the president of ecuador declared himself a dictator last night at 9:30pm. soon after the people took to the streets, demanding his resignation.
he dissolved the supreme court, with plans to name all new members in a week. also, he declared a state of emergency, which means that whatever he needs to do to "protect the people" he can do. gah.
now in the city EVERYONE is carrying flags, honking their car horns constantly, and putting up anti-government posters.

should be coming back to the states by the middle of next week. woot.
as for ecuador, they`re trying to overthrow their president, and the ex-president nicknamed "the crazy one" (and for good reason) has come back. he is trying to help oust the current president. yea. so there is going to be a huge strike on wednesday with protests and a bunch of streets in quito are going to be shut down.
to give you some idea of how protests go in ecuador, here is a little example: when the city of quito tried to make students in high school pay full price on buses they decided to protest in the streets. they threw rocks. the police launched gas bombs. the kids hijacked buses. HIGH SCHOOL KIDS.
now take that perspective, and apply it to the current situation: they are trying to overthrow the president. yea. exactly.
| you know how the most beautiful, amazing things happen to you when you least expect it? i feel like i am going to burst open... in a good way.

| i`m back in good ol quito, ecuador right now. the inca trail and machu pichu were absolutely AWESOME!!! hehehe. only a select few will understand that joke. but, seriously, it was a great experience. trekking for four days made our ascent to machu pichu so rewarding. i really learned a lot about myself and about other people in those few days. unfortunately i got sick the day we arrived in cuzco, peru, the starting point of all inca trail adventures, and got better the day after we ended the inca trail. boo. nonetheless, camping with your friends is a great time. i cant wait to do it again. |
