Game of Goodbyes

School has been out for several weeks, and I haven't written in a long time, so I forced myself to write out a poem that I had lurking in my head for a couple of days. I'm no poet, so don't judge too harshly...

So many people that I once knew,
each like the stem of an idea web.
Yet now all severed, turning blue.
Fleeting fast, drawn by fate's ebb.
But to each idea itself a mind.
An idea to them myself I find.

Goodbye, goodbye my friends agone.
Always there, shadows in the dark
Real you became in the light of dawn.
Again you fade, never made your mark.
You were to me but a cameo.
To yourself the lead of the show.

The curtain rose and it fell.
There on that stage of life we met.
Maybe again we will down in hell.
On different boats asail we set.
Each day a game of goodbyes.
But up ahead always new blue skies.

- The Lost Cycle

Rick Wakeman has made some of the most inspiring, experimental music I've had the joy of hearing. After leaving Yes! he went onto create a solo career that would span upwards of sixty albums. His debut was "The Sixe Wives of Henry VIII" an amazing album led by Wakeman on Keyboard, and featuring some fellow band members from Yes! on certain songs. His next album, Journey to the Centre of the Earth is considered by some to be Rick Wakeman's finest albums. It was concept album based on Jules Verne's classic story of the same name. No Earthly Connection is one of Rick's most controversial albums, many people felt it was a little too out there, or that it wasn't capable of being commercially successful, but I absolutely love it.

[The Lost Cycle lyrics]

"The spaceman came from time unknown.
His knowledge way ahead of man.
To seek the cycle starting here.
The evolution plan.

Each day he watched the world evolve.
Eternal life for him to prove.
Watching man grow powerful.
Destroying life with every move.

The spaceman’s world a burning mass.
Destroyed by his own kind.
A sole survivor lost in space.
A growing world must find.

He saw the birth of hate and war.
Of death before our life was born.
With human fear the spaceman saw,
And changed from human form.

His voyage led back to Nemos’ world.
A peaceful start of human form.
He knew one day he’d leave again.
To witness other planets born.

He watches helpless, tearful,
as the world embittered grows.
Moving closer to the end of earth.
The spaceman only knows.

The spaceman only knows the truth.
He’s seen it from eternal youth.
Man will always die."

P.S.: I'm getting Elderscrolls IV Oblivion tomorrow for my Xbox360.

- Book T - Exodus

So, I'm up late tonight making a CD for my dad. He is going to a funeral tomorrow, and this CD is a memorial album of sorts, all of the songs contain some sort of nostalgia or personal significance to all the people who will be at the funeral tomorrow. Its pretty interesting to hear a story of someone's life through the music they enjoyed, but it really does speak volumes about their character. He and my dad went to dozens of NASCAR races every year since before I was born, they were both true fans, and they were true friends as well. I have to wonder how the music I enjoy would define me after I die.

I'm on the final stretch of Patlabor, and I'm still unconvinced of its entertainment value. There were a handful of really great episodes, but its in another lull, so I am a bit turned off by it. I will finish it though, since I'm so close anyway.

I guess the only significant personal thing I can say about myself right now, is that I got the job at shakes. I'll be working Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at Little Caesars still (all closing shifts), and I'll offer my free days to Shakes for them to do with what the want.

- Made Again

I have a mixed opinion of the band Marillion. They have a decent list of good songs, and a couple great songs, but they also have a lot of music that feels like that overproduced, cheesey 80's rock that nobody really likes but everybody has heard. This song, "Made Again" in their album, Brave (which has a few other good songs) is exceptional. I really like the message in the song.

"I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live
But I have never seen these streets so fresh
Washed with morning rain
Like the whole world has been made again
I have seen this face a thousand times
Every morning of my life
But I never saw these eyes so clear
Free of doubt and pain
Like the whole world has been made again
I have been here many times before
In a life I used to live ...
And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Is being made again by you
And it's all because you made me see
What is false and what is true
Like the inside and the outside of me
Has been made again by you
Like a bright new morning
Like a bright new day
I woke up from a deep sleep
I woke up from a bad dream
To a bright new morning
To a bright new world
The whole world has been made again"

Well, we went bowling this thursday, and it was great fun. Worked hard and convinced Alex to go with us. Sam Davies got lost after getting off work at Little Caesars and trying to find us. Here is a breakdown of the story:

-We arrive at one bowling (ridiculously out of the way for any of us) and then decide that since we can't get a lane, we'll go to College Lanes, however Sam has already departed for this bowling alley.

-We call Sam and tell him how to get to College Lanes from where he is

-Sam calls us back in a panick exclaiming "I'm stuck on the highway, I'm STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY!!!" To which we attempt to help him find his way off, but it just doesn't work with a phone.

-Sam calls and tells us that he's in a McDonalds parking lot down past College and Metcalf.

-I call Alex and tell her were are going to get Sam, she tells us that she is following Patrick and Rue, and she doesn't know where they are going.

-Stephen and I find Sam in the parking lot and get out to talk to him. Thats when my phone rings...

-Patrick is on the phone, and he questions me, "Where did you guys go? You swerved through many lanes and then turned out of sight." I respond, ".... were you..... following US?" Indeed he was.

-We go out to the corner and wait to find them and get them to us. Luckily Alex has working eyes so she made it to the bowling alley instead of following Patrick and making the event a CARAVAN of idiocy.

-We go back to the bowling alley and we all enjoy some good bowling.

All in all, it was a fun night, enjoy some pictures I took with my new camera.

Notes:

-Sam's nickname at Little Caesar's is Magellan because he can't find anything. (He proved his name true this thursday)
-JJ glows when he is drunk.
-Rue looks like a stalker in the first group picture.
