The name's Katy. I'm sixteen years young. I'm a Christian, but I promise I'm not a Bible thumper. I'm stuck living in Texas, but my heart will forever be in California. I'm going to be a junior at Plano East Senior High this coming year. I play clarinet in band, and I'm completely in love with it. My favorite part of the school year is marching season, known to you other kids as football season. Band knows where the action's at. I plan on getting a Bachelor's in photojournalism at university. I plan on someday becoming a missionary in Uganda while using photography to inform the world of exactly what the heck is going on there. Dance is my favorite sport ever. I like dancing even more than I like baseball, and believe me, that's saying something. I freaking love baseball. [San Francisco Giants, ftw!] I'm a hopeless bookworm. I blame it on my mom for getting me the first Harry Potter for Christmas when I was in the first grade. That's right: I've been an obsessive HP fangirl since before you even knew he existed. [I was reading PoA while they were filming SS/PS] My favorite genres of books are fantasy, sci-fi, and pretty much anything off the YA rack. As long as it's not a cliche sappy teen romance, anyway. My favorite movie of all time is El Laberinto del Fauno, or Pan's Labyrinth for those that don't know the Spanish title. I really like how the faerie and human worlds are one and the same for Ofelia and that we never find out for certain if it was just her imagination or if it was actually all real. I have the most amazing Santa hat ever - it's camouflage! hah. My favorite shoes are Converse All-Star low tops, but I'm all over a really good pair of heels, too. I enjoy making things match that you wouldn't normally think to match together. It usually ends up looking pretty decent, too.. As far as I can tell, anyway. I've only ever had one boyfriend, and even though we broke up at the start of sophomore year, our friendship is still intact. In fact, we're now proud to be each other's best friends, and I am so thankful for that every day of my life. I've seen too many friendships simply die because people dated each other and had a bad breakup. I feel so blessed that our friendship didn't die because we broke up; in fact, I think it only made us stronger, knowing that we don't work like at all as a couple.. And he's the most amazing best friend anyone could ever hope for. I love you, Clay Steeley! [Aka, Uncle Debbie the hobo that lives on the front lawn and in the shed]

Buuuuut he didn't like me... I think I scared him. xD

Breaking Dawn

was amazing, I'm not gonna lie.

And I have to say, I enjoyed reading it from Jake's perspective MUCH more than from Bella's.
She developed Jacob so much more than she did Bella, and she had four books to work on her.
But her transferred ability to her vampire-life is completely kick-butt! I loved the Volturi scene a lot.

I really, really would love to read the first 3/4 of New Moon from Jake's perspective.
Bella in NM really bothered me; she was at her most annoying and repetitive in it. :P
But Jake! I'd love to get inside his head through that time of really falling for Bella and
trying to figure out how to make Bella his, even though she was still madly in love with Edward.

But I'm so happy for Jake. Yay Nessie! :D Bahhhaha

So my official verdict on the Twilight series:

Far too purple for the vast majority of the series.
Bella wasn't near as developed as she really should've been.
There needed to be more plot and lots less moping about.
And Jacob is infinitesimally cooler than Edward is. <3
(Not to say that I don't still love Edward because I really do;
I've just decided that Jacob's really worth of character love.)

Oh, and shape-shifters > werewolves. :]

AHHHHHHHH!

So there's this awesome Wrock band I've found recently called Chasing Quaffles.
One of the members also has a VampRock band called Bella Rocks!, which is pretty good, too.

Anyway.

They posted a bulletin on MySpace this morning saying they found 5 leftover CD's from a show back in May, and they were gonna give them to the first 5 people who responded for free.

GUESS WHO'S GETTING A FREE CD. :D
It's the Chasing Quaffles CD, and it has a few Bella Rocks! songs tacked on at the end.

I'm excitedddddddd. *does the happy dance*

*nom, nom*

"Every person that walks into your life and makes a difference is carrying a piece of you that you haven't found yet. and you don't know it, but when they walk back out, they leave that piece for you. When you're young, dating isn't about finding a soul mate, it's about collecting the pieces of 'you' so you'll know enough about yourself to recognize your soul mate when he finally does come along.  It's about gathering enough pieces of the puzzle that is 'you' to know what the picture will look like in the end, and until then, to be in love is to lose yourself in the need to please another, and no matter how much you try to act just right, pretending is still pretending."

I saw this on an LJ community I frequent called todayirealized.
Tonight (or rather, this morning >__>), I don't think I can properly respond to this.

But I'd like you to chew on that for now, much as I'll be doing before bed.
(Hence the nomming in the title. If you didn't catch that, leave. Now. Srsly.)

Twilight rant..

I was looking through pottersues on LJ today,
and there was one truly awful fanfic featured in the past week.
The author had obviously taken a Twilight scene,
changed it to Harry Potter characters,
and gave absolutely no thought to grammar and punctuation.
It was a hideous fic in and of itself, but I would've liked it less
if it hadn't been for the comments people left about it.

People mentioned that it was a blatant Twilight ripoff...
And then proceeded to bash Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight series.

WHAT. THE. CRAP.

Nobody even came up with decent arguments for why they hate it, either.
If they could fully explain the reason for their hate, I wouldn't mind.. As much...

Some quotes from people's comments, and my personal thoughts:

"Twilight is a horrible book, how bad would you have to be to steal scenes from it?"

See, that's what I mean! Why is it horrible? EXPLAIN YOUR HATE! Gah..

-"D: Gawd, why must all the fangirls be obsessed with it?
-If it keeps them away from slaughtering the /good/ books, I don't really mind.
-No, it just makes them bring stupid Twilight cliches back to their other fandoms."

Twilight is good! Meyer's writing style is unique, interesting, and good. The way she writes works very well for Twilight. Also, can somebody explain to me how a completely non-traditional freakin vegetarian vampire and a totally normal high school girl falling in love, which makes said high school girl actually want to become a bloodthirsty fiend, even though she's also in love with the Native American werewolf in the next city over - oh, and there's the fact that the high school girl's brain apparently won't let her feel pain - can be called cliche at all.

Honestly....

"I swear, Twilight made me laugh so loud. Sexxy vampyrs = INSTANT FAIL."

There's a perfectly legitimate reason for why Meyer's vamps are all crazy hot - they're physically attractive to the human eye, and humans will be less likely to pay any actual attention to what's going on because they're too busy oggling at the uberhotness. And don't pretend you wouldn't do the same if Twilight were true! It's a simple statement of fact that that's how the human mind works, and Meyer's vampires exploit that fact extremely well.

"Vampires shouldn't sparkle in the sunlight. They should either lose their powers, turn to dust/ash/stone, or not care. But come on? Sparkles?"

This is the comment that really pissed me off. Why aren't vampires allowed to sparkle? Yeah, it's unconventional, but so is absolutely everything else about Twilight. It's the recurring theme throughout the books, to be unconventional. Heck, Bella herself calls her relationship with Edward unconventional! Meyer is fully aware of the fact that her vamps are totally not traditional. But who cares? All she did was take a generic monster template and built on it in a new way. Why shouldn't there be vegetarian vampires? If vampires actually existed, I know I'd be hoping for as many vegans as possible. And Meyer's clear-cut about all the vamp myths, too. Take the sparkling for example again: They sparkle in sunlight, therefore they don't go in sunlight, which makes people think they CAN'T be in the sunlight. This, of course, is basic human reasoning. Every single person on the face of the planet is guilty of drawing what they think is a concrete conclusion from what they think is a concrete fact - and then it turns out the 'fact' was completely false, and so you really have nothing to base your conclusion on, rendering it incorrect. But since nobody bothers to try and figure out the actual fact, everybody sits on their butt and accepts the conclusion at face value.

... I think I've got all of my venting done now.
I just can't stand people who hate decent writing for absolutely no reason.
If you don't like the writing or plot itself, that's totally fine by me.
If you just don't like how they reinvented a basic concept...
Well, base your opinion on how well it's actually written.

Jeez.

*sigh*... Okay, really done now.
