  • I have no idea how I did this.

I feel SO good.  Wow.  Who knew riding your bike 60 miles would feel so great!

Mom, Dad, Brian and I started in Jefferson City at about 8am and ended in Ames at about 5.  My legs didn't start hurting (just a little) until after we stopped (thank goodness).  But even then, as long as we kept walking, I was fine.

They say it's the flattest and shortest day of the week----holy crap.  Certainly not flat.  The hills weren't huge in size, but you would have a good sized one first, then shorter ones after, but the larger ones made the smaller ones just as bad.  And then there was the hill that I affectionately call the "Hill to Hades".  Mom, Dad, and Bryan all made it up, but my legs decided they didn't want to move anymore when I was a quarter of a mile away from the top.  Darn legs.

All in all, it was a fantastic trip, and I'm definitely doing it again next year---on a new set of wheels.  I've found my "sport" since we decided I was definitely a biker and not a runner during the trip, and any good athlete (HA!) needs good equipment.  Specifically, in this case, a bike that switches gears and doesn't have a rock for a seat.  :)

This may be the ticket to helping me lose weight too (so much for the 20 pound goal).  I wasn't fond of walking or running, but I love biking.

So, yay, had a great day on Tuesday, can't wait to do it again.

  • Go figure.  One of the few times I actually have something to say on here, the internet is down once again.  :)  The family I'm living with had water in their basement once again, thus leaving everything in the basement unplugged (including the wireless router).  I do feel bad though--it seems like I've brought them bad luck in terms of flooding this summer.

Dad and I went out to eat on Tuesday.  We had a wonderful time and wonderful talks including one about alcohol.  He confessed that mom and him have had alcohol, typically when they go out for a nice dinner.  :)  Oh dad.  He ended that conversation with an assurance that he knows I'll be responsible with alcohol.

One of the other topics that came up was RAGRAII.  Apparently the family had committed to one day, and I decided that I would give it a try as well.  People at work thought that was pretty funny considering I haven't had much training and can't wait to see me (harass me) the day after.  I was looking forward to it as well, so I can tell everyone just how pitifully out of shape I am in (sarcasm).  As of Saturday, half my family bailed, so now I'm the slow one.  I'm ok with that though, but I've gotten plenty of snide comments from my summer parents.  Starting to really get a little bit ticked....I'm receiving no encouragement, just teasing and "oh, you're so dead.....you're going to hurt!"  I mean, really people, there is a stopping point.  I can handle the teasing for a little while, because it's true, I will hurt.  But seriously, we do not need a 2 hour conversation about how many ice packs I'm going to need afterwards.  Just to spite them, I don't want their help or ice packs.

We took possession of our new house in Newton on friday!!  We went to paint and lo and behold, the guy we bought it from is still living there.  His dirty clothes were everywhere, the place was trashed.  Oh, and the guy's on vacation.  Needless to say, my mom was furious.  Our realtors (the guy's and ours) both checked the house (supposedly) and cleared it for closing.  There is no way that house is inhabitable ---his stuff is everywhere!  It's like they got their money and took off, leaving us with the problem.  We'll see who's problem it is....we're going to charge them $100 a day until the guy moves out.

Considering I need my rest before we go out, I might hit the hay early.  You'll hear from me on Wednesday!!

  • Wow, I have been a member of xanga for 1231 days!

This weekend was so great!  I headed up to Grandview Friday afternoon and met up with my family.  We played much frisbee, swam in the lake, a bit of frisbee 500, some more frisbee, then smores around the campfire.  :)  I received several comments from family about how I'm a different person when I play.  Shane said it best though: "A frisbee is the only thing Danielle will run after."  lol!

Saturday was the actual reunion.  People I have never seen (my mom's cousins and aunts and uncles) showed up, ate lunch, then left.  What kind of sense does that make?  Drive for a few hours, stay for 2, then leave.  My family (my cousins and aunts and uncles) played several games of volleyball, then a few of us threw a frisbee around some more, even in the rain.  That afternoon, we had Allison's bridal shower, then headed back to Grandma's house where we ate more smores and hot dogs.  Since it's Grandview and there's nothing to do, we decided to hold our own Olympics.  Our team (the Kokomo's) lost terribly bad, but we had a blast.  (We rocked the "intelligence" part though-woot!!)

Sunday, we went to Grandma's church and dad sang.  My goodness, I forgot how gorgeous his voice is!  I miss hearing him sing every sunday morning.  :(  I was absolutely exhausted for the weekend, and I passed out the entire service and when we got home.  I struggled on the way back to Des Moines staying awake, but I made it.

Can't say I escaped any injuries on my amazing weekend though...  I jammed my toes playing frisbee (didn't quite get my foot all the way forward, and stepped on the top of my toes), bruised some ribs, and have 40 some bug bites (I counted 40, but I think I forgot a few...it's hard to get all of them).  Escaped getting a sunburn though!!  yay!

I'm still quite a bit drowsy though, so I think I'll call it an early night again, just to see if I can catch up a bit on my sleep.

  • This was written in 3 different parts, 3 different times of the day.  :)
    ~*~*~*~*~
    Lunch Break:
I've had the Ritzman's house to myself for the past week.  And before that, I had it to myself for nearly a week as well.  Jeff and Jill just got home last night, and it's going to weird sharing it with them again.  lol, as if it's my house...

I've been doing a lot of thinking, a lot of reading, and a lot of hanging out in their absence (it's nice to have silence once in a while).  Not a lot of sleeping however.  And I am sooo tired.  Ugh.

I realized yesterday at work that I probably need to find a doctor in the Des Moines area, especially a lady doctor.  It doesn't make much sense to drive 3 hours if I ever have a problem.  The big question is how does one find a good, reliable, and preferably woman doctor?
    ~*~*~*~*~
    After work:
I attempted to go swimming suit shopping yesterday, and I got so frustrated that I had to leave.  Shopping when frustrated is never a good idea.  Needless to say, I didn't have much luck, and so I've probably got to try again tomorrow, for I need one this weekend for our family reunion.  ~sigh~  Not looking forward to this at all.

    After Barnes and Noble group
OH MY GOODNESS!!  I had an hour before Scheele's closed, and I thought I should at least look around, see if there's any potential there.  I prayed while walking in, God, keep me from being frustrated!  Help me find a cheap suit that is modest so I can honor you in that way!  Keep me patient, please!

When I went in, the selection was the smallest that I had seen yet.  However, I picked up a few, tried them on, and FOUND ONE!!!  Oh, I can't tell you how excited I am about this!  It's modest, the cheapest suit I've seen yet, and looks really nice!  Ugh, I'm so excited now for this weekend!  Yes!!!

  • You know, you guys are all dropping the ball on this blogging thing.  I'm the only one that has (out of my friends) in the past 10 DAYS.  Come on.  I'm getting lonely here.

I am officially old as crap.  I'm ready to go to bed at 8.  (There.  You happy, Victor?)  I'm trying to stay up later though...pushing 9, so I'll probably head upstairs after this blog.  ~yawn~

I found one of my old blog sites on blogger.  The title?  "Whoa, I'm Wacko!"  Gosh, was I really that annoying in high school? And it was from my junior and senior year, for pete's sake!  Ugh, I'm so glad I've matured (by leaps and bounds, apparently) since then...  I'm getting irritated just reading it; I can't imagine having to live with me.  It's definitely getting deleted, along with my "E-Story" blog where I wrote incredibly psychotic stories.  And to think, I thought I was hilarious...  I think I need to send my mom and dad a huge thank you for not throwing a pillow over my face while I was sleeping.

I have a secret blog.  2 actually.  And I dare you to find them.
