Kamakiriad
By Donald Fagen
Snowbound

I was looking around at various websites the other day, and I discovered that there really does appear to be a new Donald Fagen album coming out in the near future (I have heard March and even as early as January of this the year of 2006). I have also heard that the title of this album is going to be "Morph the Cat." Some have also claimed to know the names of the tracks on the album. A choice few are "Brite Nightgown," "The Great Pagoda of Fun" and "Security Joan." Those titles do sound like this album may be very interesting indeed. This will be his first solo album since Kamakiriad. I can only hope that it will be as amazing. I have a feeling that I will not be let down. This guy is just freaking amazing. So keep your eyes open for that sucker, it is going to be great stuff.

I finally managed to get my hands on a Kino album from a seller at Amazon.com. It is a freaking good album, and I figured that it would be so. It is called "Istoria Etova Mira" (History of This World) and it is essentially a greatest hits album. I had heard several of the songs before at the wonderful language lab, but one of them on there I had not heard before is simply addicting. It is called "Videli Noch" (We saw night) and the chorus goes "Videli noch i guliali vsyo noch do utra" (We saw night and we strolled all night until morning). It is catchy as heck. The rest of the album is amazing too. The dude who wrote all of the stuff for the band was a pimp. Of course, the government did not support rock musicians because it did not fit in with the whole concept of socialist realism. So all of Kino's albums were copied and handed around the country free of charge while, Viktor Tsoi, the dude who wrote all of the songs and basically led the band, had to keep his job working in a boiler room in some old apartment even though his band was the biggest thing in all of Russia at the time. It is a shame that he died in a car accident in 1990 while he was only 28 years old. It is a very nice change of pace from the majority of the junky commercial stuff that was coming out over here in America during the late 80's and early 90's. Of course, I am not to the point where I can understand the all of the lyrics in all of the songs, but I know more than enough to know that this stuff was also not exactly pro-status quo in CCCP at the time. But then again, as I mentioned before, rock was basically considered by the authorities to be something that good Soviet citizens should not be practicing. All things considered, in my honest opinion, this is some really exceptionally good stuff.

This break has been very refreshing. It is oh so very nice to not have to read 300 or so pages of stuff every week. I am hoping that this upcoming semester will not be as bad. I think it is going to be a fun time from here on out. I can space stuff out enough so that I can concentrate on the last few things that I need to finish, and then it is "Do svidanie, universitet Oklakhomi!" Oh what a wonderful day that will be, what a glorious time to be free. OU has been a blast, but now that I get closer to finishing off, I have decided that I will be quite ready to move on.

I hope that everyone is doing well. Take it easy. Do svidanie! And oh yeah, about the song, geez I really wish I were snowbound... U nas ujasnaya pagoda zdyes v Tekhasa!

I am really getting used to this whole Christmas Break (or Holiday Break, or Winter Break, or whatever the dang you want to call it) thing.  I can feel my eyes relaxing after each day that they do not have to read 100 pages of a book.  That being said, because of the large amounts of time that I have spent hunting during the break, my sleeping schedule will have to get back on track.  I am going to be like at 10:30 these days...  and perhaps the most shocking aspect of this is  that to me that seems reasonable enough since I have to get up at like 5:45 in the morning when we go hunting.  Back in my younger days nothing would justify going to bed at 10:30 as far as I was concerned.  But then again, I was much more stupid back then than I am right now.  I may not have improved much beyond stupidity in some areas (Although I like to think that I have at least made some sort of progress in them all...  ), but I have learned one thing for certain: sleep is an excellent thing.  And with that being said, It is time for me to go to sleep...  before 10:30...  and I am going to enjoy every moment of it.

I hope that everyone is having a great break.  Take it easy.

I just randomly decided to check the student services website, and what did I see?  My grades for the semester, of course!  And after two semesters with four A's and a B each, this semester is finally all A's once again.  Five of them to be exact.  So I guess it turns out that the work was all worth it in the end.  It is a nice feeling indeed.

Something is not quite right with my mind today.  I am not exactly sure what it is.  Maybe I am finally going crazy or something like that.  Maybe I just need to sleep.  Maybe its the weather.  Who knows...  All I know is something tells me I am going to sleep well tonight and I am not going to want to get up when it is time to go to class.  And this is the last Thursday that I have to go to regular classes, so one would assume that I would be able to get myself motivated for this Thursday if not for any other Thursday during the year.  Oh well, two more days and then it is finally the weekend.

And one other thing.  Two exams down, two more to go.  And I guess another thing...  This Russian radio station still appears to be the most random station in the world as far as I am concerned...  Bon Jovi?  Come on now, I am sure that there is plenty of Russian music better than Bon Jovi.  On top of that, it is new Bon Jovi and everybody knows that new Bon Jovi is horrible when compared to 80's Bon Jovi.  So if you feel obligated to play Bon Jovi, please do us all a favor and play the Bon Jovi from the 80's.  Oh well, tomorrow is Thursday and everyone really ought to know what that means...  "Wild Country" on радио Самара Максимум!

It would make me so very happy if class were cancelled when I wake up tomorrow morning.  Oh well, in less than a week from this moment, I will be back home and it will already be Christmas Break.  Take it easy everyone.  До свидания!

Make Believe

Beverly Hills (Geez, Russians must really dig this song. This is the second time today that I have heard it on Samara radio)

I discovered this Russian radio station today, and I must say that it is quite possibly the most random thing that I have ever seen or heard in my life.  First of all, when I first got that sucker fired up, it was the beginning of a Brooks and Dunn song.  So here I am, thinking that even though I am on the Самара радио site, there must be some sort of mistake in the radio feed that I was getting.  Well, it was no mistake.  The DJ gal started talking and it was definitly in Russian.  I do not think that I have ever been so confused in my life.  It was simply surreal.  But after several more country songs, they played a little ad telling me that on каждый четверг (every Thursday) there is a little program called "Wild Country."  I just got lucky enough to be listening to it while it was on.  Как интересно!  And, by the way, they knew some good country songs to play.  None of that modern day Nashville garbage.  Some good Brooks and Dunn and George Strait.  It is nice to know that whenever it is that I eventually find myself in Russia I will not be the only person there who appreciates good country music.

So I have been listening to it more, and when it is just on regular radio time, its playlist is so random.  Several Russian songs, some Weezer, some obscure 80's hair metal and then even a little Papa Roach and something that sounded like some 60's acid rock.  It is quite interesting to say the least.  And I must say, the news dudes on that sucker have ridiculous prowess.  I just thought that Spanish news people talked with great haste.  These suckers obviously do not need to breathe or anything like that.  They don't waste no time at all.  And oh yeah, do they ever have commercials...  and they are also quite interesting indeed...  Yeah, the Russian girl singing right now sounds quite a bit like Shakira...  interesting...

Well, I still have Russian tomorrow morning, so I need to go to bed.  Take it easy everyone.  Do svidanie!
