Christmas Day at the Fernandii

You know your kids are getting old when you wake up earlier than they do on Christmas morning and you are more excited about your presents than they are!

On the other hand, getting your OWN digital camera - not a hand-me-down, not something borrowed, not something that someone asks you to give to them pretty please soon after you buy it - well, I'd get up at 6 AM any day (but not today, Gerry wouldn't let me out the bedroom door until the kids came in at 7:30 to "wake" us up).

Canon PowerShot 850 IS with 4 G of memory, extra battery and a camera case - watch out, Maria Sharapova!

To IMSA and back home in a day

Two tankfuls of 93 octane gas - 66 dollars

1 Speeding ticket for going 80 in a 65 mph zone - 75 dollars

Chinese dinner with two hungry teens - 30 dollars

Watching (and listening) as Karissa hits a high note at her Choir Concert - PRICELESS!!!

College visits are starting .

Last week:

University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois

This week:

Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota
Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa

Visiting soon:
Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio
Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana

Probably visiting around Spring Break:
Pitzer College in Claremont, California
Claremont-McKenna College in Claremont, California

On the college list because her advisor forced her:
University of Illinois-Chicago

Definitely NOT on the college list:
University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign (too close and too big)
Washington University - St. Louis (too close and too snotty)

One of Karissa's must haves in a college:

Needs to be more than 5 hours away from Marion, Illinois

Silly girl!

Vampire Love Story

I cannot believe that I am addicted to the Twilight books. The first one especially was poorly edited (how many times can a guy be called beautiful or gorgeous, and how many times can one smirk or snicker, for crying out loud), but sad to say, I have read it 4 times and am on my way to reading books 2 and 3 for the second time each. Poor Karissa, "Twilight" was supposed to be a birthday present for her but I started reading it and now I'm not quite ready to let it go to her yet.

Is it true love that has struck a chord in me? I don't know. I just know that the book brought back memories of falling in love and has made me realize that I can date someone for 8 years, be married to him for 19, love him deeply and more maturely but STILL at times feel the same way I did when I was 18 and he was 19.

I guess Karissa will have to get her own copy.
