The Republican Chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children has just resigned – effective immediately – from his post as a congressman for the State of Florida (story). Why? ABC news uncovered evidence that Congressman Mark Foley was sending inappropriate (sexually harassing) emails to underage members of the Republican Pages.

Disgusting, isn’t it? An absolute betrayal of the office he held.

However, that’s not the fascinating thing about this story. The amazing, fascinating thing is to read the absolute demonization suffered by the ABC blog that originally posted this story. Check out the comments on the original story here. The ultra-conservative crazies just rip the blog up and down… Until word comes out that Foley has resigned. Then there is nothing but silence.

Fools.

Bed and Bands

My job is slowly wearing me down. Lately, when I get home in the evenings, I've been so tired that all I can think about is sleep. I look forward to the weekends not because of what I'll be doing on the weekends, but because I'll be able to sleep. Somehow I just don’t believe life should be like that.

I've got a couple of bands for you to check out.

Gregor Samsa – The experts call it post-rock, all I know is that it's music that lends itelf well to introspective thinking – the kind of music I listen to while writing a journal entry. FYI, "Gregor Samsa is the main character of The Metamorphosis, a novel by Franz Kafka in which Samsa tries to live his life after having been transformed into a large bug" (Wikipedia).

OK Go – I love this band already. They created a craze of sorts by releasing very low-tech music videos that are absolutely cool. Brad has one of them up on his blog. The experts call it smart-pop. I guess they all graduated high school?

Art Collecter

So I'm thinking that my small personal space - the 300 sq. ft. of room I call my own - might benefit from an infusion of art. I've not got a ton of money to spend, so original art isn't really an option. I'm also growing increasingly fond of Anime and Anime inspired art, and I think it would be just the right thing to give my room a little twist. I've got a couple of ideas that I'd like to show you, and maybe you'll cast a vote of sorts for two of them.

Actually, I have a couple more than a few, so I'm going to put them in a gallery and link them. Please, take a look at them and tell me what you think. I'd love some advice. You can click the picture to enter the gallery.

It is hot in DC today. This is nothing new, unfortunately. It's been quite warm for nearly 3 weeks now, but today's heat is simply oppressive. Lucky for us, misery creates company- the entire Eastern US is simply baking. Forecasts indicate that it’s going to stay this way for quite some time.

There’s only one upside to roasting - shirtless guys!

Sorry I’m not posting much. I realize that both my blog and readership are pretty much gone, but I’m not giving up on this yet. I really need to find some time to update and re-vamp the site. I have a color scheme, just not a layout. Get ready – it involves this fantastic pink that just leaps off the screen at you!

When Paranoid Propaganda Masquerades as Commentary.

The following is the text of my response to a CNN.com commentary by Dr. James Dobson.

I am both amused and frightened by the fact that Dr. Dobson believes that the only valid definition of "family" is that used by fundamentalist Christian Americans. He seems completely blinded to the fact that there are literally millions of Americans who would define "family" in very different ways, and that even if they are a minority, their way of life deserves respect and protection.

Dr. Dobson accuses gays and lesbians of wanting to destroy a 5000-year-old institution. It’s odd that most of them don’t intend that at all; they would rather join and strengthen that institution, and enjoy its bonds, privileges, benefits and detriments along with their heterosexual neighbors. Perhaps if Dr. Dobson would consent to meet with even a single one of these families, and attempt to understand them, he would realize the truth.

Dr. Dobson illustrates his own hypocrisy with this editorial. He repeatedly refuses to meet with gay and lesbian families to discuss their lives and values, and his own mass media machine is no less biased than he accuses major media of being. It is a shame that his name has enough recognition for CNN to publish his editorial.

Someone recently warned me about letting work consume my life. I can't remember who it was - probably because work consumes my life.

I get up in the morning, shower, dress, get on the bus, then the metro, then the bus, then walk into the office. I try to survive the chaos without looking like an idiot and while helping people. I take lunch. I battle chaos again. I leave work, get on the bus, then the metro, then the bus. I walk in the house, eat a bowl of cereal for dinner. Game for a few hours. Go to bed. Wake up and... that's my life.

I'm a Corporate Drone.

Somehow, I didn't see myself here. That's nothing new, but it's more unsettling this time.

Pride!

Well, this is Gay Pride Month. I've been rather activist in word, but I've never been activist in deed, as it were. Capital Pride is this weekend in DuPont Circle. I'm trying to persuade myself that I'm going to go. I'm more than a little freaked out about attending my first pride event by myself in DC, but I suppose I'll do it anyway.

I'm also wondering about the attitude of Pride events. I get three distinct vibes from people when it comes to Pride events. They either think it's a party, think it's a rally, or think the gays are flaunting themselves. Where do you fall on the spectrum?

In light of the recent failure of the FMA, I'm thinking this weekend is going to be a little of all three (maybe that's how it always is). In any event, I have many things to do this weekend, so we'll see how much of it I can get to. Sorry, but I have no camera, so I don't think pictures will be forthcoming (unless they're from my camera phone - its quality leaves much to be desired).
