hello xanga-ers,
i have realized that many of us have stopped xanga-ing.. it was such a great time that we did in high school.. it was something we did almost every night after school, haha.. i was going through my subscriptions and only like 2 ppl out of my many subscribed xanga ppl update regularly.. victoria & jeff =P so i wanted to update!
i wanted to sum up the highlights of this quarter. yah, i'm done with fall quarter of my junior year in college @.@;; scary fact.
1) getting a free used car from my auntie this past summer! ^-^
my auntie wanted to get a truck to replace the old civic my uncle was driving, because he needs a truck for the construction work that he does. my mom originally thought to get me a new corolla, but she took this opportunity well and asked her to give the civic to me >D hahaha. it's a 2001 civic lx, peachy colored. my mom and i brought it to the auto shop to get the bumpers & the driver door fixed (my uncle wasn't a very good driver ><;; he got in quite a few accidents with this car).. so that was a couple hundred dollars investment. so i've been using the car to drive up and down 80 to go to davis and back home... it feels so great to roll the windows down and play music loud and sing my heart out
!! yah!
i've been hooked onto listening to 101.3 with don blue in the morning! i lovelovelove listening to "you've been bloopered in the morning!" so i start driving to davis at around 6-6:30 on monday morning.. & i listen to the blooper near 7 am =) if you don't know what it is, tune into 101.3 in the morning! =P gaah.. i'm advertising for them. but don blue is such a funny guy >P
2) cooking club
i started cooking club with 4 other officers this quarter =) it's been going very well actually! we hosted three events: a) italian night (pasta, salad, garlic bread!); b) japanese night (sushi, tempura, gyoza, miso soup, soba, fried bananas, wine!); c) holiday bake exchange (each participant brings a batch of their homemade baked goodies and we all exchange!)! we also participated in the activities faire (where all the student organizations come out to advertise their club), where we did cooking demonstrations of our version of the vietnamese spring roll ^-^! our club is pretty active now =D but we still don't have an agency account & we still need a fundraising chair and publicity chair >< i'm excited for next quarter's events! chinese new year, yah! <3
for our japanese event, an entertainment reporter from AGTV came to film some of our cooking =D and i got interviewed also... but i think i sound too ditzy in the video >< lolol it's kind of embarassing. if you want to watch, go to my facebook pf and search for the agtv link! =P
through cooking club, i met quite a couple new friends =) so i'm very happy about that as well!
3) cmn165: media and health
i was pretty excited to take this class, because this topic interests me a lot =D & it was very challenging with the work we did... a lot of reading, discussion questions, etc. our class of 50 split up into groups of 5-6 ppl to work on a news conference presentation regarding a media & health issue, such as smoking in movies and alcohol abuse in television shows. i ended up being in a group with four asian girls, and our topic was body image in the media. i chose to be the emcee/spokesperson in the news conference, and it went well =D we had five speakers: a psychologist, a sports nutritionist, the president of NOBIH (national organization of body image and health, which we made up of course lol), and tyra banks! how did we have 5 speakers when i only have 4 other members? well, one of our members played 2 characters lol. we put together a media packet to be turned in to our professor as well =D it was a great experience learning about what news conferences are about. also, we had a 2800-3200 word term paper to write. this was a big painer >D but i'm glad that i completed it successfully! the title of my paper is: "The Behavioral Impacts of Thin Media Images in Young Women." i wrote about how adolescent girls respond to thin media images, and whether they participate in restrained or unrestrained eating. i have always been interested in this topic, so it was a great opportunity for me to do some research and to write this paper =) i believe this paper is probably the longest paper i have ever written. i also had to write a paper for my take-home final, which was 650 words, thank goodness. i wrote about sex and the media... very interesting. =P
4) FST101A: Food Chemistry Lab
even though working on lab reports was painful, i enjoyed doing the experiments in the lab =) it was fun, we got to work with some foods! my lab partner was my friend julia, and for some reason, we always took so long working on the labs together. we got to work with foods like turnips, dog food, etc.. we actually made mayonnaise, we did taste testings of vinegar (ahh horrible) & orange/apple/grape juices,.. my TA was very nice and cool =D it's too bad that i don't have her as my TA again for next quarter.
5) Badminton PE
gosh, i was so surprised when i first started playing this. before, i thought... what's so interesting about whacking a birdie around? but lo and behold, i lovelovelove this game instantly as i started playing with julia haha =) we improved a lot through this quarter! even our pe teacher, dwayne said so ^-^b so yah! i love playing this game, but i have elementary skills of course =) i played badminton again with julia yesterday at the ARC - we played three games, and i won two of them >;D mwahaha! both of us got so into the game and it was pretty intense haha.. we enjoy the game so much ^-^ i woke up this morning very sore though... so hard to get out of bed ><;; lol. i hope to play badminton more again next quarter! =) i want to get better.
there were many more things that have happened, but i'll stop here for now. thanks for reading my faithful readers! ^.~
