| CONSTANTINE R (VIOLENCE, DEMONIC IMAGES, LANGUAGE)
John Constantine is a man who, since he was born has been able to see into the spiritural rhealm. He has spent his life fighting demons who attempt to crossover into our rhealm and sending them back to Hell where they belong. Now, he notices more and more unusual demonic activity and he is diagnosed with lung cancer and given only months to live. As if that weren't enough, a mysterious woman named Angela insists that her twin sister's suicide was actually a murder and that Constantine is the only one who can help her...
Ahh...comic book movies. I must admit, I love em. Now I also must admit that I've never read the HELLBLAZER series this film is based upon. I know that in that series John was british and blonde, and in the film of course, its Keanu Reeves. But I can tell you that I really enjoyed the film. It starts in Mexico and really, snatched me into the story. We follow John as he tries to figure out whats about to happen in the spirit world, and how he is going to deal with dying from lung cancer. The direction was beautiful. Each scene is simply gorgeous to look at. And although I wouldn't consider this an action film, there are some really nice action scenes and Hell is done very, very well.
In the end, I think if you liked END OF DAYS, THE EXORCIST or THE MATRIX, you'll probably like this. It takes its time getting to know the characters, but its a very fun ride and it sends a message to Marvel very loud and clear...DC is back!
| HITCH PG-13 (Mild Language, Sexual Refrences)
Will Smith is on fire at the box office. Love him or hate him, HITCH's opening weekend gross of $43 million brings his average opening weekend grosses for all of his films to $35 million. thats higher than any other actor working today or in history. What does that tell us? Nothing really.
HITCH is a romantic comedy. I have to ask...aren't they all the same? I mean, really? Will plays the title character who is a dedicated bachelor but, for a fee, helps men to woo the woman of their dreams. Of course, things begin to change for Hitch when he meets Sara...a refreshingly original woman who seems immune to his charms.
Now I will say that HITCH is funny. Will is a very funny guy anyway and the addition of Kevin James (The King of Queens) was a very smart move. But the plot has basically been done many times over. But then, so has the Horror/Gore movie plot, and the Action film plot and so on. Each person is different so reviews are really stupid anyway.
Do I recommend HITCH? If you enjoy Romantic Comedies...yes I do. Its not a bad movie at all. But I would rather see Big Willie fighting aliens or blowing stuff up.
| This page is needing an update in the worst of ways...so here goes:
BOOGEYMAN PG-13 (Scary Images, Mild Violence, Language)
I'm 24 years old. I grew up watching movies of all kinds. Although there will always be a special place in my heart for horror films. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've watched Freddy Kruger invade a dream or Jason Voorhees hack up a teenage pothead. There is something about the horror/slasher film that I just love. The cheesy dialouge, the bad acting, the nudity and the gore are just fun. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the SCREAM's and the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER's and all the other gore films where the killer is human, but when the killer is supernatural, its just more fun.
BOOGEYMAN is the story of a man who, when he was a young boy, witnessed something that has haunted him for life. He has been in and out of Physciatric hospitals his entire life and rarely returns home to see his mother, who has been in a mental institution since his father left. Now, after learning that his mom has passed away, the young man will return home for the funeral and spend one last night in his childhood home. He will face the source of his "nightmares" and find out once for all...is there a Boogeyman?
My problem with this film isn't really a problem. Its a nice little piece of horror. It has moments that made me jump. And its certainly creepy. But, it falls victim to the same treatment that THE RING and THE GRUDGE had. PG-13 levels of Gore, which means, no gore. Now some will argue that this is a more, pure horror film and i suppose thats true. But when I see a film about a supernatural violent killer, I want to see some gore. But maybe I'm just stupid.
Overall, the acting is bad for the most part. The film is paced well and edited nicely, but some of the dialouge is questionable...just like all horror films. And of course, the ending is weak. But if you liked those other PG-13 fright fests, you should enjoy this one as well. Its no FRIDAY THE 13TH or HALLOWEEN, but really, what is?
