8 for 8! ...then down hill

i know i am too late cuz i didn't do a euro preview post (been busy), and that i will sound like an annoying know-it-all guy, but i got all 8 picks on who would make the knock out stage.  yes, i picked turkey over czech republic and russia over sweden or greece

the only thing i got wrong were the order in 2 groups: i had germany over croatia in group b and italy over holland in group c.  i still am the man.  i tell myself that everyday.  ...gotta feel good about myself somehow

however, since then, i have gotten pretty much all of it wrong.  my pick for the champ, holland stunk up as bad as the horribly tacky movie mr holland's opus, italy's gone, and croatia's been eliminated by the awesome turks.  it's a good thing i don't gamble

here is my take on the rest of the tourney.  (if you don't know anything about soccer, you can just read the below few paragraphs and tell the exact things to your friends.  it will make you sound like you know your stuff)

in case you didn't know, there are now only 4 left - germany will face turkey, and spain against russia

turkey has been awesome and fun to watch, coming back to win the past 3 games, but i think their run is done, as much as i hate to say it.  they have too many injuries & suspensions to key leaders.  plus germany is stacked w/ talent and healthy.  germany 3-0 turkey

spain beat russia in their first group d match 4-1, and here they meet again in the semis.  russia got so much better since, and showed they could beat one of the world's best teams in holland.  gus hiddink is the man, and i'm sure he came up w/ a plan for this rematch.  however, spain is spain, and really really good.  i say spain 2-1 russia

and the finals?
germany 2-2 spain
germany 4-2 spain in penalties

yeah yeah...  now that i've done a post, i'll probably get everything wrong

cheers,

...hurley?

hurley_lost
there's a woman on my floor that looks exactly like hurley from lost.  sometimes i get this urge to tell her that, but something tells me it's a bad idea

"...but in a good way.  cuz i'm a huge fan of the show.  ...and hurley is my favorite character.  ...uh...  ok, i gotta go"

american i-dull

american idol is a joke.  but you knew that already

i've said this before, but i only like watching the preliminary auditions and that's about it.  if it weren't for the them, we wouldn't have william hung, who is so awesome(ly bad)!  you also feel a little better about yourself after watching these people go out of their way to humiliate themselves on national tv.  otherwise, i really couldn't care less about the hollywood or the later rounds

american_idol_awesome_shirtless i rarely watch the show, but when i do catch glimpses of it (and the judging), i usually agree w/ what simon has to say.  his criticisms are spot on and the exact same thing i'm thinking about, most of the time.  however, he's been totally off this season.  not only that, there's something fishy going on.  i really feel that the producers or sponsors of the show told the judges to give better feedback to certain (good-looking) all-american types, while giving bad ones to the less appealing ones and the foreigners

this past week, brooke white (seriously, you cannot possibly come up w/ a whiter name) was finally booted off, and she sobbed like poodle died.  well, she should be grateful cuz she shouldn't have lasted this long anyway.  she's one dimensional, cannot sing, cannot play the piano or the guitar (although she liked the idea of it).  and the way she kept starting songs over was just bad and annoying

again - i don't watch the show, and couldn't care less who wins...  but it is ridiculously unfair that far-less talented and sucky people (the bland b white & the really horrendous kristy lee cook) are getting ahead only because they fit a certain demographic

by far, that australian dude (michael john), raspy/husky voice chick who looks like a 40-year old chain smoker (amanda overmyer), and the irish chick (carly smithson) were the best performers - carly being the best, and it's a shame that they all got booted off way too early

now the only one left that isn't too horrible or tacky is that david cook dude who somehow manages the back-up band to play creative & decent arrangements. (which is a very good thing, cuz most accompaniments sound like crap)  too bad he comes across as a douche

oh well...

the greatest drummer... EVER!!!

move over dave weckl, jack de johnette, carter beauford, meg white!  here we have the greatest drummer ever!!!  you have never seen so much passion, emotion and awesome chops poured into one song!

i got this clip from mpaik, & i don't know exactly when this is from (could be anywhere from the 60's, 70's, or even the early 80's.)  but what we do know for sure - it's awesome!!!  it's a korean/japanese music genre which americans are probably not familiar with, called "ppong-jjahk".  the best way i can describe it is "war-time oldies"

watch the drummer till the very end.  the band goes into a jam-band mode, and he goes buckwild

cheers,
