Trip photos from Hong Kong Now that it has been over a month since the Hong Kong trip we took in December, I finally decided to make an effort to post photos. :) Why did we go to Hong Kong? It was definitely not my first choice of vacations since I really wanted to go to Japan, but how can you pass up and family trip and a wedding? David & I went with his mom and sister to attend David's second cousin's wedding.
Here we are at the Tsim Sha Tsui habor area. Check out the smog!
What else to do in Hong Kong but eat and document it?
The second day (Monday) was the wedding. It was at the famous Peninsula Hotel. I am not really sure why it is famous, but even my dad knew which hotel it was at! To note -- we did not stay at the $400 USD a night hotel, but the $200 USD night YMCA hotel next door.
We were there early for family pictures and a cocktail hour. Below is NOT a wedding cake. This is a FAKE CAKE!! This is the first fake cake I have ever seen at a wedding. The idea seems brilliant. Instead, they served "Chinese Petite Fours" in the 12 course dinner. This consisted of... (not cakes) almond cookies, red bean paste pastries.
Unfortunately I am no pictures of the meal because.. well.. the inside felt a little too elegant for me to take pictures. We didn't even serve ourselves because as soon as each dish came out, it went to a table where servers were seperating the courses for us. It just was not one of those "let's take photos" type of places. Also, we were at the head table so...
The beautiful bride and groom! I believe we counted the groom to have 2 outfits and the bride to have 4 outfits.
Each one of us opened the wedding gift from the bride and groom... a really big swarovski crystal pendant. It is just a little too big for us to wear without getting mobed.
More skyline, more smog.
We took a tour to a temple.
And a fishing village. On the bridge you can see all the cables and wires going to the boats (where they work). Do you think they are for internet???
A funny sign we saw. You can't read it, but the Dog picture says "Failure to Clean up your dog feeces"
In front of Avenue of the Stars. Can you guess who the prints are of? More fishing village pics... we saw a BIG RAT inside one of the bottom of the boats... Would you like to shop for Squid?
We went to Lantau Island to see the Big Buddha statue.
Then, up the Victoria Peak.
Our YMCA hotel...
On a free tourist boat ride.. The last authentic Duk Ling.
Some street scenes.
Food on the Jumbo Floating Restaurant Boat (it is actually on steel bars connected to the ground but you have to take a ferry to the restaurant.
