And the winner is....

So I tuned into the Oscars the other night.  I did lose a bet.  I bet against Hoffmann in "Capote" for best actor.  It was a good movie and he did give a great performance.  So I guess I owe Mike a six-pack of his choice.

So "Crash" ended up winning best picture and Three-Six Mafia won best original soundtrack.  Well the local hip-hop stations down here just loved it.  They act like we're still in some civil rights movement.  It's like "oh my God!, did you notice how the tone of the night changed when 3-6 Mafia gave their performance?".  No I sure didn't, I was busy switching to ESPN during all that filler crap they put in between the selections.  I understand why they do it though.  I mean actors/actresses probably spend about a week doing their hair, makeup, implants, lypo, etc.  It has to last 5 hours or so.  That way they can justify that $10,000/night hotel they stayed in just to walk away empty handed and watch 3-6 Maifia leave with an Oscar around his neck.

"March of the Penguins" won best Documentary.  I didn't know there were any other documentaries this past year.  I guess your documentary really stands out when you get a guy like Morgan Freeman narrating for you.  I loved how during the acceptance speech they cut to Freeman and spotlighted him.  Was it great creativity/directing that won the best documentary or was is it the inspirational voice of Mr. Freeman?  You decide.

Last topic, acceptance speeches.  They get better and better each year.  I've yet to hear, "I'd like to thank the bellboy who carried my luggage to my suite.  If it wasn't for him my wrists probably wouldn't have the strength to hold up this Oscar."  I am impressed how they can remember all those names in their speeches.  I guess they could be spouting out random names.  It's not like I know any of their people.

I've yet to see "Barebac.." I mean "Brokeback" or "Walk the Line" so I can't compare them to "Crash".  I guess it's hard to put a bunch of different genres together and decide who's the best.  It's like lining up a burrito, hamburger, BBQ chicken, and lasgna only to ask "What is the best tasting?"  It all depends on the mood I guess.
