667269-R1-042-19A_edited not me, but my cats, especially Sara. She was out on one of her longer safaris this week; I was just  starting to look up shelter numbers when she put in an appearance Fri. night., but would not come in , full moon or catnip? She was right by the door and rolling in the grass and did not seem concerned about getting to her food or a cushy place to sleep. Bill tried to talk her in, and then tried to chase her. I got close enough to get a hand on her but she was ready to bite it off so I let her go. Saturday morning she waltzed in when she was good and ready! Now she's back out again, I wonder if she's mooching off someone that has a brand of food she prefers?

Not much social life for me. I could not find the union picnic Saturday noon due to a completely incorrect map, and then road construction after checking the address myself. I know I was right on top of the location but could not find an entrance. Then we had downpours and tornado warnings anyway. It was still quite ugly in the sky when my next event, an Obama platform meeting was scheduled. I actually started out for that, but when I got my car pointed north and saw black clouds and wind ahead, I turned around and settled for playing with my new "toy" a Eureka Uno to replace the dead Hoover. It's kind of gross that it has a clear compartment where I can see what I just sucked up.

So I finally had time for the Across the Universe, 2nd best movie my kid ever talked me into, the very best was V for Vendetta. If you liked Hair, I think this is even better, and just goes to show what amazing songwriters Lennon & McCartney were. Ted watched it with his friends earlier, glad they appreciate this kind of thing.

Today is just a lazy day which is quite needed. I may make bread, upload a recipe or two, read a little and of course, blog at Daily Kos. Looks like it will be an excellent day for bike riding, so I may  pick up cat food and oj that way.

smelling like a Girl Scout cookie

it is such a blessing  after a hot sticky bike ride home to shower with peppermint soap and peppermint conditioner. I just canceled out  some of my gas savings by getting a real commuter bag for the rear rack. It could have been my sister's birthday present, but it turns out she'd rather have a collapsible wire basket more suitable for groceries, so I ordered that today.

Peppermint is not perking me up enough to go for making a business plan yet. I can't see how to fit self-employment into a balanced life right now. Commuting and working takes me from 7:30 am to 6 or 6:30 pm, and I'm just grateful that includes my workout for now. Then it's shower, eat, do dishes, a few errands or chores, and usually just enough  time left for evening yoga and a little blogging with my fellow F.O.O. I'm starting to wonder how I got my school work done and got a decent grade... mostly by letting housework slide, I think,  and I'm still trying to get caught up on some of that. And it is nice to be able to do some political action on the weekends now if I feel like it. I may have to wait until my vacation days build up again and start using some of them for planning and marketing.

My currently reading is keeping me from missing Keith Olbermann too badly. I  have to say he's being smarter about getting enough R & R than I am lately. Some of us had hoped he'd be back on TV last night, but duh! we should have known  , All-Star game at Yankee Stadium tonight! I'm sure he'll be there, baseball nut that he is, and possibly back tomorrow. Can't wait to hear his 2 cents about Brett Favre's non-retirement, at least I hope they let him cover that instead of celebrity babies and affairs.

last time at my favorite "resort"

next time I come to Chicagoland, it will be new and improved. My sister and her husband just bought an new house only a year after finishing their magnificent kitchen remodel! The sensible reason is that it's on a large lot and looks like a good investment. A less reasonable factor is that it has more room for their 6 cars! And my sister quit her job, which had become oppressive, after landing a better one.

We were greeted with Chicago pizza Thurs. night, got a leftover slice heating for a midnight snack now. Hasn't been warm enough for the pool yet, but am enjoying the easy computer access here, getting my Daily Kos fix regularly. American style picnic yesterday: ribs, smoked turkey, potato salad, corn with Diane's gourmet touches of  tangy spinach salad and a gratin de courgettes. Ice cream pie was followed by old home videos of the boys circa 1996, funny stuff including some blackmail material. Then we blew off the traffic nightmare in favor of home style fireworks. The boys shot off bottle rockets and other small things in the cul de sac and we could also enjoy slightly larger, probably illegal, fireworks that the neighbors were blowing up

Today those of us not playing tennis went out to brunch, then Diane and I went hunting for clothes bargains with moderate success. We are both frustated at the number of tops that look like maternity clothes, but for a total of $26, I got cute red summer pjs and some cocoa brown crop pants.

Tonight my dad took us to a wonderful Serbian owned place though the menu is as much continental as Serbian. Great wines, had tiny glasses of a white with just that hint of fizz and a velvety aromatic red. Afterwards we headed to a nearby "Ribfest" , not to eat! but because Foghat was playing and it  didn't cost too much. They looked to be in good shape and sounded much like I remembered them from the '70s. Unfortuately the boys got bored quickly and since my nephew has his license , we allowed them to leave early with some misgivings. Half an hour later, we old farts had also had enough and hit the road. We were dismayed to pull in and not see his car. One frantic phone call and 5 min. later they pulled in. My nephew is a brown "blond" with poor navigational skills, but had enough memory of where he was to make it home by a scenic route.

No Keith O on TV - he's on vacation, too, and about time; he's been working hard this election season. And I brought his book along so I can still get his biting critiques of Bushies and even some Democrats.

High Five! It's Summer!

We used high fives to cast the circle for our Solstice celebration Saturday, a needed note of levity since some of our community members are going through tough times. I think the drumming was therapeutic for  all of us.

Summer has been a bit slow this year, finally getting some warm sunny days now. There are some  wildflowers blooming on my ride and the motherwort is tall  and sporting purple blossoms, but no black-eyed susans yet, seems about 2 weeks behind. meanwhile on my deck, the basil is fine, the cilantro looks sickly and my Moby Grape tomato has its first flower. I'm still trying to figure out what  I can let that tomato climb; it's about ready to go past the bamboo skewers I gave it for now.

I'm not listening to much at home now that my stereo is really on the blink-it's had issues reading discs for a while and now it won't at all. It will be tough to  replace with a comparable item on my budget.

Fun with the F.O.O.

F.O.O. is Friends of Olbermann, aren't you glad she didn't call it Friends of Keith? We are a small subset of Daily Kos, getting together online to discuss Countdown, and we've been chatty enough lately to eat into my free time  a bit.We are a smart alecky, educated bunch, discuss the issues of the show, go on strange tangents, and often the not so strange tangent of how some of us female members feel about Keith. We've gotten cohesive enough to decide to order "team' shirts now, so we'll soon be advertising our obsession. So that's how I've been goofing off and not thinking abut my career lately.

I'm making sure I get out of the house some, like last week's joint campaign office opening, but maybe this long lasting crush isn't all bad for my real social life. It may keep me from looking too hard for love which has certainly landed me in hot water before. For now, I'm getting witty conversation with the FOO, a sort of masculine energy in my life from Keith- sure I'd rather have someone I could give a real hug to, but at least he's always on time for dinner!

And Keith does interact with us a bit at Daily Kos as a whole, though he has never answered me directly. Just shows he cares about his fans. And apparently he cares enough to put up with a few assholes-this past week, many horrible, classless things were said about the late Tim Russert, who Keith considered a friend and mentor. He responded to a few of those to ask if they weren't embarrassed?and remind them that this was not the time to debate his journalistic skills, but then thanked the rest of us who were sending condolences and doing our best to discipline the jerks with hide ratings and appeals to the admins. Thankfully some of the worst original posts have now been deleted.
