIVEN' rights and freedoms

I hope you take the time to read this..... To understand what the flag draped coffin really means.... Here is how to understand the flag that is laid upon it and is surrendered to so many widows and widowers.

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Flag

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the United States of America Flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of the flag is a symbol of life
.
Flag 2

The 2nd fold is a symbol of the belief in eternal life.

Flag 3

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing the ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of the country to attain peace throughout the world.

Flag 4
The 4th fold represents the weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance

Flag 5
The 5th fold is a tribute to the country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, 'Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.'

Flag 6
The 6th fold is for where people's hearts lie. It is with their heart that They pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America , and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

Flag 7

The 7th fold is a tribute to its Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that they protect their country and their flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of their republic.

Flag 8

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

Flag 9

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of their country since they were first born.

Flag 11

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes,
the
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Flag 12th fold

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes,
God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

Flag 12

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding them of their nations motto,
'In God We Trust.'

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for them the rights, privileges and freedoms they enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.

Share this with the children you love and all others who love what is referred to as,
 the symbol of
' Liberty and Freedom.'

MAY GOD PROTECT US ALWAYS.

Barn with US Flag, CO Photographic Print by Chris Rogers

ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.

The following is a tribute to my Dad who passed in 1990.  His name was Harold Lee, but my son Matt called him John Wayne and he called my son Matt Dillon.  They were quite the pair and I miss them terribly....everyday.

Streets of Laredo
by Marty Robbins  (who taught me to sing, which is probably the reason I'm not fit to sing in the church choir, they just don't sing many cowboy songs at our church, and all of the other women have such pleasant girly voices, I on the other hand sing like Marty!)

"Oh, beat the drum slowly, and play the fife lowly
And play the dead march as you carry me along
Take me to the green valley and lay the earth o'er me
For I'm a poor cowboy and I know I've done wrong"

As I was finishing up this post two Lockheed Martin Fighter Jets buzzed over. I always run outside and try to find them (like some sort of mad woman)  Matt and Daddy both worked for Lockheed, both in the same department, same shift, they even had the same line supervisor.  Daddy retired in 1988 and Matt started in 1998.  They both were electricians on the C-130's, they both got their training in the Air Force.  They both loved the fighters though :)  Me too...

This was really long.....I feel better for some reason
