  • Dr. Bride...

We shot a wedding on Mother's Day...it was really beautiful...

The bride, Kristin, is a local veterinarian, but she wasn't horsin' around in the lookin' gorgeous department. She was quite breath-taking in a dress she made herself. She gets my most-incredible bride award just for that reason.

I've been shooting more and more on my own, spending a lot of time with the girls and the bride while George hangs with the guys before the ceremony. I really appreciate all the encouragement George has given me the past few years as I stretch my photog skills.

Anyway, here's Dr. Kristin in all her breath-taking beauty...

    Isn't her dress AMAZING?!

    ***************************

Even with the wedding to shoot, I had a very nice Mother's Day. When we got home, George and I hung out with Barbara (and Tom who was sleeping) and watched Enchanted. I love that movie...the prince is my all-time favorite prince ever.

I hope all you other mom's had a nice day, too.

  • And Finally...Birds, blossoms, boats and beauty...part 7

I had no idea this walk would end up taking a week to post, but I'm going to end the series with a few random images. Thanks for joining me.

This last image has a funny story behind it...

All along the cliffs are coves. Some are more secluded than others. This cliffside above obviously had a wonderful natural watercolor effect that I wanted to get a better look at, so I moved closer to the edge of the cliff overlooking the secluded cove below, camera in the ready... But before I shot the image I looked down on the beach and realized there were about a half dozen naked men sunbathing And here I was with my camera, looking like I was trying to photograph them, not the cliff...!! OMG..I looked around to see if anyone was watching me, and then backed-away-very-slowly...trying to look as nonchalant as possible. LOL!!

I then proceeded to take the photo from a more politically-correct distance... Sheesh, welcome to Santa Cruz.

So ends our walk along West Cliff Drive. When we got back to the car, Daisy just plopped down on my lap and slept the whole way home.

    ***************************

I have to make a run to Costco today...hopefully my new sunglasses are ready since I can hardly even read street signs anymore with my old prescription. And George and I are shooting a wedding tomorrow on Mother's Day...fun stuff.

    **************************

So...Happy Mother's Day MOM! You're the best! I love you very much...

  • Lighthouse Field....part 6

Actually, the following story isn't true according to Truth or Fiction, but it does make a funny point...

    ***************************
This is based on an actual radio conversation between a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier (U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln) and Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995. (The radio conversation was released by the Chief of Naval Operations on 10/10/95 authorized by the Freedom of Information Act.)

Canadians:  Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid collision.

Americans:  Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.

Canadians:  Negative.  You will have to divert your course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

Americans:  This is the Captain of a US Navy ship.  I say again, divert YOUR course.

Canadians:  No, I say again, you divert YOUR course.

Americans:  THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET.  WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE  DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT  VESSELS.  I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15  DEGREES NORTH--I SAY AGAIN, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH--OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

Canadians:  This is a lighthouse.  Your call.

    *******************************

We have a lighthouse here in Santa Cruz, that currently exists as a surf museum...

We've shot quite a few weddings here on the grass you see to the right. I wouldn't ever plan a wedding here, though...the fog, wind, cold, brrrr...sunshine is never a sure thing. Neither is parking.

Anyway, it's a grand little lighthouse...

    IMG_1104b

    IMG_1109b

The open space across the road is called Lighthouse Field....

    IMG_1065b

A lot of people are so preoccupied with the ocean that they completely miss this incredibly beautiful place to walk...

    IMG_1112b

It's pretty much a "local's" hangout...which is great cuz one can easily escape the crowded walkway along the cliffs...

    IMG_1116b

I was intrigued by this uprooted tree that had this brilliant little flowering plant growing on its roots...

    IMG_1118b

Okay, so I finally reached my one-way destination..and it's only taken me a week to do it...

I hope you all have a super weekend.

  • Slower traffic keep right...part 5

The walking/biking/stroller/skateboarding/jogging traffic along West Cliff can get pretty intense on a beautiful day like last Saturday, so the pathway is clearly marked....

    IMG_1129b

Besides that, there are signs every hundred feet or so, urging people to stay away from the cliffs. Every summer we read about tourists getting swept off the rocks by rogue waves...these are not to be ignored...

    IMG_1102b

However, notice the surfer at the end of the cliff here...this is how they enter the water. They walk to the end of the cliff and then jump about 15 feet into the water. I always wonder if their mothers know they do that.

Apparently, Daisy cannot read...or she has no fear....

    IMG_1154b

Other fun stuff we saw along the way which just made me smile...

Today, I have my last wedding album to complete from last year, and then it's on to 2008.

I hope your day is awesome.

About Me

  • Married almost 25 years with two adult kids. I run my husband's small photo business and actually started taking photos myself about three years ago when my husband bought me a Canon20D cuz he was tired of me telling him what pictures he should be taking.
