| What Form Would Your Patronus Take? (With 10 Excellent Results & Pictures) | | |
| The House-Hunt Continues...OK, so saying that house needed no repairs was a bit incorrect...... We ended up passing on it 3 days before closing because the inspector found all kinds of things wrong with it. Things the sellers had covered up and LIED about! Water damage, non-functioning furnace, sagging roof rafter, rotten windowsills, ancient wiring and plumbing, etc. They refused to come down on the price, and wouldn't fix anything but the cheapest things, so we walked. We are making an offer on a 3rd house tomorrow. Yes, here's to hoping the third time's the charm..... I'm not going to say any more about this one, though, for fear of jinxing it. More later......... | | |
| House-Hunting UpdateOK, where did I leave the house-hunting saga? Oh yes, we made an offer. They decided to leave it, then dropped their asking price 2 weeks later to $1,000 LESS than what we offered, and someone else bought it out from underneath us! It's OK though, because while we mostly like the house, it did have some negatives. We've since found and bid on another one, and this one is in a *way* better location, and needs NO repairs before we move in:
This one is about 200 square feet bigger than the other one, is not located on a main road, and the roof doesn't leak!! It even comes with most of the appliances. All it needs is a refrigerator and a carpet-cleaning, and it's ready to go. Probably some paint too, but only because I want some color - not because it needs it..... They are hashing out all the details today, and with luck on our side, they will be accepting our offer by 5:00pm this evening. I really hope that this saga is coming to an end. You would not even believe some of the houses we've seen between the first one and this one -- one had no working heat, and a plumbing problem, so the ceilings had icicles and the walls were frozen!; one was missing a furnace altogether; one had stairs so narrow that my little foot didn't even fit all the way on them, let alone Archie's size 12's; and one had squatters living in it, so we walked in to find grafitti on the walls and garbage and used condoms on the floor (eeeeewww!!). | | |

| Eep!!Well, we did it. We made an offer on the house. We bid low, because we know what the house is worth, and we know the seller wants to unload it ASAP. They have until 5:00 pm tomorrow evening to take it or leave it. We're going in tonight to sign the preliminary loan papers, so if all goes as planned, we will close on 5/31, and be official homeowners by June! I'd like to push the closing date up, though, because the roof is a bit leaky and needs to be torn off and redone. Every rainy day like today is making me cringe, wondering what damage is being done to the ceiling. So, the sooner we can get in there, the better... You know what I'm looking forward to the most? Packing! Not that I like packing, but our apartment is such a cluttered mess, that packing is the perfect excuse to clean, organize and throw away a bunch of useless crap! I'm also looking forward to buying new things -- things like a Swiffer, George Foreman grill, ironing board, new couch -- things I don't have the space/need for in the apartment........ Mmmmm, George-Foreman-grilled burgers, I can taste 'em already........... | | |
