a case study from a clinical psychology standpoint | conduct disorder, physical aggression, emotion dysregulation and the etiology and expression of ptsd
my thoughts later and what approach or framework should i tackle this situation: clinical psychology, biblical counseling or an integrative approach.
i love everything about california and chung is a wonderful host. today, right after breakfast we took a journey to huntington city beach and i fell in love immediately. the wind gently blowing across my face and the clear blue pacific water inviting me to a mid-morning swim with the dolphins and most importantly, i love the ethnic diversity. my senses have been flooded and responded with the appropriate level of glee and excitement.
every minute i'm here, i want come here and finish up my ph.d program here at ucla with constance hammen. once, i have my ph.d in my hand, the next step is to get married and settle here. by the way, i think cali korean girls are overrated. so, the plan is bring my girlfriend.wife from the east coast and settle here.
5 great things about california:
1. the food: had mexican, korean, and much more to come this weekend. (had wendys for dinner with joshua, but doesn't make this list.
2. california beaches and the nice looking piers.
3. meeting up with joshua song and spending some time with song sahmonim
4. chung, what a great catch. sharon you're blessed.
5. k-town
5 bad things about california: none but i would like to share the following with you
1. had a shrimp burrito at some authentic mexican joint at 11 pm and it was freaking delicious but i woke up at 3 am needing to poop it out.
2. delta airlines lost my luggage temporarily and i need to pick it up at midnight at a designated location.
3. told to find a girlfriend in california
4. being lied to that california girls are the fo shizzle.
[an overdue update : life as a psychologist . researcher] | picture above . my old developmental lab and yes i happen to be the only male member. males are non-existent in developmental psychology unfortunately. yes i know what you're thinking, oh jimmy tsk tsk but you just committed a mistake.error, cognitively speaking. that mistake or error is a mental operation called a heuristic - mental shortcuts. it allows us to make a variety of judgments quickly and efficiently yet flawed.
lately [well perhaps this past year in general] i've been really busy and unavailable [unintentional] with lab responsibilities but i'm enjoying every minute of it. truly a blessing in disguise to breathe and fart psychology while learning : clinical assessments, methodology, psychosocial risks, bio-behavioral and the list goes on
so let me backtrack a bit. i'm no longer a regular member although i attained honorary status in dr hongling xie's lab [picture above]. i very much miss the people who work there and our hilarious yet nerdy conversations on psychology of the female species and helplessly cornered into conversations ranging from relationships.marriage to wedding dresses. i miss that lab so much i sneak into the lab time to time. uhm yeah moving along, i'm still collaborating with dr. robert weisberg in my studies on creativity. actually i'm in publication phase now and if everything goes accordingly by next year, its going to be featured in the creativity journal. let me tell you, academic writing is not easy. however robert "bob" being the ridiculously smart individual he is, has helped me tremendously through this process.
and now to the present: i joined dr. lauren alloy's affective and mood disorder lab in june and currently a non-degree ph.d student in the psychology department. lauren is probably second to martin seligman (her graduate advisor) in terms of prestige and she never stops working: a major workaholic i kid you not. her office is overflowing with journal articles and papers everywhere. its really disturbing and the crazy thing is she knows where everything is. if you thought her office was bad, our lab occupies half of the seventh floor. we have drawers upon drawers filled with data interviews since 1990. and because we have tons of sensitive information.data our lab is protected by brinks alarm system ! and finally the 12+ graduate students [10 of them are girls: here we go again] in my lab are simply awesome. and if you're curious we have a computer lab inside our lab.
in sum, this upcoming year is going to be crazy with the new grant coming in. bye bye social life. before i say bye to my nonexistent social life, hello los angeles and chung yang in september !
