| Like returning to an old friend...Hey peeps...
It always feels so weird these days whenever I finally decide to Xanga-it again...life takes over and I get too busy writing things for other people and forget to write for myself and you guys! I love school and all the things I do here in Ann Arbor, but everything really sucks up my time, and unfortunately, updating my Xanga audience falls low on my priority list.
The last day of our short fall break is upon us, and I'm sitting at work, half writing this, and half filling RA application file folders. Yes, I do have a job...it's a work-study thing that supplements my freelance work, which comes along every once in a while, but the way I see it, it's extra money in the bank, and God knows I need it.
Here's a little tidbit I've been thinking about in the last week...I tend to enjoy doing things with other people, and seeing them enjoy things brings me joy as well, like showing them a hilarious video on YouTube or bringing them to church with me. I think a lot of that comes from growing up with eight siblings in a really loving family, and just having fun hanging out with them. I just like seeing my friends enjoy something as much as I do, which is why I invite people to concerts, or have people come over to watch The Office every Thursday night.
I think it's the same type of joy that God feels when we find joy in something he's put on Earth for our enjoyment. I've always loved playing sports, music and just being out and enjoying nature. Those are things that He finds beautiful, and He's given them to us so we can appreciate them.
Sometimes, though, people don't get as much enjoyment out of things as I do, and somehow that makes me feel strange. I've been working on trying to be cool with that, because people I know won't always understand the hilarious videos, or understand why I serve an invisible God, or why I think The Office is the funniest show on television.
These are things that God has given to me, for me to appreciate, and I appreciate Him for that!

| We're always looking for simpler ways to do things. There was an older woman this morning in the Diag, holding a sign that carried a simple motto: "His Pain is Your Gain." As she stood there holding that sign, she sang "Jesus, Name Above All Names," for all who cared to listen. She didn't yell at anyone passing by, or rain down fire and brimstone on passers-by, condemning all those within earshot. She simply made herself available in a humble manner, while sharing our simple message.
Yes, Jesus preached in the streets and even called out Pharisees and other evil men, but Jesus a blameless man. These believers who try to reach sinning students by calling out judgement on them while they walk to class forget some key bits of Scripture relating to humility and judgement. Even Jesus told the woman caught in adultery, "Neither do I condemn you...go now, and sin no more." She knew what she did, and she knew who Jesus was and for what he stood. If Jesus wouldn't condemn this woman, how then can we believe that it's our job to cast judgement on people we've never met?
"Judge not, lest ye be judged."

| I'm BackWhat's up, fools?
So I bought a airline ticket today online...I think it's amazing how much you can do over the Internet these days (granted, much if it's to our detriment)...I mean, this year, I've ordered school books, CDs, electronics, novels, at a whole lot more. It's just amazing how much we have so easily at our disposal.
I spent the last couple days recording a couple operas with the orchestra down in Ann Arbor. What an experience...something I've never done before, and it teaches you a lot of things. The scariest thing for me is the level of consistency required for a project like that. We had to record about 70 minutes' worth of music in four days---now that might seem easy, but if you stop and think about it, it's pretty complicated. First off, it's a recording for a major record label, and it'll be distributed worldwide (it'll be on iTunes too), so it has to be something of quality. Second, it's an opera, so not only are you recording with an orchestra, but with several vocal soloists and a chorus. That means about 60-70 people performing on stage most of the time. If ONE of those 70 people makes a minor mistake, the take's no good, and it has to be done over again. You talk about pressure to play perfectly. It was a good experience, though, and the product's going to be something to be proud of, it's going to turn out very well.
I'll be around for another four weeks or so this summer, and there are still many of you I'd like to see before I leave for North Carolina, so if you would, drop me a comment and we can hang out soon! | | |
| Hey, I know it's late, but for anyone who's interested/willing, I'll be playing a solo recital tonight at 8 PM here in Ann Arbor. It should be pretty cool, and if any of you were there, it would be really awesome.
Here is the address in case anyone would like to Mapquest directions:
801 S. Forest Ave. Ann Arbor, MI 48104
Thanks!
