i don't know how many of you will remember this, but last year chaplain benson quoted tom delay in one of his sermons praising his high moral standards and lifestyle and saying that our government needed more men like him.  yesterday DeLay was indicted for criminal conspiracy.  yay republicans!

i just got back from florida and it was amazing!  it was so good to just relax and spend time with the family and of course my lovely fiance.  it was a great time despite the 19 hour car ride each way.  i gained some perspective on the trip.  people always say that the media is so liberally biased, but the entire way there and back my dad was listening to talk radio and all we heard was a bunch of angry conservatives shouting about how terrible liberals are.  someone please explain this to me.  right now conservatives have a president in the white house, they hold a majority in both houses of congress, and they are about to gain another seat on the supreme court.  WHY ARE THEY SO ANGRY?  they control virtually every aspect of the government.  what could they possibly have to complain about?  maybe its the fact that the american people are finally starting to realize that the bush administration has made some mistakes that they aren't willing to own up to.  bush's approval rating is the lowest its ever been.  maybe morons like bill oreilly and rush limbaugh and ann coulter have to yell because they're afraid if they talk in a civil manner it will be more obvious that they're full of crap.  don't get me wrong, there are a lot of liberals who like to shout just as much and who are full of just as much crap as the above-mentioned conservatives.  they just aren't as hateful.  i can't wait for the day when "moderate" isn't considered a dirty word in mainstream politics.  i can't wait for the day when people realize that pro-life should apply to life at every stage no matter who you are.  i can't wait for the day when people realize that whether you kill an american fetus or an iraqi toddler, you're still commiting murder.  the bottom line is this:  it makes just as much sense to call yourself pro-life and support abortion as it does to call yourself pro-life and support the death penalty, or the war in iraq, or to oppose gun control.  i can't understand why we've let ourselves as a nation become so polarized that we refuse to use common sense.  i'm sick of everyone thinking only on party lines.  ESPECIALLY CHRISTIANS!  i'm tired of everyone thinking that being a christian makes them a republican as well.  i have a hard time believing that jesus was a republican (or a democrat either).  for some reason i don't think that the same man who said "love your enemies and do good to those who persecute you" would agree with a preemptive strike on a sovereign nation.  i also have a hard time believing that the man who spent his entire ministry preaching about giving to the poor would want to give tax cuts to the rich, or privatize social security, or spend more money on a party for his inauguration than he would give to a nation decimated by a natural disaster.   i guess what bothers me the most is that noone is willing to think objectively about these things (i admit i have a hard time doing so myself at times).  i wonder what our christian brothers and sisters in other nations think about the state of the church in america.  after all, they believe in and worship the same god that we do.  they love the same jesus that we do.  have we, as a nation and as a church, become so acclimated to our position in society that we're afraid to abandon something as meaningless as party affiliation?  have we become so conditioned by our churches and our traditions that we are no longer willing to decide for ourselves what is right?  i certainly hope not.

anyway, sorry about my ranting and i'm sorry for calling people morons.  that wasn't very nice, but i still think that a lot of people on both ends of the spectrum are full of crap, lol.  all i was really trying to say was that vacation was great!  can't wait for school to start. peace and love to you all!

wow its been about a month since i updated.  thats because my computer recently took a crap and decided to stop working.  oh well.  quite a lot has been going on as of late.  most of it involves wedding plans and trips to bonfield.  jen and have actually gotten quite a bit done.  we've booked a chapel and a reception hall.  jen bought her dress.  we've got our wedding bands.  we finalized the guest list and picked the wedding party.  things are moving really fast right now, but the wedding still seems like its a lifetime away.  i'm having a really hard time waiting.
in other news, i've been keeping pretty busy with work, i kind of like the banking world, but its still a job : (  last week i went with my dad to see a lynyrd skynyrd concert which was really sweet even though everyone there was smoking weed.  i also got to go visit my boy from flint whom i will from now on refer to as "pastor david."  i also got to meet the infamous jessie...finally.  needles to say, we had a great time.  well, i'm out.  i've got better things to do right now...like watch the boondock saints.  peace.

the following people deserve shout outs from me:
jen - i love you so much baby!
ray - much love to my truest friend.  sorry we haven't seen more of each other this summer
dave - it was great to see you this weekend.  i miss living with you buddy
bobby - i miss you too dude.  i'm looking forward to this school year.
johnny boy - i can't wait to be neighbors again!  love ya buddy

not much has changed in my life lately.  nothing new has been going on.  of course when i say nothing i actually mean EVERYTHING!  this last week has probably been the best one of my life.  when you think about it, one really doesn't have that many truly life altering experiences throughout the course of their lifetime.  right now i'm in the middle of one.  for those of you who may not have heard yet...i recently stopped calling jen my girlfriend.  now i get to call her my fiance, or my wife to be, or the future mrs. stout, and a bunch of other cute couple names that would probably make a lot of my friends want to throw up.  let me just say that this is by far the most exciting thing that has ever happened in my life.  it took a while for me to realize what was really happening, but now i'm just pumped.  i feel like such a grown up.  i recently started working a 9 to 5 job at a bank and now i'm helping plan my own wedding.  i can't wait to see what happens next!
