| beaches, shopping, coconuts and ping pong shows...I left my heart on the sandy white beaches of Koh Samui where the waters are crystal turquoise blue...Lizzy and I left for Thailand two days early to beat the dreaded rush of chinese people going on their holidays, we spent almost a day just travelling to get there but it was worth it. The first night we got there, we went to this amazing bar and restaurant on the top of bangkok's second highest building. The food was amazing but it didn't match the spectacular view from the 64th floor of the state tower building, all i was missing was a vera wang gown to top the lovely evening off. After dinner, the couples parted way, one couple to the Grand Hyatt to party on and we went home to sleep.
The next day we went to Paragon, where they had every brand name under the sun....it was shopping galour but we didn't stay for long because we were off to see the leaning buddha and then lunch at some nearby street food markets where we tasted some of the best fruit shakes and pad thai. Afterwards, we were meant to catch a flight into Koh Samui but we had no idea how bad Bangkok traffic would be on a friday afternoon so we ended up missing our flight. My first time missing a flight but it was out of our control so instead, we went to the patpong markets and to see one of Bangkok's notorious "ping pong" shows. I must say, thats one party trick i DON"T want to learn hahah....then it was off to some dodgy "club" that was recommended by our cab driver who, i personally think gets a commission for delivering foreigners there. however, it turned out to be one of the better clubs i've been to. The music was excellent! i was on my feet all night which is rare these days. We finally called it a night at 4am in order to head back to the airport to begin our 6 hour standby wait for a flight out to samui. After 24hrs of being awake, we started getting a bit delirious and the famous Thai phrase "same same" was just too hilarious. For someone who has never been to Thailand or Vietnam, when they say two things are the same, they always say "same same". Finally we got a flight into Samui and then a catamaran into pha-ngan, another little island like samui but less commercialised. That night we went to our first half-moon party in the middle of a coconut plantation where people dance funny.
the next day we hire mophed's and explored the entire island. We drove to a waterfall and then went elephant trekking, bought some "special" mushrooms and got pha-ngan tattoos (scars from our motorbike accidents). Then we were back in Samui for a couple of days where we lounged around on the white beaches, drinking our coconut drinks, soaking up the sun's rays and eating lots of yummy thai cuisine.
Back to bangkok and thats where the shopping all began. I am now the proud owner of beautiful beautiful cream colour zara coat. Its sooo lovely!! Clubbing at the Grand Hyatt was lots of fun as well. Amongst all the ladyboys, deperate thai chicks on the lookout for foreign men and the foreign men desperate for skanky thai chicks, we danced like we were 18, young and free, all night to the live band. The next day was our designated shopping day, we went from shopping centre to the next until dinner time and then we went shopped some more at the Suan Lum night bazaar which was the massive market area where they had this food hall with live entertainment and awesome food. More shopping until midnight when it closed, one last foot massage and then off to bed so we could get up early and make our way back to China :( It was one fun and relaxing holiday with great company and great memories...
my apologies for no photos. stupid china network doesn't allow me to upload any photos...just use ur imagination! kekek | | |
| cupcakes with honeycomb and maple...the other day i woke up at 5am suddenly with this craving for pink cupcakes, for awhile i lay in bed thinking about cupcakes with that soft pink icing decorated with smarties and those metallic ball things...mmmm.....so i woke up that morning with a mission. i raced to the computer and printed off three possible recipes to use. they all seemed pretty easy to make and so i chose one and then headed off to coles to buy my ingredients. stupid me for not writing up a shopping list cause i forgot the paper patties for the cupcakes and the smarties for the decorations, luckily i managed to pick some up at the local service station on the way home. all seemed to go according to plan, i was beating the butter and the sugar hoping to get it to a light and creamy consistency but i must have overlooked that with my impatience as the cupcakes consequently turned out looking like wads of oily, sugary turdness, not light and fluffy like those ones from the cupcake shop on pitt st, but these tough, oily gross things that resemble nothing like a cupcake!! a cupcake!! how hard is it the make a friggen cupcake, yet i managed to stuff it up like crazy! how am i ever going to make cupcakes for my kids birthday parties! wwahhhhh!!!! hopeless. never baking again and to make things worst, my two lil sisters decide to upstage me by baking these cookies the very next day and they even turned out yummy and decent!! wats wrong with me?!?!?
yesterday we went horse riding!! it was heaps exciting first and although my horse wasnt any show pony she seemed to be quite tame and lovely at first sight, well suited to her name "maple", however little did i know that she was a major psycho and like to bite every other horse that got in our way!! the ugly thing even scared the daylights out of me by making a bolt for it in the last few hundred metres causing me to scream and hold onto the saddle for my dear life and i'm only a beginner!!! watever happened to allocating nice, gently and obedient horses to complete beginners? i think she was getting me back for calling her ugly hahahah....and i'm definately paying for it today. my butt and lower back is kiling me!
