| Busy beeOne ridiculous brief one oral argument one trial three cases to organize at LAF stand between me and thanksgiving. But even then I will be writing/studying Outlines. I hate this season of law school. I'm definitely not as nervous as last year but this time of year is so fast paced and there's no time for anything, really--I will be SO happy at 9:30pm on Dec 17th.
Meanwhile, we tried to have a LALSA field trip yesterday. Which ended up being cancelled because people vote to do something then don't show up. seriously I enjoyed the time I spent w/friends but we all had things we could have been doing...I guess it's slightly annoying...but I remember that I was a 1L too and terrified of exams so I can't be too bitchy.
that's really all that's going on at this point in time. really really sad. lol

| speeding up...The semester is almost up. this week I'm working on my brief and will have that done w/just a few edits here and there before it's due b/c I need to start studying for my two finals--I have three but a whole week between my second and third so I will put off immigration until after IBT. After one paper, an oral argument, finishing an externship, a trail and three exams I will be HALF WAY DONE WITH LAW SCHOOL!! Thank God.
And I get to go home this month which I'm very excited about mainly because E will be coming with me!! :) And after finals there will be a trip to Valpo (hopefully) I love that little place!
Today Women's Law Society has a bake sale to help address the salary inequalities between male and females. On average women are .77 cents to a man's dollar (Hispanic women are paid on ave .54 cents!!). So we have tons of baked goods and the men are paying $1.00 and women pay .75 cents. The proceeds go to WAGE (women getting even). I'm glad that we're doing something and starting to get more active. With things that interest people.
Oh my classes for next sem are lame. I'm SO pissed that most of my classes were closed.
| Change we can believe in...I'll admit it took me a while to warm over to Obama. Not because of him but the zealousness of the supporters made me weary. Then I realized, I've always admired Kennedy not for his political savvy or foreign policy experience but because of his obvious ability to inspire the people and make them hope for better and then DO for something better. Obviously I was not alive at that time but it's evident with what he did--I don't think anyone can deny his capability to get people involved.
I've said it a million times that that is what was pulling me towards Obama (aside the fact that he was a Dem). I'm so happy he won! So happy he won by so much! and INDIANA WENT BLUE!!!! we haven't gone blue since Johnson! Seriously, if you still don't think this is what the people want then I don't know what to tell you.
His speech was incredible--it won't happen overnight and there will be delays but ultimately I do think we will get the change we seek--for those people that never quite understood what "change" well I think you're being obtuse.
I'm excited to experience the changes coming in Immigration, the economy, foreign policy and relationship, job creation, energy, stem cell, equal salaries, healthcare, etc.
And I'm also glad some things won't change: mainly my reproductive rights, all the rights we currently have (and believe me when I say those props that passed denying Gays to marry will make it to the USSC and I can only imagine they will be overturned!).
McCain's speech was classy and strong. He fought hard and honestly years ago I really liked him--I may have even considered voting for him. So I'm excited that the Old McCain will come back--maybe present some more awesome immigration legislation. I really think choosing Palin was just what did him in...and no I'm not looking for a scapegoat, how many people had to legitimately say they were scared of her/she had no possibility of being a leader before the supporters took it seriously?
Whatever, I hope her 15 mins will be up soon though I know better.
REGARDLESS the next 4 (8) years will be exactly what we need.
AND a shoutout to the system in the U.S. because the system works. like it always does.
| more proofthis was in an article about Obama's polling place (which is an elementary school in Chicago):
"If I saw him, it would be like getting a year's worth of candy, better than Halloween -- way better," student Robert Upton said. "It's like 10 Halloweens."
I am a pessimist, I get annoyed easily and am frustrated and angry about lots of things...BUT I believe that his ability to inspire is incredible and what we need.
FOUR more days!!

| Patriotic DutyMy absentee ballot came in...I'm so stoked. Now normally I would just carefully "make a mark, heavy and dark" on the democratic oval BUT I really want to mark Obama's name, it'll feel like I'm really voting for him. BUT this is suppose to be a secret so we'll see what I do, lol. AND can I just say the extra things Hoosiers get to vote on are so BORING. Cali gets prop 8, IL gets a con con, and we get ...something really random.
And all the judges asking to be retained are men. interesting.
So I have to get that shit sent in asap. This will probably be the last time I vote in Indiana :(
Anyway, it's time for my endorsement. now I know that early on in this election way long ago I made the same commentaries that many are doing now about Obama. But ultimately I knew I would be voting for him. At first I was concerned with how easily it seemed that his followers followed him. They really did seem to treat him as "the one." But I feel the negative spin I (and others) put on that was pessimism. Sadly, the short time I've been on earth and been aware enough about politics, things have become more and more negative. I'm a bit pessimistic when it comes to politics. And I didn't think Obama was enough even w/all the followers. But that's the thing. HE is what the PEOPLE want...he is what we need. We need someone educated and smart enough to understand the power of people. To have an education backed in analytical thinking. To have a willingness to discuss rather than push. To surround himself with intelligent people who aren't willing to be Yes wo/men. Someone who rouses the people and makes them want to do better...why do we not want that?!
And people talk about lack of experience, but just because he didn't sit in a committee for years doesn't mean he's not intelligent enough to have this job. He is intelligent enough to know that he doesn't know everything--that's why he chose Biden. And I'm confident that he will choose people that are experienced and intelligent enough to give him sound advice. It's not like he was a C- student at Yale...amirite
He is what people, real people are thirsty for. You have to respect how he is able to reach out and affect people.
Look at his endorsements. The civil rights leaders, republican officials, the people who live paycheck to paycheck. They are thirsty for him. So I have to say he is what democracy is calling for.
And I need to talk about how the default socialism argument always comes into play. For those that haven't taken Con Law let me give you a hint: CHECKS AND MOTHEFRUCKING BALANCES!!! that is how the system works and it works. It's worked for years. Obama will not come in and then take your land to give to the gov't. this isn't Cuba. This is the United States, founded on principles that are hard to shake. If they didn't truly break after 9/11 they aren't going to break now. Those that cry that socialism and a lack of freedom is not far after an Obama administration obviously has little faith in this system and that is really too bad because usually they are the ones that cry patriotism the most.
NOW why will I not vote for McCain?
let me count the ways.
First if, God forbids, he dies I do not want the simpleton as president. no fucking way. Second, the McCain that was Senator years ago was not so bad...he's immigration plan was pretty f-ing good. He stood up against injustices...but I don't see that anymore. Now I see someone desperate to get that one thing he's been clamoring for...it's kind of sad. Third, he's volatile and disrespectful. he called his wife a cunt. a CUNT for fuck sakes!! God knows how he treats her in private. Fourth, when he was first running for president there were rumors about his adopted daughter and how she was really black (ohnoes!). He stated that there was a special place in hell for those people. and now? He fucking panders to them. I don't have children. But I am pretty confident that if someone would try to harm them and make them cry...I would not befriend those people for my benefit. What kind of integrity and loyalty is that?! for your children? Fifth, McCain has done nothing to stop the discrimination that has run rampant in his party. Yes, maybe he didn't hear the calls for terrorists at his rally. Or maybe he didn't respond quite well to the woman accusing him Obama as being an "arab". But he COULD have responded to it afterwards...but he's done nothing! Sixth, his choice for Palin as VP shows he is NOT country first, rather McCain presidency first. She is not a leader, she is a simple, selfish, uneducated zealot. How full of yourself do you have to be to not "blink" when asked to be second in command of the most powerful country in the nation when you have five children including a special needs newborn? HOW FULL OF YOURSELF? Her entire part in this presidency has taken any respect I had for McCain.
Aside from McCain I am disgusted by the GOP's actions of direct and indirect racism. The food stamp certificate, the mumblings of terrorism from the actual party and then you have the supporters who call him a "half-breed muslin(sic)" or Socialest (sic) or an A-rab, or call for his death.
I have not seen this type of behavior from the democrats. am I wrong? Has there been calls to kill McCain at Obama rallies? It's just disgusting and the McCain camp does try to fix it.
I think that speaks volumes...and remember Obama is not "arab" he's a good family man b/c they can't go together. ok.
Anyway, in an Obama administration my reproductive rights will be protected; there will be an emphasis on equality, there will be a new school of thought attempting to fix this shit hole of a war we're in, the economy will begin to change as new policies are implemented, and there will have to be some type of immigration reform that under a democratic president will be more merciful and kind than one under a racist GOP. yes, I use that word--LOOK at the shit they are doing!!
My ballot goes in the mail today. And I'm confident Indiana will go to Obama. At least my vote will...
