Matchstick Diary~

Have you seen this before?
Matchstick garden....basically it's a small kit that mocks a box of matches.
On each individual stick there are little seeds you can plant and either herbs or wildflowers grow.
Join me in this exciting journey as we watch these seeds grow.

So it all started on March 18, 2008

The journey starts as we plant the seeds.....

Here's an above view, can you see the grey sticks? The seeds are at the bottom of those sticks.
Now we wait patiently

March 29, 2008

A little bit of water a little bit of love and do you see.....
There's some growth in the right pot~

Here's a better view for you

April 1, 2008

I'm not sure if this pot is the one planted with the wildflower or the herb seed...i guess we'll find out soon. Isn't it amazing how from a little seed something can grow. It's so exciting~ Ganbare little sprout!!! I hope the left pot will start growing.....

~In loving memory of my Ojichan~

For those of you who don't know my grandpa (ojichan) passed away on 12/2/06.
I was able to be with my family for the viewing and funeral.
My ojichan was a man of few words, patient, disciplined, and wise.
He attended a prestigious university in Japan wanted to be a banker but was asked to serve in the war (WW II).
He had 2 kids as he served in WW II and was separated from his family toward the end of the war.
My Ojichan had to stay back in Manchuria while my grandma took their two young children back on the last boat to Japan. They were able to reunited at a Buddhist temple in Japan.
After the war my Ojichan through connections got a job at Kajima (one of the biggest and oldest cooperations in Japan) and worked hard to raise his family. He worked until he was in his late 60's.
Since May of 2006, he was hospitalized for repeated infections.
He suffered from a painful pressure ulcer but his mental state was always crystal clear.
The last person he spoke to was a nurse and according to her, ojichan was in good spirits that morning.
He passed alone in his room without a single sound (that's my ojichan's personality, to go without bothering anybody).
The memories I have of my ojichan are of him holding me when I was little and laughing.

The quality is not so good but here we are when I was about a year and a half.
As rumor has it, my ojichan was also a handsome stud when he was young....

Ojichan may you rest in peace and may you watch over your family.
We miss you lots and keep a hold of the loving memories we have of you.

We are officially OFF the drug!

IMG_2065

As of last week, Ninja has been off of insulin! His sugars have been within normal limits and he's been maintaing his weight! I'm so proud of my kitty. Hopefully, his diabetes was type 2 diabetes (diet controlled).

He loves to eat! Especially human food as you can see in this picture...

GOOD NEWS....

Mr. Ninja has been weaning well on his insulin! He only gets 1 unit every day now. Being on this new regimen for 3 days his sugar was 114 (normal is 100-250 for a kitty) so he's had stable sugars and if we keep this progress, the next step is to come off!!!!! So excited!

Please enjoy a recent picture of him.

This is Mr. Ninja in his new house. I bought it for him at Ikea and he loves hanging out in it... Imagine a little kitty tent, that's exactly what it is. Whenever we play he runs in there and hides, he thinks I can't catch him when he's in there.

stay in tune for the next update~!

MIA

Sorry I've been mia. Things have been crazy with work. I feel like a resident working these crazy hours. Honestly I have no idea how these residents work these crazy 24 -> 36hour shifts. It's so unhealthy for your body! I've survived my first two months of being off of orientation. I have to thank my attendings and fellow coworkers for being so nice and understanding.

Well if you all don't know, my beloved Ninja was diagnosed with diabetes back in July, right before his birthday. For all of you that said that Ninja was too FAT, he's too skinny now! I give him insulin shots twice a day and thank goodness his blood sugars have been stabilized now. Hopefully, we'll be able to get off of insulin soon.  Although Ninja has diabetes, he's happy and still has a good appetite so that makes me very happy. Here he is handsome as ever.

if you're bored give me a call and maybe we can catch dinner some time. I'll try to post more. Bye for now~
